PENTAGON group facts
PENTAGON debuted under Cube Entertainment on October 10, 2016 after Pentagon Maker. The original ten became nine when E’Dawn left in November 2018. Cube contracts began separating in 2023 without a disbandment announcement. In July 2026, the members confirmed that Yan An and Yuto would follow separate paths and that PENTAGON would move forward as seven: Jinho, Hui, Hongseok, Shinwon, Yeo One, Kino and Wooseok. The tenth-anniversary project is coordinated through Kino’s company NAKED.

Former-member map
Dawn, Yan An and Yuto are former members in the current 2026 directory. Dawn left in 2018. Yan An and Yuto were part of the nine-member history after their Cube contracts ended, then chose separate paths before the seven-member tenth-anniversary project. Those dates should not be collapsed into one departure event.

Formation through Pentagon Maker and debut
The group was assembled through Mnet’s Pentagon Maker, then debuted with the self-titled EP and “Gorilla.” Survival footage created early narratives, but the stronger long-term identity came from members writing, producing and building a catalog whose emotional range outlived the program.

The self-produced identity
Hui, Kino, Wooseok and other members accumulated credits across the catalog. “Self-produced” is not a magic purity label; it matters because melodic habits, lyrical concerns and arrangement choices recur across releases. The group became recognizable even when the concept changed completely.

Shine and the breakthrough
“Shine” became the song casual listeners know, built on a piano figure, conversational phrasing and choreography that feels like personality rather than enforcement. Its delayed commercial breakthrough is part of PENTAGON’s story: the song escaped the promotion window and kept traveling.

Naughty Boy, Sha La La and Humph
The post-2018 releases proved the group could keep whimsy without repeating “Shine.” “Naughty Boy” uses a folktale-coded frog idea, “Sha La La” brings frustration into a harder attack, and “Humph!” turns boundaries into buoyant pop. Variety is held together by melodic character.

Road to Kingdom and Basquiat
Road to Kingdom made the performance scale larger and the emotional stakes more explicit. “Basquiat” gave PENTAGON a confrontational anthem without erasing the vocal architecture that separates them from groups using intensity as the entire composition.

Daisy and emotional clarity
“Daisy” is one of the cleanest examples of PENTAGON turning hurt into structure. The chorus grows without becoming anonymous, the vocal handoffs preserve individual color, and the anger stays melodic. It is a useful entry point for listeners who only know the bright singles.

Military service and staggered activity
Enlistments interrupted full-group activity across different years rather than creating one neat hiatus. The archive dates each absence and return instead of treating every smaller stage as evidence of a lineup change. Shinwon’s completed service is especially relevant to the 2026 seven-member return.

The 2023 Cube contract split
Yeo One, Yan An, Yuto, Kino and Wooseok did not renew with Cube in October 2023; Hongseok later ended his contract. The company explicitly said PENTAGON was not disbanding. Contract geography became complicated, but the group identity continued through anniversary communication and member cooperation.

Why seven in 2026
The tenth-anniversary project moved forward with seven after discussions with Yan An and Yuto, who chose separate paths. That makes the seven-person photo current, not a crop pretending two men never existed. Historical releases remain labeled for the lineup that recorded them.

NAKED and group infrastructure
Kino’s NAKED coordinates the 2026 project, turning an individual company into practical group infrastructure. That is the interesting industry story: PENTAGON’s continuation depends less on one legacy contract and more on members organizing across separate careers.

The fandom
UNIVERSE is the fandom name, built around the line that fans are PENTAGON’s universe. The navy color and long-running fan language remain meaningful across company changes. Continuity is carried socially as much as through whichever logo sits on a release footer.

International fan guide
Follow official PENTAGON accounts, member companies and dated project notices. Old Cube pages remain useful archives but cannot prove current individual management. International fans need exact dates because “left Cube,” “left group,” “inactive,” and “former member” are four different claims.

RaeRae take
PENTAGON’s tenth-anniversary achievement is not simply surviving. It is learning how to become their own administrative department without making the music sound like a board meeting. Seven men found a route back; the archive can celebrate that without airbrushing the three who took other exits.

What to watch next
The anniversary release will show how seven voices redistribute a catalog built across ten- and nine-member eras. Watch credits, arrangement changes, tour set lists and whether NAKED can give international fans a coherent home for schedules that individual agencies publish separately.

