The Ascendant Power Index (API)
Universal Cultivation Measurement System (1–15)
Rooted in wuxia → xianxia → Ancient Chinese mythology progression
What Is the Ascendant Power Index (API)?
The Ascendant Power Index (API) is the universal cultivation measurement system used across Ascendant Skies, Divergent Ascension, and all retellings in the Legends Universe.
It merges three major traditions into one clear progression:
Wuxia (martial arts + internal strength)
Xianxia (cultivation, qi mastery, tribulations, spiritual awakening)
Ancient Chinese mythology (immortals, bodhisattvas, heavenly generals, gods)
The result is a ranking system that feels authentic to Chinese myth, yet easy for modern readers to understand.
What the API Measures
API levels measure a being’s:
physical strength
qi cultivation
spiritual awakening
elemental affinity
Dao comprehension
resistance to tribulations
connection to Heaven (or transcendence beyond it)
Who the API Applies To
Humans (martial artists, monks, cultivators)
Spirit beasts
Demons
Immortals
Heavenly warriors
Ancient myth-level beings
Half-mortal / half-immortal bloodlines
Even Heavenly beings are graded by the API — though when they descend into the mortal realm, their power is forcibly downgraded for cosmic balance (Heavenly Descent Weakening Rule).
How the API Works
Levels move from 0 to 15, divided by major cultivation milestones:
Mortal Body (0–1)
Qi Awakening (2–3)
Internal Refinement (4–5)
Spirit-Linked (6)
Dharma Body (7–8)
Immortal Body (9–11)
Heavenly Rank (12–14)
Transcendence (15)
After Level 6, cultivators must survive the Nine Tribulations to advance through immortal ranks.
The Ascendant Power Index is the backbone of all cultivation, power scaling, and myth hierarchy stories within the CVM Sekai universe for the Ascendant Skies (Legend Retold stories) and Fractured Horizon (Divergent Ascension).
Mortal Body (凡身): Level 0 - 1
The Human Starting Point
This entire tier refers to beings without any form of spiritual development, no matter their origin. This includes regular humans, untrained youths, low-ranking soldiers, ordinary animals, and heavenly beings who have descended and been fully suppressed.
At this stage, power is defined only by:
physical conditioning
basic endurance
natural talent
access to training or weapons
diet, environment, lifestyle
There is zero spiritual capability.
Levels 0: Average Mortal (凡人)
Who qualifies?
Villagers, farmers, scholars, merchants
Children and elderly
City civilians
Noncombatant monks
Ordinary animals
Heavenly beings whose suppression is maximal, rendering them completely powerless (rare)
Bandits, peasants, and untrained youth
What they can do
Exist normally
Perform everyday tasks
Experience normal human emotions, reactions, and limits
What they CANNOT do
Sense qi
Activate meridians
Strengthen their body beyond normal human limits
Perform martial arts that require internal control
Resist supernatural forces
How this level operates
These individuals have closed meridians, meaning their bodies cannot circulate qi. Their dantian is inactive. Their minds are not attuned to spiritual presence, and their bodies cannot handle enhanced energy flow.
Why this matters
This level represents the baseline of human existence.
Every character, no matter how powerful, began here. This is the foundation for understanding how far cultivators, monks, or supernatural beings must rise to break free from mortal limitations.
People we may encounter in stories
Jun before age 5
Wei before temple training
Most villagers in the region
Politicians, merchants, landowners
Mortal realm bureaucrats
Children from the Li family before martial training begins
Spirit beasts before awakening
No tribulations apply to this stage.
Level 1: Trained Mortal / Martial Foundation (武徒)
Who qualifies?
City guards
Hired escorts and caravan protectors
Low-level soldiers
Junior temple trainees
Youths trained in weapon basics
Peasants with years of physical labor
Heavenly beings suppressed to the point where only basic physical strength remains (very rare; usually only if heavily injured or sealed)
What they can do
Handle basic combat
Use weapons effectively (spears, swords, staves, bows)
Take more hits than the average mortal
Move with better posture and muscle memory
Maintain discipline, breath rhythm, and resolve in battle
What they CANNOT do
Generate qi
Strengthen their muscles, bones, or senses with internal energy
Sense emotions, malice, illusions, spirits, or pressure
Block supernatural attacks
Resist elemental effects
How this level operates
These individuals do not cultivate, but they possess:
Stronger tendons
Tougher bones
Better lung capacity
Higher pain tolerance
Basic combat intuition
This is the minimum entry requirement for joining structured martial systems like:
the temple
local security forces
Li family’s outer guards
militia groups
Why this matters
Level 1 is where combat begins to matter. A Level 1 fighter CAN defeat several Level 0 mortals. But they remain fully mortal, capped by their biology.
