Before TWICE and the road through Sixteen

A church “eagle dance” video made Dahyun an online curiosity before she was an idol. JYP recruited her after an audition, and she trained for several years before Sixteen. On the show, she was not always treated as the strongest technical dancer or singer. What she had was immediate recognizability:the dangerous ability to make viewers remember exactly which person had just entered the frame.

Music, performance and the work outside the group box

Dahyun has written lyrics for multiple TWICE songs, including fan-favorite b-sides, while gradually opening an acting path. The variety instinct is only one part of the job

Dahyun became instantly memorable on Sixteen and early variety television because she understood timing. Dahyun made her feature-film acting debut in the Korean remake of You Are the Apple of My Eye, released in 2025 after premiering at the Busan International Film Festival. She played Sun-ah opposite Jung Jin-young. The role asked her to hold attention without using concert energy, quick jokes or the visible support system of eight members.

She followed it with Run to You, a sports drama inspired by competitive sprinting, playing Lim Ji-eun. Two film projects do not make the music history secondary. They show how an idol can open a parallel discipline after a decade of group work. Dahyun told The Korea Times that she wanted to become an actor who could offer viewers energy, comfort and hope, a goal that connects cleanly to the emotional function she already understood as a performer.

“CHESS” and the solo-song chapter

“CHESS” arrived in 2025 as Dahyun’s individual track during TWICE’s tenth-anniversary period. Built around a reference to Beethoven’s “Für Elise,” the song turns romantic strategy into a poised pop performance. Dahyun is credited as a lyricist, so the release belongs in both her writing file and her solo-performance file.

The song does not mean she has left TWICE or launched a completely separate full-album career. It means her individual catalog now contains an official release with dedicated visual material and a clearly credited creative role.
