Jay dances like somebody who learned the difference between speed and control before half the current industry was born. That is not nostalgia. That is usable craft.

Before ASC2NT
Jay went viral for dance in sixth grade, appeared on television, and later debuted through XING as Kipalang before joining DGNA/The Boss in 2010. He acted as a child, built Japanese musical and theater experience, served in a military band from 2018 to 2020, and returned with Karam and Injun on Peak Time as Team 23:00. By the time ASC2NT debuted, “rookie main dancer” described the release calendar, not the man.
Music, performance and work
Jay supplies ASC2NT’s popping foundation, main-dancer precision and rap structure. The group’s choreography works because he understands where sharpness should stop; every count cannot scream or the chorus has nowhere to rise. He has also acted in films, plays and Power Rangers Dino Force Brave. In the five-member era, his steadiness matters even more because a lineup replacement changes spacing, vocal handoffs and trust, not only the name list under a teaser.
From XING to DGNA: the first two careers
Jay’s public career did not begin with ASC2NT. He entered XING in 2008 under the stage name Kipalang, part of a group whose rotating lineup makes member histories easy to flatten or misdate. He then debuted in 2010 as Jay of The Boss, known in Korean as Dae Guk Nam Ah and internationally through the abbreviation DGNA. The group promoted in Korea and Japan, giving him an unusually long pre-ASC2NT record in dance, rap, vocals, language work, and live performance.
DGNA’s Japanese catalog and stage work matter because they explain the control visible in ASC2NT. Jay has spent years learning how choreography reads from different venue sizes, how to conserve energy across schedules, and how to support performers with different experience levels. Calling him merely a 2024 rookie erases the professional history that ASC2NT was explicitly built to revive.
Acting, stage work, and military service
Outside group releases, Jay accumulated acting and theater experience, including Japanese productions and screen work. These jobs required a different kind of repetition from music-show promotion: staying inside a character, reproducing blocking, and responding to scene partners instead of only cameras. He later completed military service in a military band from 2018 to 2020.
The military-band detail is more than a hiatus marker. It kept performance discipline and ensemble awareness in his daily life during a period when DGNA was no longer operating like an active mainstream idol group. His later return therefore reads less like a sudden comeback from nowhere and more like another stage in a long working career.
Peak Time and Team 23:00
Jay returned to Korean idol television in 2023 with Karam and Injun as Team 23:00 on JTBC’s Peak Time. The program was designed for groups seeking another chance, and their performances reminded viewers that experience can remain visible even after industry momentum disappears. The team withdrew before the competition ended, but the appearance still reintroduced the members to an audience that had missed much of DGNA’s earlier work.
NEWWAYS Company subsequently signed the three performers and developed ASC2NT around them. Reon and Kyle joined the initial five-member lineup, combining veteran stage instincts with members beginning a new public chapter. That construction is central to the group’s identity, not trivia to be hidden below a birthday table.
ASC2NT debut and the first release cycle
ASC2NT debuted on May 7, 2024 with the single album Expecting Tomorrow. The title captures the project’s premise: experienced performers treating a new debut as forward motion instead of an attempt to pretend the past never happened. Jay entered as main rapper and main dancer, using popping foundations and precise control to anchor formations.
The first year established a group whose appeal depended on visible craft. Jay’s job was not simply to occupy a dance position. He helped create clean transitions, controlled accents, and stable performance energy while the members built trust as a new unit.
Injun’s departure and the rebuilt lineup
Injun paused activities for health reasons and officially left ASC2NT on June 24, 2025 after discussions with the agency. That departure changed both the emotional history of the group and its working arrangement. Jay and Karam lost a colleague who had shared the DGNA and Peak Time chapters with them.
NEWWAYS added Hyowon, previously known as JuKang of JWiiver, as the new fifth member. The rebuilt lineup of Karam, Jay, Reon, Kyle, and Hyowon returned with Conversion Part.2: Bloomed and “DON’T MOVE” on July 24, 2025. Jay’s experience mattered during that reset because replacing a member requires new spacing, line handoffs, and offstage trust, not merely a revised promotional photograph.
“Replay” and STILL: I
ASC2NT released the digital single “Replay” on December 23, 2025, maintaining the reconstructed lineup into the next calendar year. On February 26, 2026, the group released its first mini album, STILL: I. The title extended the group’s interest in continuity and identity: these performers were still themselves even when the team around them and the market confronting them had changed.
For Jay, the era adds another release to a discography stretching across multiple group names and generations. His current work should be judged as ASC2NT material, but the listener benefits from knowing why his timing, restraint, and camera awareness feel different from those of a first-time debutant.
Performance file: what Jay actually does
Jay’s dance foundation is associated with popping, but his usefulness is broader than a genre label. He isolates cleanly, stops motion without losing musical flow, and understands when a supporting part should remain quiet enough for another member to become the focus. Those choices are especially important in a mixed-experience lineup.
As a rapper, he provides rhythmic definition and contrast. As a performer, he can shift between seriousness and the lighter chemistry used in ASC2NT’s variety and behind-the-scenes material. A complete profile should track the work rather than reduce him to viral childhood-dance anecdotes or recycled personality facts.
August 2026 status checkpoint
As of August 12, 2026, Jay remains a current member of ASC2NT under NEWWAYS Company. His visible directory tenure is 2024–present. The active lineup is Karam, Jay, Reon, Kyle, and Hyowon; Injun is a former member and should not be silently included in current-member counts.
Current information should be checked first against NEWWAYS and ASC2NT’s official channels, then against release credits and dated reporting. Fan databases are useful discovery indexes, but they should not be allowed to erase Jay’s XING, DGNA, stage, military, Peak Time, and 2026 ASC2NT chronology.
Archive method
This profile separates verified chronology from informal fandom notes. Names, debut dates, lineup changes, release titles, and agency status are checked against official artist pages, dated company announcements, album listings, and contemporary reporting. Nicknames and hobby anecdotes remain useful for personality context, but they cannot replace the documented career record.
Because Jay has used the same stage name across multiple acts and shares it with several other idols, every directory label includes ASC2NT. Searches for Jeon Ji-hwan, Kipalang, DGNA Jay, Team 23:00 Jay, and ASC2NT Jay should all resolve to this one career file rather than creating duplicate people.
The panda side quest
Jay walks about ten thousand steps a day, watches Netflix across genres and treats meat with the gravity other people reserve for tax law. Injun once said he ate eleven servings in middle school. Jay and Kyle also work out together at night and have replaced meals with protein shakes, which sounds less like wellness and more like a hostage negotiation with dinner.