This level establishes the boundary between:
normal people
people who have tasted combat
People we may encounter in stories
City guards that greet Jun and Wei
Hired escorts protecting caravans
Outer temple trainees
Li family external soldiers
Heaven soldiers downgraded by realm suppression to the absolute minimum (extreme cases only)
No tribulations apply to this stage.
Qi Awakening (初觉): Level 2 - 3
The First Stirring of Spiritual Potential
This tier marks the transition from ordinary mortal to an individual with the capacity to cultivate. It is the beginning of wuxia-level internal strength and the foundation for all higher realms. This stage includes:
Qi sensing
Early meridian activity
Breath-mind unification
Basic spiritual awareness
The very first energy circulation
At this level, the body is still fully human, but is beginning to operate beyond normal biological limits.
Level 2: Qi Initiate (初觉)
Who qualifies?
Children who begin formal martial or monastic training (often age ~5–7)
New recruits in temples or sects
The Li family’s youngest martial heirs
Gifted individuals with innate sensitivity
Spirit beasts before awakening
Suppressed heavenly warriors who have lost most of their immortal essence but retain faint qi awareness
What they can do
Sense qi faintly (tingling pressure, warmth, cold, vibration)
Experience physical changes:
Slight strength increase
Slightly stronger bones
Improved breathing capacity
Longer endurance
Begin opening minor meridians
Recognize emotional intent or hostility in others (very lightly)
Sense disturbances in the environment (wind pressure shifts, animal instinct)
What they CANNOT do
Circulate qi intentionally
Form an internal qi cycle
Perform qi-based attacks or defenses
Resist poison, cold, heat, illusions, or killing intent
Use elemental abilities
How this level operates
The dantian is still inactive, but meridians begin the early phase of loosening, making qi slightly responsive.
Training at this stage emphasizes:
foundational stances
breath timing
physical discipline
emotional stability
early meditation
The mind is learning to listen to the body.
Why this matters
This level establishes whether someone can cultivate at all. Most people stop here due to lack of talent, poor training, or weak environments.
Examples in your world
Jun at age 5–6
Young temple novices
The Li family’s outer children
Most childhood martial heirs
No tribulation applies here.
Level 3: Qi Disciple (入门弟子)
The Doorway to True Wuxia Power
Who qualifies?
Intermediate temple trainees
First-year disciples in sects
Teens from the Li family with solid foundational training
Gifted mortals with good natural resonance
Heavenly beings downgraded heavily but retaining structured qi pathways
What they can do
Circulate qi through partial internal pathways
Strengthen bones and muscles slightly
Perform coordinated movement + breath (breath-mind-body unification)
Move faster than normal humans
Maintain stamina for long combat engagements
Enhance reaction speed
Receive spiritual instruction directly (guided cultivation)
Resist small-scale malice or killing intent
What they CANNOT do
Produce visible qi
Exert qi outside the body
Resist strong illusions or mental attacks
Influence other people’s qi
Break physical limits dramatically
How this level operates
Qi circulation is stable but shallow. The body begins adapting to internal force. Training now introduces:
body strengthening routines
complex martial forms
initiation into meditation
light weapon imprinting
emotional control techniques
This is the level where “martial arts become real.”
Why this matters
This level creates the baseline fighter for all forms of wuxia, sects, monks, temple warriors, and martial families. Without reaching this level, no one can progress to true cultivation.
Examples in your world
Jun at age 8–9
Wei at age ~9–10
Intermediate temple disciples
Outer Li family guards
Spirit beasts beginning to awaken (pre-awakening stage)
No tribulation applies here.
Internal Refinement (内炼): Level 4 - 5
Peak Mortal Mastery — the highest possible strength before supernatural abilities begin.
