BLACKPINK Came Back After 3½ Years,and “DEADLINE” Is Really About Who Holds the Pen Now
Four solo empires walked back into one group,and every member arrived with writing credits. That is the tea. Not whether they can still pose together.
The comeback was late. The power shift was not.
BLACKPINK returned on February 27 with the five-track mini album DEADLINE, ending a three-year-and-five-month gap since BORN PINK. Korean coverage did not frame this as an ordinary promotional cycle because it obviously was not one. During the gap, Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé built separate companies, catalogs, acting careers, tours, and brand identities. They did not return to YG as the same employees who left the group studio in 2022.
Maeil Business Newspaper’s February 27 report confirmed the part that makes this era more interesting than a reunion photo: all four members participated in lyric writing, and Rosé also received a composition credit. The album includes “GO,” “JUMP,” “Me and my,” “Champion,” and “Fxxxboy.”

The National Museum move was not random pretty lighting
The comeback partnered with the National Museum of Korea for a listening event, member audio guides, a special leaflet, and a pink illumination of the museum exterior. Korean coverage noted it was the museum’s first artist collaboration using the building exterior at that scale.
That choice places BLACKPINK beside Korean cultural objects instead of treating “global” as code for removing anything visibly Korean. It is also a corporate image flex: the group can return after years apart and borrow the symbolic weight of a national institution for release week. Subtle? No. Effective? Extremely.
My actual read
The important question is not whether BLACKPINK still works. Of course it works. Scarcity turned every full-group appearance into an event, and the members’ solo success expanded the audience instead of shrinking it. The question is what the group means when none of them needs it in the same desperate way anymore.
That can make the music better. A reunion built on choice has a different electricity from a comeback built on contract obligation. But I want receipts beyond the credits page. Give me songs where their writing changes the point of view, not four names added to a hook assembled by committee. Give me a group sound that acknowledges what happened while they were apart.
Star Today called the album a test of the complete group after each member reached separate peaks. Exactly. DEADLINE is not proving they can reunite. It is proving the reunion can be artistically necessary.
