BLUF: who this page is about

NCT is the umbrella project. NCT U opened the project in 2016 with “The 7th Sense” and “Without You,” followed by fixed units that gave the concept stable homes.

The current map is NCT 127, NCT DREAM, WayV, NCT WISH and the song-by-song NCT U system. Mark ended all NCT activities in April 2026, so older rosters and current rosters must be labeled instead of quietly blended.

The short version

This page separates current status from history. That sounds obvious until an old lineup graphic, a military hiatus, a solo schedule and a permanent departure are all treated as the same kind of absence. They are not. Current membership answers who belongs now; participation answers who appears on a particular release; history explains how the catalog got here.

How the system actually works

A useful NCT guide starts with the fixed-unit name on the release, then checks the credited performers, then follows individual work. It does not begin with a giant undifferentiated member list. That order keeps collaborations legible and prevents NCT U’s rotating credits from being mistaken for a conventional permanent band.

The music argument

The “neo” label is most useful when it describes construction rather than weirdness for its own sake. Percussion can be abrasive, transitions can pivot without warning and vocal stacks can arrive like a clean wall of light. The test is whether those choices create tension, character and replay value—not whether the track merely surprises on first listen.

What to listen for

Listen past the loudest production event. Track who begins a section, who changes its temperature, which voice makes a pre-chorus climb, and where the rap cadence locks to choreography rather than floating above it. Those decisions reveal the unit’s internal architecture much faster than position labels copied from an old profile.

Performance identity

NCT choreography often sells geometry: lines split, centers rotate and small isolations make mechanical production feel embodied. Good coverage still has to name the human choices. Precision is not personality by itself; timing, attack, restraint, facial focus and the handoff between members are what turn a formation into a performance.

Lineup history without the mess

Former members belong in the history section with dates and clear verbs. They should not be erased from recordings they made, and they should not remain in a current-member card grid after an official departure. This guide keeps catalog credit, former status and present lineup visible at the same time.

Solo work and unit work

Solo releases are not evidence that a member has quietly left a unit. They show what that performer emphasizes when the group arrangement is removed: a different vocal register, production taste, acting lane, dance vocabulary or writing voice. The solo profile and the member profile therefore remain one canonical page.

International fan route

Fans outside Korea do not need to live on translation rumors. Start with the official NCT Japan profile and news pages, the unit’s verified social accounts, SMTOWN uploads and release links. Then use reputable reporting for context. Fan translations can help with speed, but the original notice should remain the receipt.

What not to flatten

Nationality, language and market are related, but they are not interchangeable. A Japanese release is not automatically a separate identity; a Mandarin catalog is not a side note; a Korean comeback does not cancel international work. Follow the release credits and the unit’s official schedule instead of forcing every activity into one-country shorthand.

RaeRae verdict

NCT and the wider NCT system rewards patient sorting. Once the current roster, fixed units, rotating credits and solo lanes are separated, the supposedly impossible chart becomes a set of understandable creative choices. The chaos is real, but most of the confusion comes from coverage that refuses to label its boxes.

The current map in 2026

NCT is the umbrella, not one fixed twenty-something-member band. The current map contains NCT 127, NCT DREAM, WayV and NCT WISH as fixed units, plus NCT U as a song-by-song rotating credit. The wider NCT brand can stage all-project releases and concerts, but those events do not dissolve the permanent unit records.

Mark’s April 2026 departure changed two fixed units and the all-brand history at once. NCT 127 continues with seven members; NCT DREAM continues with six. His voice and image remain attached to every earlier work he made. A current roster and a historical credit answer different questions, and the directory preserves both.

NCT 127: Seoul is the base, not the boundary

NCT 127 takes its number from Seoul’s longitude and builds the brand’s most abrasive fixed-unit catalog. Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo and Haechan are the current seven. Military service changes availability; solo work changes scheduling; neither changes membership without an official notice.

The unit hub holds its exact Korean and Japanese releases, tours, member routes and current-status receipts. Mark and Taeil remain historical participants. NCT 127 cards never use the entire NCT roster as if every member recorded “Sticker” or “Kick It.”

NCT DREAM: graduation ended, history did not

NCT DREAM began with a graduation concept and eventually became a fixed unit. After Mark’s departure from NCT in 2026, DREAM continues as Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle and Jisung. The seven-member catalog remains seven-member history; current promotion is six.

Haechan’s dual membership in DREAM and 127 is permanent unit structure, not a collaboration. A schedule may include one unit and not the other. The hub tracks the credited release rather than using a member’s presence to merge two catalogs.

WayV: a fixed Chinese unit, not an NCT U playlist

WayV is NCT’s China-based fixed unit, with Kun, Ten, Winwin, Xiaojun, Hendery and Yangyang in its current membership record. Its Mandarin, English, Korean and Japanese work belongs to one unit catalog. Language changes and market routes do not make the group temporary.