At this tier:
qi circulation is complete and stable
the meridian network is fully opened but not yet transformed
the body is enhanced by internal energy
movements become superhuman but not supernatural
elemental abilities DO NOT appear yet
the person still ages normally, though slightly slower
This stage represents the zenith of “pure martial arts” without stepping into xianxia.
It is the level that legendary wuxia heroes, elite temple warriors, and world-class martial talents reach through training, discipline, and internal cultivation.
Level 4: Martial Talents (武才)
Advanced internal qi control, explosive combat power, elite human mastery.
Who qualifies?
Jun (age 12–14)
Wei (age 16)
Li family’s promising young heirs
Mid-tier temple warriors
Elite soldiers trained in qi arts
Suppressed heavenly warriors (standard foot soldiers)
Spirit beasts beginning their awakening phase
Talented martial students in the mortal world
What they can do
At Level 4, the fighter develops true wuxia capabilities, including:
1. Small-Scale Qi Projection (shockwaves)
Punches and kicks produce pressure blasts
Movements generate force beyond physical contact
Footwork creates minor gusts of wind
Weapons cut with “qi sharpness” even without touching the target
This is NOT magic. It is raw internal force made visible.
2. Enhanced Physical Strength
Can lift several times their body weight
Can sprint long distances without fatigue
Can shatter stone with focused strikes
3. Superior Sensory Perception
Hear heartbeats
Sense killing intent
React faster than trained soldiers
Track movements in low light
4. Combat Skill & Precision
Can defeat multiple fighters at once
Movements are clean and efficient
Weapons feel like extensions of their body
Breath–mind–movement coordination reaches mastery
What they CANNOT do
No elemental affinity
No full-body qi enhancement
No aura manifestation
No spiritual interaction
Cannot see illusions or spirits
Cannot survive lethal injuries
How this level operates
Qi flows through the 12 major meridians, stabilizing the body.
Training emphasizes:
explosive power
footwork refinement
qi compression
body tempering
precision of breath
This is often the level where martial geniuses are identified.
Why this matters
This is the level of legends in wuxia stories:
unbeatable swordsmen
temple champions
young heroes destined for greatness
It is also the level where a mortal can fight (and defeat) downgraded heaven warriors.
Level 5: Martial Specialists (武师) / Peak Mortal (武圣)
The absolute limit of human martial cultivation before stepping into the supernatural.
Who qualifies?
Master Li (API 5 → later 6)
Elite temple masters
Li family elders
Top sect disciples
Veteran martial arts commanders
Suppressed heaven warriors (elite captains)
Older spirit beasts preparing to awaken
Once-in-a-generation martial talents
What they can do
1. Full Body Qi Flow
Qi spreads evenly through the:
meridians
bones
muscles
organs
tendons
This massively enhances the body’s durability and strength.
2. Peak Mortality Combat Power
Shatter boulders with palm strikes
Jump rooftops with ease
Move faster than arrows in short bursts
Endure extreme heat or cold
Resist poison and exhaustion
Fight for hours without slowing
3. External Pressure Aura (not yet spiritual)
Not spiritual aura — but:
killing intent
battle pressure
qi intensity
This makes weaker enemies hesitate or freeze.
4. Weapon Mastery
At this stage:
sword trails carry qi
polearms feel weightless
archers shoot with supernatural precision
spear and staff techniques can break defenses easily
5. Mental Discipline
These individuals have near-unbreakable:
focus
fear control
battlefield awareness
emotional stability
What they CANNOT do
No true spiritual abilities
Cannot perceive illusions
Cannot communicate with spirits
Cannot use elemental qi
Cannot manifest spiritual aura
This level is still 100% mortal.
How this level operates
Level 5 requires years of:
body tempering
qi compression cycles
tendon reinforcement
deep meditation
emotional refinement
It is the “final form” of a purely physical cultivator. Any further advancement requires a supernatural breakthrough (Level 6).
Why this matters
Level 5 creates a clear boundary:
Below Level 5 → Martial Mortal
Above Level 5 → Supernatural Cultivator
This is why:
Master Li is respected by villages
Temple masters command authority
Heaven’s warriors treat them seriously
The Li family is feared and revered
This is the power ceiling for normal humans before the world starts to bend around them.
