NCT DREAM Profile: Members, Music, History and Facts

NCT DREAM began as NCT’s teenage unit, survived a graduation system that tried to separate its own chemistry, reunited as seven, and entered a new six-member chapter in 2026. Their music grew up in public: hoverboards and chewing gum first, first love and graduation anxiety next, then full albums about ambition, adulthood, memory and the unnerving discovery that “youth” does not end just because the styling budget got larger.

The graduation system, 7DREAM and the 2026 lineup

NCT DREAM debuted with Mark, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle and Jisung under an age-based graduation concept. Mark graduated at the end of 2018. The system created an obvious problem: the group’s chemistry was the product, but the rules required SM to dismantle it as the members aged.

In 2020, SM abolished the graduation system and restored DREAM as a fixed seven-member unit. “7DREAM” became more than fandom shorthand. It represented a lineup fans had watched lose a member by policy and regain him when the policy finally admitted defeat.

Mark remained part of the fixed group until April 8, 2026, when SM announced that his contract and all NCT activities had concluded. NCT DREAM now continues with Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle and Jisung. The seven-member catalog remains part of the group’s history; the current carousel correctly uses the six-member lineup.

Music and eras

Chewing Gum to We Young: adolescence in real time

“Chewing Gum” introduced a group young enough for hoverboards to feel like a concept instead of a workplace hazard. “My First and Last” and “We Young” translated first-love intensity into bright pop with unusually demanding choreography. The songs were youthful without treating youth as stupidity.

GO, We Go Up and BOOM: the concept starts to strain

“GO” broke the school-uniform frame with heavier production and adolescent frustration. “We Go Up” arrived around Mark’s graduation, which made its forward motion land like a goodbye. “BOOM” in 2019 sounded more controlled and self-possessed, proof that DREAM could mature without abandoning melody.

Ridin’ and the fixed-unit decision

Reload and “Ridin’” closed the original graduation era. Once the fixed-unit structure was announced, the group’s future stopped feeling like an expiration date. The members could build a catalog around shared history instead of acting as temporary occupants of a concept.

Hot Sauce and Hello Future: the commercial leap

Hot Sauce was the first full album and a seven-member return. The title track is deliberately strange, using a chant and sparse percussion before the chorus explodes. “Hello Future” answered it with maximalist optimism. Together they made DREAM’s biggest early argument: adulthood did not require beige music or emotional restraint.

Glitch Mode, Beatbox, Candy and ISTJ

“Glitch Mode” turned romantic malfunction into digital choreography. “Beatbox” loosened the shoulders and brought the group outside. Their remake of H.O.T.’s “Candy” became a winter-era phenomenon, while ISTJ used personality types as a hook for rejecting easy categorization.

DREAM( )SCAPE, BTTF, CHILLER and Beat It Up

The 2024 DREAM( )SCAPE era moved into anxiety, escape and the pressure underneath youth culture. “Smoothie” was darker and more percussive. The 2025 full album Go Back to the Future and songs including “BTTF” and “CHILLER” used memory, games and time travel without reducing the members to nostalgia props. Beat It Up continued the six-mini-album run and became another million seller.

Sound, vocals and performance

DREAM’s catalog works because it treats youth as a changing emotional condition, not a permanent cute concept. Their brighter songs rely on clean melody and group chemistry; their darker songs use bass, chant hooks and electronic textures without losing the voices that make the group recognizable.

Haechan and Renjun cut through dense mixes, Chenle supplies clarity and power, Jisung gives the low end physical presence, and Jeno and Jaemin provide contrasting rap textures and performance weight. The choreography grew from literal youthful play into arena-scale formations, but the best stages still feel like six people who know exactly how the others will move.

How NCT DREAM fits inside NCT

NCT DREAM owns music credited to NCT DREAM. NCT U rotations stay on NCT U, and full-project NCT releases stay on the NCT music profile. The NCT Umbrella Project hub explains the architecture without combining every unit’s members and tracker into one enormous green spreadsheet.
