Early life and the road into entertainment
Yeonjung entered Produce 101 representing Starship Entertainment and made herself impossible to ignore through raw vocal power. Joining the final lineup at rank eleven turned her into the last piece of I.O.I and, vocally, one of its structural supports.
Produce 101 and the original I.O.I chapter
I.O.I formed through the first season of Produce 101 and debuted on May 4, 2016. The contract was temporary by design, which meant the group learned to perform, promote, split into a seven-member unit, return as eleven, and say goodbye while the countdown clock remained visible.
Yeonjung belongs to the full eleven-member lineup: Lim Nayoung, Chungha, Kim Sejeong, Jung Chaeyeon, Zhou Jieqiong, Kim Sohye, Yoo Yeonjung, Choi Yoojung, Kang Mina, Kim Doyeon, and Jeon Somi. A promotion lineup can change. The historical membership does not.
After I.O.I: the career did not freeze in 2017
After I.O.I, she joined WJSN and expanded into musical theatre. On I.O.I: LOOP she was not only present as a vocalist; she also contributed to the album’s creative credits, showing how far the members had moved from performing songs selected entirely around them.
2026: I.O.I : LOOP and “Suddenly”
I.O.I returned for its tenth anniversary with the six-track mini album I.O.I : LOOP and the title song “Suddenly.” Nine members participated in the new recording and promotions. Mina and Jieqiong were unable to join because of prior commitments; neither was announced as having left the group.
The project matters because the members returned with adult careers, different companies, and creative credits of their own. Somi co-wrote “Suddenly,” while other members contributed elsewhere on the album. This is not eleven rookies waiting for a label to tell them who they are anymore.
Performance identity
Yeonjung sings like the bridge owes her money. The reunion works because the adult version of that voice can carry nostalgia without letting the song collapse into a scrapbook.