Spirit-Linked (通灵): Level 6
The Awakening of Spirit, Sense, and Supernatural Qi
This is the first truly supernatural tier in the Ascendant Power Index. At Level 6, the cultivator’s qi breaks past the limitations of the physical body and begins to influence the world around them.
This level includes:
- supernatural perception
- aura manifestation
- early elemental affinity
- spiritual senses
- extension of qi beyond the body
- beginning of longevity extension
- massive leap in combat power
It is the gateway to all higher cultivation and the minimum requirement for entering the tribulation path.
Level 6: Spirit-Awakened (通灵境)
Who qualifies?
Humans / Cultivators
High-ranking temple masters (ex: Master Shen)
Elite Li family members (Lady Li, Master Rong)
Rare geniuses from sects and clans
Martial prodigies who have surpassed the mortal ceiling
Humans with partial immortal blood (they awaken faster)
Heavenly Warriors (after suppression)
Heaven warriors of real API 7–9
→ suppressed to API ~5.5–6Heaven captains of real API 9–10
→ suppressed to API ~6
These beings retain:
superior qi structure
immortality essence
stronger base physicality
…but are limited by mortal-realm suppression.
Spirit Beasts
This is the awakening stage:
instincts sharpen
intelligence increases
they gain their first supernatural abilities
animal instincts refine into spiritual perception
Demi-immortals / Half-immortals
Lady Li (API 7+) would have naturally passed this earlier
Ling Ling (API 5.8) is approaching this stage
Half-immortals awaken faster due to mixed blood
What they can do
1. Manifest Qi Externally (Aura & Pressure)
For the first time:
qi radiates out from the body
pressure can freeze or intimidate enemies
movement creates supernatural wind
killing intent becomes a tangible force
Enemies with weaker qi will physically tremble.
2. Sense Spirits, Illusions, and Hidden Danger
This includes:
sensing ghosts
perceiving illusions
detecting spiritual fluctuations
identifying enemies behind walls
feeling the presence of killing intent miles away
This is why temple masters and sect elders know when danger approaches.
3. Minor Elemental Affinity (Awakening Stage)
Not full mastery — just early signs.
Examples:
warmth or heat affinity (fire)
sharper hearing or lightning-like reflexes (thunder)
water movement flow, improved fluidity (water)
hardness, stability (metal)
improved plant/animal sense (wood)
This marks the beginning of one’s destiny path.
4. Longevity Increases
Human body begins shifting toward a half-spiritual physique.
slower aging
stronger vitality
lower disease likelihood
longer lifespan (120–150+ years)
5. Supernatural Physical Combat
Level 6 combat is the transition point where:
leaps span rooftops
punches create shock booms
movement leaves qi trails
weapons glow faintly with qi
A Level 6 fighter can defeat dozens of Level 4 fighters.
6. Mind and Spirit Strengthen
resistant to fear
resistant to illusions
resistant to spiritual pressure
thought becomes faster, clearer
What they CANNOT do
No full elemental strikes
No flight
No spirit separation
No reshaping natural qi flows
Cannot withstand a tribulation (yet)
Cannot break reality laws
Cannot leave the mortal realm
This is a threshold level, not mastery.
How Level 6 Works (Mechanics)
Qi Transformation Begins
Qi moves from being purely physical → to being partially spiritual. Meridians refine. Dantian compresses. Spirit and body begin merging.
The Body Becomes a Conduit
Instead of forcing qi through the body, qi now responds like an extension of will.
This allows:
supernatural perception
aura
spiritual sensing
Spirit and Mind Integration
Level 6 cultivators begin forming the proto-Dharma Body, the early stage of the Stage 7 transformation.
Why Level 6 Matters
Level 6 is the most important dividing line in the entire system:
Mortals vs Cultivators
This level cleanly separates:
Level 0–5 → enhanced humans
Level 6+ → true cultivators with supernatural abilities
Heaven Suppression Logic: Most heaven warriors, when downgraded, land between:
API 5.5
API 6
Which is why:
They cannot overpower temple masters easily
They are respected but not feared
They cannot destroy villages
They cannot fight Level 7+ experts
Spirit Beast Evolution: Most spirit beasts awaken their intelligence and supernatural form at Level 6.
