Bottom line

SF9 debuted on October 5, 2016 under FNC Entertainment as nine members and now continues as eight: Youngbin, Inseong, Jaeyoon, Dawon, Zuho, Yoo Taeyang, Hwiyoung and Chani. Rowoon left the group in September 2023 to focus on acting.

The current eight-member identity and the number appearing in one comeback are not always the same thing. Military service, acting schedules and individual management repeatedly changed the promotional lineup without automatically changing membership.

The name and the actual group

SF9 came from “Sensational Feeling 9,” with the nine also tied to the character for longevity. The name survived a roster change because its meaning was never only a headcount printed on a jersey.

A current guide must still say clearly that eight people remain. Symbolism cannot replace names, dates or participation credits.

From Fanfare to a recognizable lane

“Fanfare” introduced FNC’s first dance-focused boy group with youthful force. Later releases sharpened a lane built from sleek rhythm, long body lines, emotional restraint and choreography that can look elegant without becoming harmless.

Songs such as “Now or Never,” “Enough,” “Good Guy,” “Tear Drop” and “Trauma” made sophistication a physical performance language rather than a wardrobe instruction.

Eight current members, one former member

FNC announced in September 2023 that SF9 would continue with eight members after Rowoon’s departure. Youngbin, Inseong, Jaeyoon, Dawon, Zuho, Yoo Taeyang, Hwiyoung and Chani remain the current roster.

Rowoon’s page preserves his nine-member work and dates the departure. It does not receive cards for releases made after he left.

BIBORA and the seven-person frame

The January 2024 Sequence era followed Rowoon’s departure and included Youngbin, Inseong, Dawon, Zuho, Yoo Taeyang, Hwiyoung and Chani in the “BIBORA” MV. Jaeyoon was still serving in the military.

The exact playlist file therefore routes to seven current-member profiles, not all eight and not Rowoon. Historical accuracy is visible at the level of one video.

What BIBORA does well

“BIBORA” turns a storm into emotional contradiction: wanting to forget a relationship while still wanting the time back. SF9 use mature restraint, rhythmic pull and a chorus that feels like weather pressing against a closed room.

The group’s elegance works because pressure remains underneath it. Good tailoring cannot substitute for the beat, voice or movement.

Don’t Worry, Be Happy and the five-person frame

The August 2024 Fantasy album was promoted by Youngbin, Inseong, Yoo Taeyang, Hwiyoung and Chani. Jaeyoon and Dawon were enlisted, while Zuho did not participate in the release.

Five visible and credited performers receive the exact MV card. Current membership does not grant retroactive participation in every file.

A bright song after darker elegance

“Don’t Worry, Be Happy” moves into a lighter, breezier frame without asking SF9 to pretend they have no history. The five performers keep the ease adult through controlled groove and relaxed confidence.

The song earned a music-show win. More importantly for the archive, it proves lineup disruption did not erase the group’s ability to define a coherent moment.

Yoo Taeyang becomes a solo artist

Yoo Taeyang released the self-composed digital single “Hug Me” in October 2024. That makes his canonical member page an artist profile too; a duplicate solo page would split one person’s search authority and video tracker.

The exact solo React routes to Yoo Taeyang and the SF9 hub as labeled member work. Other members do not receive participant cards.

LOVE RACE in 2025

Jaeyoon returned for the 2025 LOVE RACE era, while the active promotional configuration continued to reflect military service and scheduling. The album and later tour demonstrate that SF9 did not stop at the two playlist files.

A hub built in 2026 cannot freeze the group in the most convenient older comeback photo.

TENACITY is current through August 2026

SF9 released the second full album TENACITY on August 26, 2026 for the tenth-anniversary year, led by “Without Wings.” The group remains eight, while six members—Youngbin, Inseong, Jaeyoon, Dawon, Hwiyoung and Chani—front the live promotion because Zuho and Yoo Taeyang are serving in the military.

That distinction belongs at the top of the current file. “Six in the showcase” and “eight in the group” are both true because they answer different questions.

Ten years without pretending continuity was tidy

SF9 survived enlistments, outside acting representation, solo releases, a member departure and comeback lineups that rarely matched the full roster. The interesting achievement is not that nothing changed. It is that the members kept finding a readable SF9 performance language while everything changed.

