The Vietnamese oldest member carried a bright vocal color and the strange job of being the elder in a group that never allowed him to act solemn for long.

Before ARrC: the Vietnamese school-stage chapter

Kien was not created by a Korean trainee profile. Before Mystic Story, Nguyễn Trung Kiên performed at school events in Vietnam and built a following on TikTok. Training rules reportedly required him to delete that account, which meant he entered the idol system by giving up the first audience he had already made for himself.

He moved from Ninh Thuận to South Korea, trained in another language and then debuted as the oldest member of a multinational group. That sounds neat in a fact box. In practice, it meant learning Korean quickly enough to sing, interview, joke and take corrections while cameras documented every gap. Kien never needed the fake “fluent from day one” story. Fans could hear the progress, and that made the work feel more human.

The oldest member who refused to become furniture

Kien debuted with ARrC on August 19, 2024 as lead vocalist and lead dancer. He was the oldest member, but the group did not use him as a solemn authority prop. His job was social: keep the energy open, make a multilingual room feel less stiff and help younger members find the joke without turning every interaction into a hierarchy lecture.

ARrC’s first lineup included Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese and Brazilian-Korean members. Later, Andy joined as a Japanese-American member after Ziwoo’s departure. Kien’s willingness to be visibly imperfect in Korean mattered here. He modeled the fact that communication is work, not magic. The warmth fans noticed was not decorative; it helped the group survive interviews and live content that could otherwise become seven people waiting for the safest answer.

The ARrC music file

ReleaseKien’s chapter
AR^C · August 19, 2024The original-lineup debut. “S&S (sour and sweet)” placed his lighter vocal color against a hip-hop frame and kept the song from becoming one solid block of swagger.
nu kidz: out the box · February 18, 2025The first comeback with Andy. “nu kidz” leaned into retro synths and boom-bap; Kien helped sell the bright side of a lineup transition the group was not allowed to make emotionally messy in public.
HOPE · July 16, 2025“awesome” gave him a louder, more communal performance file. His value is clearest when a chorus needs to feel like an invitation rather than a command.
CTRL+ALT+SKIID · November 3, 2025The final ARrC release mixed rock, hip-hop and workplace chaos. By then his Korean, camera ease and vocal confidence had visibly grown.

Why his voice mattered to ARrC

ARrC’s production often favored rhythmic impact, spoken hooks and youthful hip-hop posture. Kien supplied air. His tone was brighter and less heavy than the group’s rap spine, so he could lift transitions and keep a chorus from feeling crowded. That is not the same as being handed a giant power-vocal climax, and the catalog ended before he received the kind of vocal showcase that would have settled every argument.

His dance role mattered for the same reason. He performed with an open face and social energy, which made intricate group choreography feel less like seven trainees taking an exam. When he smiles in a formation, the smile reads like part of the music rather than a customer-service requirement.

The ending came before the second anniversary

Mystic Story announced ARrC’s disbandment on June 23, 2026. Kien left with less than two years of official group history and years of relocation, language study and training sitting behind it. “Former member” is accurate, but it is not a retirement notice. His public Instagram and X handles matter because they let fans follow the person instead of waiting for a company database to decide whether his next chapter deserves a card.

The frustrating part is not that ARrC failed to produce evidence. The group had four releases, two lineups and visible growth. The frustrating part is that Kien’s improvement became easiest to measure right when the group stopped giving him stages.

The panda side quests

  • Zombie file: Kien likes zombie movies. Moving countries for trainee life may have damaged his fear calibration.
  • Comfort-food answer: Vietnamese rice noodles are not a quirky trivia item; they are a tiny home coordinate inside a Korean schedule.
  • Color: light blue, which fits the bright vocal and approachable public energy almost suspiciously well.
  • Language progress: the side quest worth watching is not a list of languages. It is how much more confidently he occupied Korean interviews over seventeen months.
  • Social instinct: he can turn “oldest member” into a bridge instead of a throne.

Fandom notes and things the fact box misses

  • Birth name: Nguyễn Trung Kiên. Keeping the Vietnamese diacritics is basic respect, not optional decoration.
  • Oldest member: born December 19, 2004, but he rarely performed age authority as a personality.
  • Nationality: Vietnamese. That explains part of his route, not the whole person.
  • Position: lead vocalist and lead dancer. The short catalog undersold how much room those positions still had to grow.
  • ARrCer memory: fans remember visible Korean improvement, open reactions and the way he kept mixed-language content warm.
  • Post-group status: active personal handles exist. Do not confuse the end of ARrC with the end of Kien.
RaeRae take: Kien had the kind of idol story agencies love to summarize in one sentence, Vietnamese member moves to Korea and debuts, because the clean sentence hides the cost. He gave up an existing audience, rebuilt his public self in another language and became the oldest member without pretending he had every answer. ARrC ended before his voice received the chapter it deserved. The evidence we do have says he was getting better, louder and more comfortable. That is exactly why I am not filing him under “former” and walking away.