Entry Requirement for Tribulations: No one can begin the Nine Tribulations before reaching Level 6.
The first tribulation: Body Tribulation …only becomes possible for someone whose qi has reached this threshold.
Tribulation Requirement for Level 7
To progress to Dharma Body (法身) / True Cultivator (Level 7), one must pass:
A lightning or spiritual storm that:
- refines the physical body
- purifies mortal impurities
- reinforces meridians
- initiates transformation into a half-spiritual form
Only cultivators with stable, awakened qi (Level 6) can attempt it.
Dharma Body (法身) / True Cultivator: Level 7 - 8
Major xianxia range.
This is the true beginning of immortality. The spirit fully awakens, the body begins to spiritualize, and cultivators step beyond the mortal limit.
This tier marks the transition from “enhanced humans” to true supernatural beings recognized by Heaven’s laws.
Who can reach this stage?
- Human cultivators who passed the Body Tribulation
- Demons/beasts who formed stable spiritual cores
- Deities who descend to the mortal realm but get downgraded to this range (Heaven suppression rule)
Legendary families with centuries of lineage (rare)
What defines this stage?
Spirit-body differentiation begins
- True Dharma manifestation (法相) becomes possible
- Elemental abilities start to become real, not just qi illusions
Qi storms, spirit-echoes, and light distortions appear around the cultivator
Body Tribulation (before Level 7)
Qi Tribulation (before Level 8)
Levels 7: Earth Immortal (地仙)
Passed the Body Tribulation.
This is the first step into immortality. “Earth” refers not to dirt, but to the fact that their immortality is grounded in the mortal realm, not Heaven.
Key Abilities at Level 7
- Basic Dharma manifestation
- Can project spirit-form shadows, partial illusions, echo-voices
- Spirit-body separation begins
- Can meditate outside the body
- Classical Daoist “Yang spirit” can temporarily leave the flesh
- True elemental abilities appear
- Fire that burns without fuel
- Wind summoned through intent
- Water condensation from qi
- Metal-strengthened skin
Wood regeneration (lifeforce manipulation)
Combat Level
Far above martial humans
Can fight large beasts and low-level demons
Can withstand environmental extremes
Who fits in this level?
Lady Li (your note is correct — Level 7 fits perfectly)
- Peak temple masters
- Minor mountain gods descending into the mortal realm (after downgrade)
Older cultivators with 80–200 years of progress
Notes for world logic
This is the level where mortals begin calling someone “Immortal.” They can influence weather locally, cure illnesses, and sense fate threads.
Level 8: Human Immortal (人仙)
Passed the Qi Tribulation.
What this level represents
The cultivator is now recognized as “Heaven-level combatant.” Their body becomes spirit-infused, blending flesh and qi into a unified immortal vessel.
This is the lowest tier of beings who can enter Heaven with qualification (though not necessarily with rank).
Key Abilities at Level 8
Elemental mastery (fire, wind, water, metal, wood)
Not just sparks — full techniques
Can fill a battlefield with fog, flame, lightning, or vines
Long-range qi projection
Sword beams
Palm strikes across distances
Shockwaves that flatten trees
Low-level flight
Leaps -> glides -> short airtime flight
Immortal constitution begins
Agelessness
Recovery from fatal wounds
Poison, cold, heat resistance
Combat Level
Can defeat armies singlehandedly
Can battle nascent demons
Can resist the divine pressure of Heaven-ranked beings for short periods
Who fits in this level?
Young prodigy immortals
Monks with 200–500 years of training
Heaven warriors downgraded into the mortal realm (often Level 4–6, but captains can descend as Level 7–8)
Minor deities who choose to incarnate into human form
Notes for world logic
This is the level where:
Flight becomes possible
Human myths portray the hero as “immortal”
Cultivators can survive the “aura” of higher-level beings
Immortal Body (仙躯): Level 9 - 11
The First True Immortal Realm — Heaven-Recognized Immortals
Immortals of this tier are recognized by Heaven, survive tribulations regularly, and possess bodies infused with qi, spirit, and elemental laws.
Level 9: Heaven Immortal (天仙)
Passed the Heart Demon Tribulation.
