Busan was not a cute line in a profile

ISA grew up in Busan and trained at HAK Enter Academy before High Up Entertainment existed as a proven idol company. She has talked about looking up to HyunA and, during her academy years, telling the senior artist that she wanted to become an idol. The encouraging answer was that they should meet again in Seoul. ISA eventually did move north, but the part between dream and arrival was less glamorous than the sentence usually sounds.

She was still young, living away from home, and entering a company that had producers with hits but no debuted idol group of its own. High Up was founded around Black Eyed Pilseung, the production duo behind major releases for acts including TWICE, SISTAR, and Chungha. That pedigree did not guarantee that its first trainee project would survive. ISA was joining an experiment.

She has spoken about how difficult the Busan-to-Seoul move became and how close she came to quitting trainee life. The other future members were part of the reason she stayed. That history makes the soft “STAYC’s mom” label more meaningful. She was not simply assigned a nurturing personality during debut promotions. She had already been part of the project’s emotional scaffolding while everybody was waiting to find out whether there would be a group at all.

The first High Up trainee

ISA joined High Up in March 2018 and is widely identified as the first trainee to enter the company’s future girl-group lineup. She spent more than two years preparing before STAYC debuted in November 2020. During that time, the project gradually added Sumin, Sieun, Seeun, Yoon, and J, each with a voice distinct enough that the producers could write parts around color rather than treating six singers like interchangeable layers.

Being first did not make ISA the automatic center or leader. It meant she saw every addition change the group. Her eventual value was not built around having the biggest belt or the deepest voice. Sieun and Yoon could bring more obvious high-register power. J could anchor the bottom. ISA occupied the middle with a rounded tone that could soften a transition without making it disappear.

The training period also helps explain her performance style. She is economical. Her expressions are controlled, the lines of her movement are clean, and she understands that the camera will come closer if she gives it something specific to find. That can read as effortless. The long trainee period says otherwise.

“SO BAD” and six vocal colors

STAYC debuted on November 12, 2020 with “SO BAD” and the single album Star to a Young Culture. The group name stands for that phrase, but the more important debut promise was the production: High Up presented six different vocal colors and expected the members to perform live often enough for audiences to hear them.

ISA’s place becomes obvious in “SO BAD.” The song is bright, urgent, and packed with high synth energy. Her warmer phrasing gives the arrangement somewhere to breathe. That same function became even clearer on “ASAP,” where her pre-chorus and post-chorus lines helped bridge the conversational verses and the deliberately sticky hook.

“ASAP” was the breakout. The choreography traveled, the hook became unavoidable, and casual viewers started asking who the woman with the cat eyes and soft voice was. “STEREOTYPE” followed with a sweeter surface and a more vulnerable message. “RUN2U” then pushed the group into metallic synths and a more forceful romantic stance. ISA could fit all three because her identity was based on tone and timing, not a single costume.

The career map

2020 to 2021: recognition

“SO BAD,” “ASAP,” and “STEREOTYPE” established STAYC’s teen-fresh vocabulary. ISA was often used in the pre-chorus, bridge, or a short line immediately before the hook. Those are dangerous assignments when a member has no character. With ISA, the change in texture made the chorus feel earned.

2022: “RUN2U” and range pressure

“RUN2U” asked the members to sing through a harder, higher arrangement while preserving their individual tones. Fans and critics debated the comfort of some live keys, which is a legitimate conversation around a group marketed on live vocals. ISA’s growth became visible as she learned to manage breath and keep her color when the melody climbed.

2023: “Teddy Bear” and “Bubble”

STAYC swung back toward bright pop with “Teddy Bear” and “Bubble.” ISA’s calm delivery kept those tracks from becoming six identical servings of sugar. Her voice can smile without turning childish, a useful skill for a group trying to age without abandoning the color that made it popular.

2024: Metamorphic and “Roses”

The first full album finally gave every member more room. ISA’s solo “Roses” leaned into the warmth and intimacy already present in her group work. It did not force her into a generic power ballad to prove she could sing. The track understood that closeness is the point.

2025 and beyond

Later releases and Japanese promotions widened the catalog while the group navigated the familiar problem of a mid-career girl group: how to mature without losing the audience that arrived for a very specific sound. ISA is one of the easiest members to carry through that transition. Sleek R&B, bright pop, sentimental OST work, and low-key dance music all suit her without requiring a new personality.

