Before debut: the trainee who arrived late and still made the team
Jaehee entered the public NCT story through NCT Universe: LASTART, the survival project used to assemble the final Japanese-market unit in NCT’s expansion era. He trained for a comparatively short period before the program, which made his climb feel less like a polished victory lap and more like somebody sprinting onto a moving train and refusing to fall off.
His birth name is Kim Dae-young, and he was introduced as a Korean trainee from Daegu. After the final lineup was selected, the team first promoted under the provisional name NCT NEW TEAM. He adopted Jaehee as his stage name before the official NCT WISH debut.
NCT WISH career
NCT WISH officially debuted in February 2024 with “WISH,” following the pre-debut releases “Hands Up” and “We Go!” The six-member lineup is Sion, Riku, Yushi, Jaehee, Ryo and Sakuya. Their entire premise lives in two markets at once: Japanese and Korean releases, youthful pop brightness, and the strange neon edge that tells you this is still an NCT unit.
Jaehee’s group catalog includes the bilingual debut era, “Songbird,” the first mini album Steady, the 2025 poppop and COLOR eras, and the group’s continuing Japanese releases. The important part is not simply the title count. He became one of the voices that gives WISH’s bright material weight when the arrangements open up.
Voice and performance
Jaehee is best described through what he repeatedly does on record and stage rather than by treating fan-made position charts as contracts. His clearest musical contribution is his vocal presence. He supplies the fuller, more grounded color beneath WISH’s airy choruses, then helps the group move from cute momentum into something that can actually land emotionally.
That contrast is the fun of him. NCT WISH can look like somebody poured soda over a chrome mood board, but Jaehee’s voice keeps the sugar from floating away. In live stages, watch how often he becomes the member asked to steady a transition, carry a melodic peak, or give a final chorus more body.
Is Jaehee a solo artist?
Not under CVM Sekai’s music-career rule. A member edition, audition performance, cover, fancam or group-album spotlight is not the same thing as an independently released solo single, album or principally credited OST. No qualifying Jaehee solo catalog has been verified as of August 2026. He therefore belongs in the Members directory, not the Artists directory.