This is the first true immortal breakthrough. A cultivator’s inner world becomes powerful enough that their internal demons take form.
WHAT THIS LEVEL IS
Heaven Immortals sit at the lowest rung of true immortality, but they are already decades ahead of mortals in terms of power and perception.
They can:
- reshape natural qi flows
- manipulate elemental qi
- sense karmic threads
- survive catastrophic injuries
- withstand prolonged battle without fatigue
Their bodies no longer decay. They do not age normally.
WHAT THEY CAN DO
- Advanced elemental manipulation (fire, wind, water, metal, wood)
- Low-level law comprehension (gravity, pressure, weather flow)
- Natural qi sculpting — can redirect spiritual rivers and stabilize mountain veins
- Early-stage celestial awareness — can sense heavenly will and karmic ripples
- Low-level spiritual projection — illusions, fear pressure, spiritual suppression
NOTABLE BEINGS IN THIS RANGE
- Most Heaven Warriors (天兵天将) in their natural realm, but downgraded to API 4–6 in the mortal world.
- Minor immortals serving middle-tier deities
- Newly ascended cultivators
- Lesser mountain gods and river spirits
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN DESCENDING TO THE MORTAL REALM
Heaven Immortals suffer the Heavenly Descent Weakening Rule. A Level 9 descending becomes:
API 4–6 (Peak Mortal → Spirit-Linked) depending on:
- local spiritual density
- karmic pressure
- proximity to ley lines
- whether Heaven suppresses them directly
WHO REACHES THIS LEVEL
- Cultivators with firm foundations
- Strong spirit beasts
- Half-immortals with awakened bloodlines
- Rare monks or martial cultivators with immense willpower
Levels 10: Mystic Immortal (玄仙)
Passed the Soul Tribulation.
This tribulation targets the soul—memory, identity, reincarnation threads, and destiny lines.
WHAT THIS LEVEL IS
This is the stage where:
body and spirit both become immortalized
the cultivator gains a True Immortal Soul
Heavenly weapons begin responding to them naturally
Their existence becomes partially recorded in Heaven’s Ledger
Their qi, spirit, and dao begin merging into something purer.
WHAT THEY CAN DO
Heaven-level combat
Heavenly weapon resonance (weapons fly to them, obey their intent)
Soul manifestation (spirit projection that can travel independently)
Law shaping — storms, pressure, mountain-force, space tension
Higher elemental fusion (e.g., storm, magma, metal-lightning)
Spiritual domain — their aura becomes a physical battlefield
NOTABLE BEINGS IN THIS RANGE
Elite Heaven Marshals
Strong celestial guards protecting deities
Older immortals with stable foundations
Some star spirits, mountain spirits, river gods
DOWNGRADED FORM WHEN DESCENDING
API 10 (玄仙) descending becomes –> API 5–6 (maximum Spirit-Linked due to suppression)
They cannot manifest their full elemental mastery or law-shaping.
WHO REACHES THIS LEVEL
True cultivators with deep karma
Spirit beasts of great age (thousand years+)
Immortals who survived centuries of trials
This level is extremely rare in the mortal realm.
Level 11: Golden Immortal (金仙)
Passed the Five Elements Tribulation.
This is one of the most violent tribulations—pure manifestations of metal, wood, water, fire, earth—testing the harmony of the cultivator’s internal dao.
WHAT THIS LEVEL IS
Golden Immortals are elite celestial warriors, legendary powerhouses capable of altering the natural world.
They can:
fight armies alone
split mountains
ignite seas
freeze storms
suppress demons
command celestial forces
Their bodies are so condensed with immortal qi that they glow faintly under moonlight.
WHAT THEY CAN DO
Full elemental mastery
Large-scale law bending
Flight without propulsion
Immortal regeneration (restore limbs, organs, qi shells)
Heaven-tier martial force
Karmic manipulation (can sever past karma or alter fate paths)
Immortal senses (can hear across miles, sense intent, detect spirits)
NOTABLE BEINGS IN THIS RANGE
Heaven Generals
Top-tier celestial guardians
Elite disciples of major deities
Senior immortals who’ve served Heaven for millennia
Sun Wukong BEFORE stealing treasures sits at about Level 7–8, but AFTER peaches, pills, gourd water, and furnace, he spikes to API 11–12.
