ARTIST + MEMBER PROFILE
Chenle
Chenle did not begin his recording life with NCT. He entered NCT DREAM after years as a child singer in China, then spent a decade becoming one of the group’s clearest live vocal anchors. His solo history is not a cute predebut footnote, and his 2025 Chinese project 灿 (Lucid) proves the individual catalog did not remain frozen in childhood.

Early solo career
Chenle released music as a child singer in China before joining SM Entertainment. His early catalog included the albums Tomorrow, My Wings and You Are There, as well as concerts and televised appearances. Those records are principally credited work, not audition clips relabeled after he became famous.
The childhood catalog needs context. A young singer’s voice, repertoire and public presentation are not identical to the adult artist he became. Still, deleting that period because it does not look like a modern idol solo debut would be historically wrong. His recording career predates NCT DREAM.
NCT DREAM
Joining with very little trainee time
Chenle debuted with NCT DREAM in 2016 after a notably short training period. His prior stage experience helped, but idol performance required a different kind of precision, including synchronized choreography, camera blocking, rapid Korean-language work and a group vocal blend.
From graduation anxiety to 7DREAM
He remained part of DREAM through the original graduation concept, Mark’s temporary departure, the end of the graduation system and the restored seven-member configuration. His voice became especially important as the group’s music expanded from adolescent brightness into the larger emotional and technical demands of “Hot Sauce,” “Hello Future,” “Glitch Mode,” “Beatbox,” “ISTJ,” “Smoothie,” “CHILLER” and later releases.
Chenle is often treated as effortlessly loud and funny in variety content. The music tells a more precise story. He is a disciplined vocalist whose clean pitch and open tone keep difficult choruses from sounding cramped.
Current solo work
OST activity
His principally credited 2024 Chinese drama ending theme “活下去爱下去 (Live and Love)” confirmed that his individual catalog had restarted outside the childhood era. No safe official YouTube upload was identified for tracking, so this profile documents the release without attaching a fan copy.
灿 (Lucid)
The 2025 Chinese special project 灿 (Lucid) brought Chenle’s current solo identity into focus. It includes “泪桥 (Tear Bridge),” the title track “灿 (Lucid)” and “宇宙的笑话 (Cosmic Joke)” featuring Bibi Zhou. The project connects an adult vocalist to the solo history that existed before NCT without pretending no time passed between them.
“We Young,” released in 2026 by a large ensemble for Voices of Youth, does not belong in the solo tracker. Being one named singer among more than twenty performers is not the same thing as a principal Chenle release.
Voice and performance
Chenle’s voice is open, bright and unusually stable at volume. He can place a note high in the mix without squeezing it into harshness. That reliability matters in DREAM’s choruses, where stacked vocals and busy percussion can turn a merely loud performance into mush.
His solo material benefits from the same clarity but gives him more control over pacing. He can move from a conversational phrase into a sustained line without needing to hand the emotional sentence to another member after eight seconds. Revolutionary concept, apparently.