Member solos—especially Ten’s substantial artist branch—connect back to WayV without becoming group releases. Winwin’s schedule availability is likewise separate from membership. Exact video credits control the tracker, not assumptions based on a promotional photograph.

NCT WISH: the final announced expansion

NCT WISH formed through NCT Universe: LASTART and debuted with Sion, Riku, Yushi, Jaehee, Ryo and Sakuya. The unit’s Japan–Korea route and youthful “WISH for Our WISH” identity deserve a full fixed-group record rather than an appendix attached to older NCT units.

SM described WISH as the final NCT team, which closes the open-ended expansion promise without erasing NCT U’s rotating combinations. The unit still earns its own exact videos, member profiles and current-status evidence. “New NCT unit” is formation context, not a permanent genre.

NCT U is a credit, not a permanent roster

NCT U assembles members for a particular song. “The 7th Sense,” “BOSS,” “Make a Wish,” “90’s Love,” “Baggy Jeans” and later tracks use different lineups because the unit is designed around the record. A person can be an NCT member and never appear on a specific NCT U release.

The tracker therefore stores the exact credited performers on every U video. It does not publish one permanent “NCT U members” list and let it mislabel the catalog. Former members remain credited on songs they made, while current status comes from the dated umbrella and fixed-unit notices.

All-project albums are snapshots

Empathy, Resonance, Universe, Golden Age and the 2026 all-project cycle capture the brand at particular dates. They are not timeless master rosters. Every album needs its own participating-member record because departures, debuts and absences change the available combinations.

An all-project title may include unit songs, NCT U combinations and full-brand staging in one package. The archive separates those credit types before creating cards. That is slower than assigning every track to “NCT,” but it is the only method that lets a reader find the people who actually performed it.

Fandom file: NCTzen and Czennie

NCTzen is the official umbrella fandom name, with “Czennie” widely used by the members. Unit memberships such as NCTzen 127 and regional fan-club branches sit inside that wider identity. The shared neo pearl champagne color links the brand visually, but it does not remove unit-specific schedules or credits.

NCTzen has spent years translating a system that companies often explain less clearly than fans do. This hub uses official notices as the status record, then routes readers to the relevant unit. A viral roster graphic can help discovery; it cannot outrank a dated contract, departure or debut notice.

Former-member history needs names and dates

NCT’s former-member record includes departures that happened for very different reasons. Shotaro and Sungchan left the NCT system before debuting in RIIZE; Lucas left after a long hiatus and later pursued solo work; Taeil was removed in 2024; Mark concluded all NCT activities when his contract ended in April 2026. One vague “former members” paragraph cannot responsibly flatten those events into the same story.

The archive records the official date, the units or NCT U songs each person actually joined, and the current destination only when verified. It does not erase old credits as a form of punishment or keep someone in a current roster because their voice remains on a recording. Historical participation and current belonging are separate fields precisely because accountability and accuracy both matter.

Solo careers are branches, not escape rumors

Taeyong, Ten, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Yuta, Mark and other members have released substantial solo work, while acting, OSTs and collaborations create additional routes. An original solo release earns an Artist tracker tied to the same canonical human profile. A cover, dance clip or temporary unit stage does not require a duplicate artist identity.

Solo activity does not automatically threaten a fixed unit. It can change scheduling and reveal taste the group catalog could not hold, but membership changes only through an official status event. The directory connects the branches so a reader can move from “Tap” or “Nightwalker” back to the correct units without miscrediting the song to NCT.

The system is only useful when the credits stay specific

NCT’s premise promised flexibility: the right voices and performers could assemble around a song instead of forcing every release through one fixed lineup. That freedom becomes meaningless if the public record labels everything simply “NCT.” The rotating system demands more precise metadata, not less. A creative experiment and an accounting mess are not the same thing.

Every exact-video React therefore begins with four questions: which unit is credited, which people participate, when was it released, and what kind of video is it? Only then does the criticism begin. That order keeps a spectacular performance from laundering bad filing and keeps boring metadata from swallowing the reason anybody pressed play.

What NCT must prove after expansion

With NCT WISH announced as the final team and several veteran contracts reaching decisive points, the brand can no longer depend on endless expansion as its primary drama. The next stage has to prove the existing units can mature, collaborate and separate cleanly enough that listeners follow the music rather than study an organization chart.

That is a healthier artistic challenge. NCT 127 can redefine pressure as seven; DREAM can write adulthood for six; WayV can deepen its multilingual catalog; WISH can become more than the youngest unit; and NCT U can still build combinations around songs. The system succeeds when those identities become clearer together, not when complexity itself is sold as the product.

Performance films, dance practices and alternate versions remain connected but do not replace the playlist video. React dates fall on release day or within three days. A later archive repair never becomes a fictional reaction date.
