Early life

Meret Manon Bannerman was born in Zürich, Switzerland, and has Ghanaian and Swiss family roots. Before the HYBE and Geffen trainee project, she was already visible online as a model and lifestyle creator. That background explains part of her camera confidence, but it should not be mistaken for conventional idol training: the Dream Academy process required her to build singing, dancing, stamina, and team habits under public evaluation.

During The Debut: Dream Academy, Manon advanced through the mission system and earned a place in the six-member KATSEYE lineup alongside Daniela, Lara, Megan, Sophia, and Yoonchae. The final group was designed as a global pop act trained through a K-pop development system rather than as a Korean-only idol group.

Debut and growth

KATSEYE introduced its recorded identity in 2024 with “Debut,” followed by “Touch” and the SIS (Soft Is Strong) EP. “Touch” became the more important early breakthrough, giving the members a compact performance built around instantly readable choreography and individual camera moments. Manon’s understated facial control and low-key charisma became especially useful in that format.

Her development has also been part of the group’s public narrative. The Netflix documentary Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE showed tension around training expectations and attendance, then showed the members working through those conflicts. That footage is context, not a permanent verdict on her professionalism. Later performances should be judged as later performances, and her improvement in synchronization, breath control, and stage confidence is part of the record.

Identity and impact

Manon’s presence carries significance for Black and mixed-race fans who rarely see themselves represented inside idol-style global groups. Her popularity is not only about representation, though. Her appeal combines a distinctive lower vocal color, fashion instincts, composure, and an ability to make small gestures register on camera. Those qualities create contrast inside KATSEYE’s otherwise high-energy performance line.

She remains a KATSEYE member profile rather than a solo Artist profile because no formal solo music debut has been verified. Modeling, social-media work, and individual brand activity do not by themselves establish a separate solo discography.