Longevity deserves specifics. Anniversary slogans become credible when the archive shows who carried each era.

RaeRae take

SF9’s best songs understand that sensuality is timing, not exposed skin or a permanent smolder. A delayed step, a low rap entrance and a vocal line that refuses to oversell heartbreak can make the room feel smaller around them.

BIBORA shows the emotional storm. “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” shows the lighter release. TENACITY proves the current story kept moving two days before this audit was updated.

Image-card standard

Every hub, person and React uses a separate real image stored in the local media library with source attribution, descriptive metadata and a consistent featured/hero/social relationship.

Cards remain static and readable. No infinite sideways chase, no pale text disappearing into a similarly pale background, and no reused feature image pretending two exact files are one.

SF9 group facts

  • Name: SF9, Sensational Feeling 9
  • Debut: October 5, 2016 with “Fanfare”
  • Origin: Seoul, South Korea
  • Company: FNC Entertainment for group work
  • Current members: Youngbin, Inseong, Jaeyoon, Dawon, Zuho, Yoo Taeyang, Hwiyoung and Chani
  • Former member: Rowoon, who left group activity in September 2023
  • Leader: Youngbin
  • Fandom: FANTASY
  • Current status: Active eight-member group; exact promotional lineups vary by military service and individual schedules

Formation through NEOZ School and d.o.b

FNC introduced the future members through NEOZ School and the survival program d.o.b: Dance or Band. The dance team won the right to debut over the trainees who became Honeyst. Youngbin, Inseong, Jaeyoon, Dawon, Rowoon, Zuho, Yoo Taeyang, Hwiyoung and Chani debuted as FNC’s first dance-focused boy group.

The original nine did not share one obvious specialty. Inseong and Rowoon brought major vocal weight, Zuho and Hwiyoung supplied contrasting rap, Yoo Taeyang carried dance precision, Chani arrived with acting and performance experience, and Youngbin had to lead a group whose individual acting schedules would eventually become as visible as its albums.

Career: from Fanfare to O Sole Mio

“Fanfare,” “Roar” and “Easy Love” established SF9 with electronic drive and a polished but still rookie-hard performance frame. “O Sole Mio” gave them a more identifiable Latin-pop sweep, while “Now or Never” moved into sleek house production that suited their long lines and adult presentation.

“Enough,” “RPM” and “Good Guy” refined the tailored-suit side of the group. “Good Guy” became the commercial breakthrough because the restraint finally looked like confidence rather than a company concept asking nine men to stand attractively near furniture.

Kingdom, military service and changing promotion teams

SF9 competed on Kingdom: Legendary War in 2021, forcing a group already split across acting and music to rebuild old stages at competition scale. Military service soon made full-team promotion harder. Youngbin, Inseong, Jaeyoon and Dawon served on different schedules; other members carried releases and concerts while the roster remained larger than the people available in one photograph.

That distinction matters. A member in uniform is absent from promotion, not removed from the group. A member filming a drama can miss an MV without surrendering his page. Exact credits follow the artifact; membership follows official status.

Rowoon’s 2023 departure

In September 2023, FNC announced that Rowoon would leave SF9 group activity and focus on acting, while the remaining eight continued. His vocals, performances and images stay attached to every era he completed. His later acting work belongs on his canonical person profile, not inside the current member grid.

Rowoon’s departure is the only confirmed membership change. Zuho signing another agency for acting did not remove him from SF9. FNC and Zuho continued to describe his group membership even when he did not appear in specific releases.

BIBORA and the eight-member identity

“BIBORA” arrived with Sequence in January 2024. The storm metaphor lets SF9 return to emotional house-pop with the control that made “Now or Never” and “Good Guy” work. The exact official MV Gft8YBmNsjA has its own React and canonical image below.

The video belongs to the participating lineup in that exact release. Rowoon’s past does not disappear, and unavailable members do not receive automatic visual credit.

Fantasy and Don’t Worry, Be Happy

The 2024 Fantasy EP promoted with five members: Youngbin, Inseong, Yoo Taeyang, Hwiyoung and Chani. Jaeyoon and Dawon were serving, while Zuho did not participate in that release schedule. “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” turns absence into a breezy visual choice without pretending five had become the permanent roster.

