Five years before debut
XG did not appear from a mysterious laboratory in 2022, although the styling team would probably enjoy that version. The project began around 2017 under producer Simon “JAKOPS” Park and XGALX, an Avex-backed label built around the group. The trainees spent roughly five years learning dance, vocals, rap, English, Korean, and how to function as a team while the public had no reason to know their names.
The XTRA XTRA documentary later showed the less glamorous machinery: evaluations, lineup uncertainty, exhausting repetition, and young performers trying to grow without knowing whether growth would be enough. That history is why the group’s synchronization feels lived-in. They did not meet at debut. They survived the road to it together.
From “Tippy Toes” to global breakout
XG debuted March 18, 2022 with “Tippy Toes,” then followed with “MASCARA.” The first real explosion came through “Shooting Star,” “Left Right,” and the GALZ XYPHER, which gave listeners a reason to stop describing the group only through its business structure. The rappers had bite. The vocalists could actually sing. Most importantly, their English delivery felt rhythmic rather than memorized phonetically for export.
NEW DNA and AWE expanded the alien mythology while “WOKE UP” stripped the group down to hip-hop aggression. The first world tour, The first HOWL, ran across 35 cities and 47 shows, drawing roughly 400,000 people before a Tokyo Dome finale in May 2025. Coachella placed them at the top of the Sahara stage, not in a polite “international guest” corner.
In 2025, “GALA” turned ballroom, runway language, and Met Gala fantasy into a performance track. Their first full album, THE CORE – 核, arrived January 23, 2026 and entered the Billboard 200 top 100. By then, “global group” was less a branding pitch and more a description of where the audience already was.
What “X-POP” actually means
XG are all Japanese, trained through a system closely related to K-pop, live and work from South Korea, record primarily in English, and promote internationally. Calling them K-pop alone erases part of the design. Calling them J-pop alone misses how they were built. “X-POP” is their own answer: a border-crossing category broad enough for hip-hop, R&B, dance pop, Japanese fashion subcultures, Korean performance discipline, and whatever extraterrestrial eyebrow situation the next comeback requires.

Every song and video we cover is collected under the XG tag. “GALA” is the next deep dive because apparently seven women saw the Met Gala, ballroom culture, and intergalactic couture and decided restraint was for groups with weaker tailoring.
Fandom file
ALPHAZ is the official fandom name, built around the group’s wolf imagery and the idea of a pack. The useful entry points are the official music videos, XG TAPE for rap, XG VOX for vocals, XG MOVE for dance, and XTRA XTRA when you want the history instead of another 30-second edit claiming everybody was born fully trained.
COCONA publicly came out as AFAB transmasculine nonbinary in December 2025 and said they had undergone top surgery earlier that year. The group and label’s public support matters, especially inside industries where idols are often expected to remain marketable blanks. This profile treats that as part of XG’s current history, not gossip.