DOWNGRADED FORM WHEN DESCENDING
Golden Immortals descending become –> API 6 (Spirit-Linked ceiling)
Heaven does NOT allow true Heaven-level manifestations in the mortal world. Their aura alone would:
awaken beasts
distort fate threads
cause karmic backlash
warp qi rivers
invite tribulations prematurely
WHO REACHES THIS LEVEL
Very few cultivators
Divine-blood beings
Celestial commanders
Legendary immortals with perfect foundations
This tier marks the absolute ceiling before entering god/Heaven rank.
Heavenly Rank (天位): Level 12 - 14
Where god-tier beings, Heaven-backed cultivators, and bodhisattvas reside.
At these levels, Dao becomes part of the body. Their presence changes weather, qi flow, karma, and fate itself.
Only beings who have survived multiple upper tribulations (Thunder → Fate → Dao Heart) can enter this rank.
When descending into the mortal realm → automatic downgrading occurs (links to Heavenly Descent Weakening Rule). They typically arrive around Levels 5–7 to avoid cosmic disturbance.
Level 12: Heavenly Official (天官境)
Passed the Heavenly Thunder Tribulation.
Domain: Authority → Command → Regulation of Heaven’s Will
Combat Class: High celestial officer; elite but not king-class.
Who resides here
- Jade Court officials
- Heavenly inspectors of weather, seasons, justice, or celestial records
- Some powerful ancient cultivators who ascended early
- A few lesser gods or devas from Buddhist cosmology
- Daoist celestial bureaucrats
Main Abilities
- Heaven-backed qi: Their power is directly supported by Heaven’s laws.
- Thunder authority: Lingering control over lightning, storms, or sound-based qi.
- Heaven’s Seal: They carry an innate “permission slip” — Heaven recognizes their existence officially.

- Paperwork manipulation lol: They control records of karma, lifespans, spiritual contracts.
Signs of a Heavenly Official
- Golden-white aura
- Lawful qi pressure
- Changes to weather (clouds part, wind stills)
- Spontaneous chants of sutras or mantras in their presence (if Buddhist lineage)
Limitations
- Cannot rewrite fate
- Cannot create new Dao pathways

- True spirits who command entire clans or armies of celestial beings
Main Abilities
- Command over divine armies: Heavenly soldiers (天兵天将) obey them.
- Fate influence:
Can bend fate, alter outcomes, and adjust karmic debts. - Weather dominion: Storms, seasons, celestial phenomena respond.
- Law of War: Their combat strength multiplies when defending Heaven’s order.
- Territory Suppression:
Within a radius, they can lower other beings’ API by 1–2 levels.
Signs of a Heavenly King
- Royal aura that bends qi around them
- Elemental storms forming behind their silhouette
- Divine weapon manifestation (halberd, spear, drum, sword)
- Heaven-inscribed script appearing in their wake
Limitations
- Cannot override Heaven’s Decree
- Cannot rewrite the Dao or karma itself
- Cannot defy bodhisattvas
When descending, Usually forcibly reduced to API 6–7. Even then, mortals view them as terrifyingly strong.
Level 14: Bodhisattva (菩萨境)
Passed the Dao Heart Tribulation.
Domain: Compassion → Dao mastery → Cosmic authority
Combat Class: Peak divine; borderline transcendent.
Note: This is NOT only Buddhist. In cultivation terms, “Bodhisattva-tier” refers to any being who has transcended Heaven’s control but has not fully broken the cycle.
Who resides here
- Major bodhisattvas (e.g., Guanyin’s level)
- Daoist immortals who achieved near-Dao-unity
- High ancient gods
- Spirits who broke free from Heaven’s suppressive authority
Main Abilities
- Dao Mastery:
Their existence itself is a manifestation of Dao. - Karma rewriting:
Can change karmic destinies, erase sins, redirect fate paths. - Creation capability:
Can create small worlds, pocket realms, or spiritual domains. - Compassion Authority:
Able to pacify demons or spirits just by presence. - Cycle-Breaking:
They stand outside reincarnation’s rules.
