Hueningkai is the youngest member of TXT alongside SOOBIN, YEONJUN, BEOMGYU and TAEHYUN. BIGHIT MUSIC’s official profile emphasizes the five different members creating synergy rather than assigning a rigid public position chart. His documented work covers vocals, performance, lyric writing, composition and production, so this page follows credits and interviews instead of reducing him to “maknae.”
A childhood spread across countries and instruments
Hueningkai was born in Honolulu and spent significant childhood time in China before moving to South Korea. His Korean mother and American father gave him a family background that crossed languages and places early. A profile should not turn that history into guesses about identity or fluency, but it helps explain why international movement was familiar before TXT became a touring group.
Music was also part of family life. He learned instruments including piano and guitar and developed an interest in making songs through accessible software. Those skills later became more than variety-show trivia. They gave him a practical way to test chords, melodies and arrangements rather than waiting for formal studio access.
He auditioned and trained under Big Hit Entertainment before the company publicly revealed TXT. The trainee process required singing, dance, language work and the ability to fit an unusually narrative-driven group concept. BIGHIT announced Hueningkai as the third revealed member in January 2019.
His younger sister Huening Bahiyyih later debuted in Kep1er, while his older sister Lea had her own public entertainment work. Their careers are relevant family context only where publicly discussed; they do not make each sibling responsible for explaining the others’ private lives or fandom disputes.
The Dream Chapter and a debut built around youth
TXT debuted on March 4, 2019 with the mini album The Dream Chapter: STAR and title track CROWN. The debut introduced a bright surface with an underlying story about difference, isolation and finding people who understand. Hueningkai’s youthful tone fit the material, but the group’s concept already required more than cheerfulness.
The Dream Chapter: MAGIC followed later in 2019 with 9 and Three Quarters (Run Away). Hueningkai contributed to Roller Coaster, an early sign that member participation would grow alongside the narrative. The 2020 releases ETERNITY and minisode1: Blue Hour moved through darker emotion, disco-pop and the disorientation of adolescence.
The 2021 album The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE became a turning point for his voice and production work. TXT leaned into pop-rock and emo influence through 0X1=LOVESONG, LO$ER=LO♡ER and related material. Hueningkai’s stronger upper register and willingness to add grit made him especially valuable when the group’s sound needed urgency rather than polished softness.
minisode 2: Thursday’s Child in 2022 extended the darker breakup frame. The members participated across the release, and Hueningkai’s work on Dear Sputnik had already established him as more than a vocalist who occasionally submitted lyrics. The song’s arena-ready rock drive became a natural live showcase.
Temptation, Freefall and global collaborations
The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION opened 2023 with Sugar Rush Ride and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Hueningkai has discussed researching the darker versions of fairy tales to approach the Peter Pan and Neverland themes. That preparation shows how TXT performance depends on understanding story, not merely reproducing choreography.
TXT collaborated with the Jonas Brothers on Do It Like That and with Anitta on Back for More. The group also became the first K-pop act to headline Lollapalooza. In an Associated Press interview about The Name Chapter: FREEFALL, Hueningkai described the album as a freefall into reality, connecting its rock and new-wave sounds to the difficult movement from fantasy toward adulthood.
The 2024 releases minisode 3: TOMORROW and The Star Chapter: SANCTUARY continued the group’s long-form coming-of-age structure. The ACT: PROMISE tour expanded into major venues and later reached Europe. Hueningkai briefly left a Seoul encore stage in November 2024 because of sudden indigestion; BIGHIT issued an official health notice and supported his recovery. The event belongs in the record as a resolved schedule adjustment, not permanent status.
In 2025, TXT released the studio album The Star Chapter: TOGETHER. Each member received material that highlighted individual color within the group framework. Hueningkai’s solo track Bird of Night extended the rock-leaning vocal identity fans had heard in covers and concert stages without constituting a separate solo debut outside the album.
A voice that grew into rock without abandoning pop
Hueningkai’s voice combines a bright core with enough weight to sound convincing over guitars and heavy drums. Early TXT songs used his youthfulness as color; later records showed that the same tone could sharpen into urgency. He can move from a clean, almost conversational line into a high phrase that carries strain as emotion without losing pitch shape.