The exact upload aTQy2tsMtN4 routes to the five people who appear. The group hub still names eight current members. This is precisely why promotional lineup and membership require separate fields.

Yoo Taeyang’s Hug Me

Yoo Taeyang released the digital single “Hug Me” in 2024. It is a solo artist file connected to his SF9 member profile, not an SF9 group video. The hub carries the card because it is part of a current member’s music ecosystem and the playlist tracks the exact upload NJyLNeMjtKE.

That relationship does not give the other seven performance credit. It helps a reader move from group history into Taeyang’s independent voice without losing the boundary between them.

Love Race, About Love and TENACITY

LOVE RACE arrived in March 2025 with six participating members; Dawon was serving and Zuho was absent from the recording/promotion schedule. Japanese activity followed, and the 2026 special album About Love continued the group’s mature romantic lane.

SF9 released their second full-length Korean album TENACITY on August 26, 2026, days before this audit. The active group identity remains eight even where an exact album schedule cannot include every member. Zuho enlisted in May 2026, so military timing must be attached to each file rather than turned into a departure claim.

Current status in August 2026

SF9 continues with Youngbin, Inseong, Jaeyoon, Dawon, Zuho, Yoo Taeyang, Hwiyoung and Chani. Youngbin remains leader. Rowoon is a former member. Zuho remains a member while serving and while his acting management sits outside FNC.

The current official fan-club cycle, Japan schedules and TENACITY activity prove an operating group. Individual absences must be documented at release level. The archive will not shrink the roster to whichever members FNC placed in the newest thumbnail.

Vocals, rap and performance craft

Inseong carries technical vocal power; Jaeyoon adds warmth and weight. Dawon brings a flexible voice and comedic instinct that can sharpen stage character. Youngbin leads with grounded rap, while Zuho’s lower, rougher tone and production work give SF9 an edge the smoother releases miss. Hwiyoung’s rap grew more individual through solo activity.

Yoo Taeyang is the dance axis and a vocalist whose control becomes clearer in solo work. Chani combines compact movement, rap, voice and years of acting experience. SF9 choreography uses long frames, clean lines and mature restraint; it works best when elegance still carries tension.

Fandom file: FANTASY

FANTASY is SF9’s official fandom name. The ninth global membership opened in August 2026, current evidence that the group’s fan infrastructure remains active. FANTASY history includes the original nine and the current eight without turning every temporary stage lineup into a new group.

Official light sticks, memberships and Japanese fan-club schedules belong to the group file. Solo fan names and individual agency notices belong on each artist profile.

RaeRae verdict

SF9’s archive gets messy because the group kept working while acting, military service and outside management pulled members in different directions. The answer is not choosing one convenient number and forcing every release under it.

Eight are members. Five, six or another exact combination may appear in a particular video. Rowoon belongs to the past catalogue. Zuho belongs to the current group even when FNC fails to place him in the frame. Credits follow evidence, not company convenience.

Rant: membership is not whatever the company photographed

FNC’s handling of Zuho creates exactly the kind of archive trap companies should be required to prevent. He signed outside management for acting while remaining an SF9 member, then disappeared from group releases and promotional frames. Fans are left to decide whether silence means scheduling, punishment, exclusion or an unannounced exit.

The page will not solve corporate opacity with fan fiction. Zuho stays in the current roster because official membership never ended. He does not receive credits for videos and recordings he did not make. Both sentences can be true, even if FNC would prefer everybody accept the latest group photo as a complete legal explanation.

This is also why “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” needs five names, LOVE RACE needs its exact six-person file, and the current hub still needs eight. Precision is not disloyalty. It is the only way to keep a long-running group from becoming whatever a marketing department needed that quarter.

How to enter the catalogue

Start with “Easy Love,” “O Sole Mio,” “Now or Never” and “Good Guy.” That run explains the move from rookie electronics into SF9’s sleek adult identity. Add “Tear Drop” for controlled sensuality, then “BIBORA” for the emotional house-pop line after Rowoon.

Watch “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” with the five-person credit in view, then move to Yoo Taeyang’s “Hug Me” to hear what one member does when the group architecture falls away. End with the 2025–2026 records, checking participation instead of assuming every official SF9 release uses the full current eight.
