Early life and training
Sumin began training while still in middle school and spent years moving through the audition-and-trainee system before High Up’s lineup solidified. That long runway matters. She did not arrive as the loudest specialist in a six-person room; she arrived with the adaptability to connect different tones and personalities.
Before debut, the future members were known informally as High Up Girls and appeared in the YouTube Originals documentary series K-Pop Evolution, which captured part of the unglamorous final training period.
Career
As the eldest member and leader, Sumin became the group’s public stabilizer during a debut shaped by pandemic restrictions. She often handles transitions in interviews and performances, but the more important work is musical: her lines frequently bridge J’s lower color, the brighter upper voices, and the chorus.