Signs of a Bodhisattva-tier presence
- Space subtly warps around them
- Time may slow or stretch
- Flowers bloom or luminous particles manifest
- Demons kneel involuntarily
- Mortals feel overwhelming peace or awe
Limitations
- Bound by self-imposed virtues
- Cannot defy the Dao itself
- Avoid direct violence unless karmically required
When descending, to prevent cosmic shock: Automatically crushed to API 7–8. Even suppressed, they feel like ancient suns in human form.
Transcendence (超脱): Level 15
Passed the Ascension Tribulation — the ultimate trial. This is not a single lightning strike or storm… It is a complete dismantling and rebuilding of existence.
Only beings with absolute mastery over body, soul, qi, Dao, and karmic resonance can even attempt it.
Beyond Heaven. Beyond cycles. Beyond form.
This is the final stage of cultivation — the point where a being completely escapes the authority of Heaven, karma, reincarnation, and the Dao’s natural wheel. These are the beings who become forces of the cosmos rather than individuals within it.
Passed the Ascension Tribulation.
Beyond Heaven’s control. The Buddha level. The final stage.
What Transcendence Means
A Level 15 being no longer:
obeys Heavenly Law
participates in reincarnation
accumulates karmic debt
exists on a single plane
relies on qi flow
possesses a “lifespan”
They are cosmic principles wearing consciousness. This is the level seers, immortals, and Heavenly Kings speak about in whispers
Characteristics of a Transcendent
1. Dao-Unity:
Their body is Dao. Their existence resonates with natural law — gravity, time, cause & effect, destiny.
They don’t fight using qi. Reality itself reacts to them.
2. Infinite Spiritual Presence:
Their presence stretches beyond worlds. A piece of them may exist in the mortal realm, but their true being transcends planes.
3. Formless Power:
They can manifest as:
light
a gust of wind
a whisper
a star
a thought
Or not manifest at all.
4. No Weakening When Descending
Unlike Heaven Immortals or Bodhisattvas, (transcendents are beyond Heaven’s influence) they do not downgrade when entering the mortal realm. Heaven cannot suppress what it cannot govern. However, they rarely interfere — not out of fear, but out of wisdom. Their presence alone can distort reality.
Abilities at Level 15
Rewrite cosmic laws within limits (not to break the Dao, but to bend its local patterns)
Create or collapse minor worlds
Transcendent perception. Can see past, present, future, and karmic threads at once.
Dao Speech. Words become reality. If a transcendent declares, “Let the river flow backward,” the river obeys.
Immortality of Concept. They cannot be killed by physical, spiritual, or karmic means. Only Dao-level contradictions (e.g., another Transcendent) can oppose them.
Who Reaches Level 15?
Extremely rare. In Chinese mythology, this level includes:
Tathāgata Buddha (如来佛)
Primordial Daoist founders (太上老君 in certain depictions)
Cosmic guardians who existed before Heaven’s bureaucracy
Potentially Wukong, after Journey to the West if he continues cultivating
But in the CVM Sekai story Universe, Level 15 beings are:
Cosmic myths
World-origin characters
Ancient primordial spirits formed before Heaven itself
They are not characters you see fighting — they are forces you encounter.
Signs of a Level 15 Being
The environment bends subtly
Karma threads realign
Qi becomes still
Time’s flow warps
Mortals feel peace or terror depending on karmic resonance
Heaven’s gaze retracts rather than descends
Tribulation clouds disperse rather than gather
Heaven does NOT test beings at this stage. Those worthy of Transcendence stand above Heaven.
Interactions With Lower Levels
They do not:
join battles
dictate mortal affairs
take sides
use brute force
They may:
nudge fate
open paths
grant blessings
shelter a protagonist
stabilize or destabilize a region
Sometimes simply being near a Transcendent is enough to trigger breakthroughs in nearby cultivators or awaken dormant beasts.
Impact on Story & Worldbuilding
Transcendents serve as:
✔ Lore anchors
✔ Cosmic regulators
✔ Myth-level beings that validate the entire API ladder
✔ Invisible guardians of world balance
✔ The final ceiling of power
And they provide emotional + thematic weight:
The unreachable peak
The reminder that some paths require sacrifice
The unseen hand behind destiny
