History
HYBE and Geffen built a Los Angeles-based training program intended to apply K-pop development methods to a multinational pop group. More than 120,000 applicants were considered before the field was narrowed.
Twenty trainees entered the public competition. On November 17, Daniela, Lara, Manon, Megan, Sophia, and Yoonchae were selected as the final lineup.
The group officially debuted in June. “Touch” became the early breakout, while the Netflix documentary Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE turned the training process—and its conflicts—into public history.
“Gnarly” and “Gabriela” widened the group’s sound and visual identity. Performance clips, fashion campaigns, and choreography pushed them far beyond “new group” status.

Manon’s hiatus and the lineup question
Confirmed: HxG announced a temporary hiatus for Manon in February 2026 for health and wellbeing. The other five members continued promotions. The official KATSEYE member page still lists all six.
Why fans are debating it: later promotional material centers five members, Manon removed KATSEYE from her Instagram bio, and outside industry/media listings have been inconsistent.
Not confirmed: a permanent departure, contract termination, or feud. Those belong in the rumor column until the artist or company says otherwise.
Tea rule: receipts get dates and links. Theories are labeled theories. Nobody gets turned into a villain because the timeline is messy.
Pop built to move
The center is global pop, but the edges can swing from bright dance-pop to R&B, hyperactive production, darker performance tracks, and internet-native hooks. Their best songs leave enough negative space for six distinct personalities to land.
The camera is part of the dance
KATSEYE’s visual world treats choreography, editing, styling, and persona as one system. Even when a concept looks playful, it can be quietly arguing about visibility, desire, girlhood, fame, or who gets to do the looking.
