Before debut: years of training without a guaranteed ending

Miyeon’s road to debut was not a straight line. She trained at YG Entertainment for several years during the period when the company was building the team that became BLACKPINK, but she left before that group debuted. The important part is not the fan-fiction version of “what if.” It is that she had already spent years learning vocal recording, choreography, evaluation culture, and the emotional endurance required when a debut keeps moving farther away.

After leaving YG, she continued studying music and prepared through other routes before joining Cube Entertainment. By the time Cube introduced her as a member of the team then styled as (G)I-DLE, she was not a beginner discovering whether she could survive an idol schedule. She was a trained vocalist finally getting the stage that years of uncertainty had delayed.

2018–2020: a debut group that sounded self-authored

Miyeon debuted with i-dle on May 2, 2018 through “LATATA.” The group immediately separated itself from the standard rookie assembly line because Soyeon’s writing and production gave the members distinct dramatic jobs. 2021–2024: surviving the fracture and building a bigger identity

After Soojin left the group in 2021, the remaining five members had to rebuild both the performance formation and the public story. “TOMBOY” did not quietly ask for another chance. It arrived like a door being kicked open. “Nxde,” “Queencard,” “Super Lady,” and the chart life of “Fate” expanded the group’s reach while keeping the voices recognizable.

Miyeon became even more useful during this period because the group’s concepts grew louder, more satirical, and more theatrical. Her vocal color could keep a chorus musical when the arrangement was busy making an argument.

2025–2026: the i-dle name and the solo ecosystem

In 2025 the group marked its seventh anniversary by officially dropping the parenthetical “G” from its English name and continuing as i-dle. The change did not erase the earlier catalog; it reframed a name the members had repeatedly discussed and placed the current five-member identity first.

By 2026, group work and individual work are no longer competing side quests. They feed one another. Miyeon can release a Japanese solo single, Yuqi can build a full solo catalog, Minnie can deepen her own musical lane, Soyeon can move between artist and producer, and Shuhua can expand her screen identity without making i-dle feel less coherent.

Solo career: from MY to “RUN AWAY”

Miyeon made her official Korean solo debut on April 27, 2022 with the EP MY and its title track “Drive.” The project leaned into melody, spring color, and a more openly romantic pop identity than i-dle’s group releases. It did not try to prove that she could out-weird her own group. It proved that her voice could carry a record without the group’s conceptual scaffolding.

Her solo catalog continued through soundtrack releases, collaborations, special singles, and songs that let her move between ballad phrasing and brighter pop. Tracks such as “Reno,” “Sky Walking,” and her soundtrack work matter because they show the difference between having solo lines and having a solo point of view.

“RUN AWAY” and the Japanese solo debut

On August 10, 2026, Miyeon released “RUN AWAY” as her first Japanese digital single through the i-dle and Universal Music Japan channels. The bright pop-rock track feels like a summer road movie and an anime opening got into the same getaway car. Miyeon is credited in early release information as the primary lyricist, giving the song’s escape fantasy a personal connection instead of treating Japan as a translated-content warehouse.

The music video turns an ice cream incident into a stolen guitar, a chase, and an ocean jump. It is polished, but it also lets her be funny and impulsive. That matters. Miyeon is beautiful enough that lazy direction could reduce her to close-ups. “RUN AWAY” gives her a character.

Acting, hosting, and the camera career

Miyeon has treated idol work as more than a music-only job. She acted in the web drama Replay: The Moment, appeared in entertainment programming, and became a familiar hosting presence. Her long tenure as an M Countdown MC strengthened a different skill set: live timing, transitions, interviews, reading a room, and staying composed when broadcast television refuses to behave.
