How HANA happened
HANA was formed through BMSG and CHANMINA’s 2024 audition project No No Girls. The title was the thesis: the show pushed back against an industry built on telling women “no” for their age, body, background, tone, or failure to match a pre-selected visual template. The final seven—CHIKA, NAOKO, JISOO, YURI, MOMOKA, KOHARU, and MAHINA—were announced in January 2025.
The group officially debuted on April 2, 2025 with “ROSE.” The debut reached No. 1 on Billboard Japan and established the thing that still makes HANA dangerous: they can deliver a polished pop record without hiding the voices that made people follow the audition in the first place.
Unlike a conventional K-pop group exported into Japan, HANA is a Japanese act built inside BMSG’s artist-development system with CHANMINA’s creative fingerprints all over it. That difference matters. Their performance language leans toward individual presence, live vocal credibility, hip-hop attitude, and songs that allow friction instead of demanding identical delivery.
What HANA sounds like
HANA moves between pop, hip-hop, R&B, rock edges, and performance-heavy tracks without asking every member to meet in the middle. JISOO’s distinctive vocal color, CHIKA’s power, MOMOKA’s rap attack, NAOKO’s control, KOHARU’s movement, YURI’s clarity, and MAHINA’s youthful bite create a group that sounds assembled for contrast rather than uniformity.

ILLIT × HANA: the crossover
In July 2026, JISOO and MOMOKA featured on ILLIT’s Japanese single “I Got Your Back.” They also participated in writing the lyrics. The collaboration placed two of HANA’s most immediately contrasting voices inside ILLIT’s bright pop-rock world and promptly sent curious GLLITs into HANA starter-playlist threads.