What her voice actually does

ISA is frequently described as husky, but that word is too blunt on its own. Her tone is warm, slightly grainy, and rounded at the edges. It can sound conversational even when the melody is carefully placed. Producers use her well when they need to lower the emotional distance between the listener and the song.

Listen to the pre-choruses. She often enters after a brighter or sharper voice and turns the line inward. She does not always attack consonants hard, which lets the phrase feel like an aside. On a song such as “ASAP,” that makes the transition playful. On “RUN2U,” it adds tension. In softer material, it becomes reassurance.

Her technique has developed in public. Early live stages could expose breath pressure or discomfort in higher placements. Later performances show more control and a clearer understanding of when to stay connected, when to lighten the sound, and how to move without losing the center of the phrase. A fan site should be able to say both things: the color was always special, and the live singer improved.

Solo songs, lyrics, and the work beyond a title-track line

“Roses (ISA)” arrived on STAYC’s 2024 album Metamorphic. The dreamy, flirtatious track gave her a complete song in the register and mood where her tone works best. It is a useful entry point for listeners who know her face from “ASAP” but have never heard what happens when the arrangement is built around her rather than divided among six members.

ISA also participated in STAYC’s first song written by all six members, a fan song included in the group’s 2024 album cycle. In the group’s Weverse Magazine playlist notes, she explained that she wrote her lines while thinking about SWITH and filled them with things she had wanted to say to fans, including reassurance that she would wait, that fear was unnecessary, and that she could keep going with them beside her.

In 2025, she released the solo OST “Star Trail” for the MBC drama Crushology 101. The city-pop arrangement paired retro synth bass, rhythmic guitar, and electric piano with her lighter, kitschy vocal color. It was a sensible OST choice. ISA can make a romantic scene feel warm without singing over it.

The woman behind the cat comparisons

ISA’s feline visuals became a fandom shortcut almost immediately. The eyes are distinctive and she can hold a cool expression long enough for a still image to look expensive. Offstage, she is known for being quieter, affectionate, and attentive. Early Korean interviews described her as a maternal presence inside STAYC, which tracks with the member who had been in the company longest and had already considered leaving before the lineup became real.

She also has a long and unusually specific list of food and environmental allergies, a subject she has discussed publicly on Korean programs. It is a recurring piece of fandom trivia because the list became almost comically extensive, but the practical reality is less cute: food choices and schedules require attention. Mentioning it as a health fact is more useful than turning it into a personality.

What survives across interviews is the impression that she listens first. That is why the calm image works. It does not feel like a company invented “mysterious cat girl” and told her never to blink. Her stage restraint and offstage patience come from the same pace.

2026: STAY ALIVE, 2:LOVE, and the next live chapter

STAYC opened 2026 with a major Japanese catalog step. Their first Japanese studio album, STAY ALIVE, arrived February 11 and included an individual ISA edition. The album gathered the group’s Japanese work into a fuller statement instead of treating each single as a disconnected side schedule. For ISA, Japanese promotion places extra attention on vocal tone: her warm lower color remains recognizable even when pronunciation, phrasing, and broadcast rhythm change.

The Korean return came with the sixth single album 2:LOVE on June 16. Official fan events and the comeback talk show confirm the release schedule. The project extended a career that had already moved from Black Eyed Pilseung’s bright “teen-fresh” formula into full albums, tour arrangements, and more member-specific material. ISA’s job remained less about winning a volume contest and more about changing the emotional temperature of a passage. A low, rounded line before a chorus can make the brighter voices around it feel sharper.

Her individual performance archive also continued to matter. The official STAYC media channel preserves “Roses (ISA)” from the 2025 STAY TUNED tour, evidence that her solo lane is not a rumor built from line-distribution arguments. A concert solo asks her to hold attention without the six-member vocal contrast that normally frames her. It also provides a better basis for discussing future individual music than inventing a solo debut that has not happened.

STAYC announced the 2026 STAY CLOSER fan-concert tour, with Seoul shows scheduled for August 22 and 23. Because this profile is checked on August 12, those Seoul dates are recorded as announced, not completed. The distinction protects the archive from quietly converting promotional plans into history. Official posters include ISA and confirm her participation in the current six-member lineup.

As of August 2026, ISA remains a current STAYC member under High Up Entertainment. There has been no official departure, hiatus, or replacement announcement. Her directory status is therefore Current member, 2020–present. Japanese albums, Korean releases, group tours, writing credits, and verified solo stages all remain connected to this single member identity.