Rock covers and live stages have made that development especially visible. A cover does not create a new discography entry, but it can reveal technique outside the limits of a group title track. Hueningkai’s performances of Japanese rock material helped wider audiences hear the strength, diction and sustained tone that shorter TXT distributions sometimes conceal.
Inside the group, TAEHYUN often supplies a focused, cutting vocal line while SOOBIN and BEOMGYU bring different lower and breathier colors. Hueningkai helps connect those textures and can support both harmony and climax. His ability to play instruments also shapes phrasing: singers who understand chord movement often hear where a line needs tension or release.
GarageBand, Dear Sputnik and learning to finish songs
Hueningkai has described receiving an open request from the label to try writing a track without a fixed theme or guide. He opened GarageBand, a program he had used for years, and began building from feeling. The company later developed a theme around the material, and TAEHYUN contributed lyrics. That process became Dear Sputnik.
The story matters because it shows production as collaboration. Hueningkai did not claim to create every final element alone, but the originating musical idea survived into a released TXT song. The result became a fan favorite and a concert-ready track, demonstrating that accessible software and curiosity can lead to professional work when the idea is strong enough.
He has continued discussing lyric and melody writing in Weverse Magazine interviews. Not every demo becomes a release, and that is normal. Songwriting growth depends on generating material, accepting revision and learning why some ideas fit a group era while others do not.
His credits across TXT releases should be tracked song by song. Contribution can mean lyrics, composition, production or backing vocals, each a different kind of work. This page uses songwriter and producer because released records and first-person interviews support both terms; it does not assign him sole authorship where credits are shared.
The reliable youngest member and public boundaries
Hueningkai’s public personality is warm, enthusiastic and often playful. Members describe him as dependable despite his position as the youngest. He has spoken about wanting to become a trustworthy and reassuring presence, a goal visible in the way he supports group conversation and approaches practice.
He is also known for collecting plush toys and for broad curiosity about music, games and instruments. These details come from public content and offer texture without requiring surveillance. A profile does not need private relationship rumors, invasive family speculation or amateur diagnoses.
His mixed family background has sometimes attracted inappropriate debates about whether he looks or sounds “Korean enough.” The relevant professional record is simpler: he trained and debuted in South Korea, works in a Korean group, was born in the United States and spent childhood time in China. Those layers can coexist.
A Moment of Stillness, MOA CON and the 2026 file
TXT began 2026 with group concerts and fan events, including MOA CON schedules in Korea and Japan. At the final Seoul MOA CON performance, the group announced a new Korean project later identified as 7th Year: A Moment of Stillness in the Thorns. The title places the five members’ seventh anniversary inside another reflective chapter rather than treating longevity as a victory lap.
In an April 2026 Wonderland interview, Hueningkai discussed values learned from the older members and the steadiness built over years together. The interview followed TXT’s evolution from a newly announced team into senior artists with individual projects and a shared group identity. His answer reinforces the reliable-youngest-member framing without freezing him at age sixteen.
Japan remained important to his individual visibility. Official TXT Japan news listed BEOMGYU, TAEHYUN and HUENINGKAI for THE MUSIC DAY 2026, where the trio performed Japanese material. Magazine and cover work also expanded his individual fashion profile, but none of those schedules constitutes a solo music debut.
As of August 2026, BIGHIT MUSIC and TXT’s official sites continue to list Hueningkai with SOOBIN, YEONJUN, BEOMGYU and TAEHYUN. There is no departure announcement. His status is Active member, songwriter and producer, with 2019–present used for the directory years. Covers, solo tracks inside TXT albums and member-produced songs belong here; a separate solo artist entry should wait for an official individual debut.
Zodiac side quest
Western sign: Leo. Leo is associated with warmth, creative confidence and performance. It is a playful match for someone whose public brightness gradually became strong enough to carry rock stages.
Chinese zodiac: Water Horse. Hueningkai was born after Lunar New Year in 2002, making him a Water Horse. Horse years are linked with movement and independence, while Water adds adaptability. Astrology is entertainment, not evidence about his work ethic.
YouTube tracking history
Hueningkai does not currently have a separately verified official solo-video catalog. TXT releases remain attached to the TXT group profile so group totals are not duplicated as individual activity.