Seven is a decision, not a headcount accident
PENTAGON’s post-Cube years were full of technically true statements that did not answer the question fans were actually asking. Several contracts ended in 2023. Members signed with different companies. Military service kept rearranging who could stand together. None of that automatically defined the group’s future. The July 2026 announcement finally did: after conversations that included Yan An and Yuto, the active group would move forward as Jinho, Hui, Hongseok, Shinwon, Yeo One, Kino and Wooseok.
That choice does not demote Yan An and Yuto from the work they made. Their former-member profiles remain linked, and every older album or image keeps its actual lineup. It does mean the current hero image and future tracker entries use seven unless a project explicitly says otherwise. A clean present-tense roster is kinder than years of “maybe nine” built from wishful punctuation.
NAKED is functioning as group infrastructure
Kino founded NAKED for his own independent career, but the tenth-anniversary project expanded what that company could mean. Coordinating PENTAGON through a member-built operation is not the same as signing every member to one exclusive agency. It is a practical center: schedules, creative planning, a dedicated anniversary site and the administrative work required to put seven separate careers into one release and tour.
That labor should not be romanticized into “the members can do everything themselves.” Independent infrastructure costs money and time. Kino’s company needs cooperation from the other agencies, rights holders, distributors, venues and staff. The achievement is not escaping all institutions. It is building enough shared machinery that PENTAGON activity no longer depends on every member returning to the same old contract.
The self-produced label has musical receipts
Hui, Wooseok and Kino are central to PENTAGON’s writing and production identity, but authorship is distributed more widely than a three-name slogan. The catalog moves between bright pop, bruised rock, theatrical performance and songs that sound like somebody left a diary open beside the console. “Shine” became the public breakthrough because its awkward joy was precise, not because the group accidentally discovered a dance challenge.
“Naughty Boy” followed success with a frog, a Korean folktale reference and a groove that refused to panic. “Daisy” turned post-breakup anger into one of their cleanest emotional structures. “Basquiat” used competition-show scale without letting the concept swallow the members. The common thread is not genre. It is the sense that PENTAGON songs know which voices and bodies will have to live inside them.
Shine was a breakthrough and a trap
Every group wants a recognizable hit until the hit becomes the only question in every interview. “Shine” deserves its long life: the piano bounce, self-deprecating charm and instantly readable choreography made it unusually portable. The trap is judging everything after it by whether lightning struck in the identical place. PENTAGON’s later catalog is more interesting when allowed to be angrier, stranger, heavier or less immediately cute.
The tenth-anniversary stage can celebrate “Shine” without turning seven adults into a nostalgia exhibit. A reunion project earns its future by pairing the song everybody knows with new material that explains why the group still needs to exist. Familiar choreography brings people through the door. It should not be the only furniture inside.
The member network survived because it became practical
“We still talk” is comforting but not sufficient infrastructure. The linked editorial about Yeo One joining Jinho and Wooseok at S27M shows what practical continuity can look like: shared management routes reduce the friction around schedules, recordings and appearances. Other members maintain their own agencies and solo priorities. The group works when those separate paths include concrete points of reconnection.
Jinho’s vocal work, Hui’s writing and solo catalog, Hongseok’s acting, Shinwon’s acting direction, Yeo One’s stage and screen work, Kino’s company, and Wooseok’s production career are not detours from PENTAGON. They are the current resources of PENTAGON. The challenge is arranging them so a group comeback sounds like seven developed artists meeting again, not seven paused careers temporarily wearing the old logo.
Universe fandom file
PENTAGON’s fandom is Universe, a name built from the line that fans are the group’s universe. It survived enlistments, departures, contract fragmentation and years without a conventional comeback. The anniversary project needs to reward that endurance with clear information, not another scavenger hunt across seven agency accounts.
The dedicated anniversary site is a strong start because it restores one address for schedules, member posts, fanchants and project updates. For the archive here, official uploads still get tracked by exact video ID. A new management route does not erase Cube-era videos, and a solo release featuring a member does not become a PENTAGON group track by proximity.
What the tenth-anniversary release has to prove
The project has already proven that seven members can organize. The music has to prove they have more to say together. The best outcome would not imitate 2018 or bury the complicated years under reunion confetti. PENTAGON now have material about institutions, separation, military time, independent work and the effort required to choose one another after contracts stop making the choice automatic.
My standard is simple: let the new song sound written for these seven people now. Give Jinho and Hui room to sing like veterans, let Wooseok and Kino’s production instincts challenge each other, use Hongseok, Shinwon and Yeo One as developed performers, and keep the awkward warmth that made PENTAGON human even when the concept was enormous. Ten years is context. It cannot be the entire chorus.
RaeRae Reacts and reporting
A reunion is work before it is a photograph
The Hanteo stage mattered because the members had not occupied one public frame in years, but a performance is still easier than a durable schedule. Rehearsals can be cleared for one night; a release requires writing, recording, rights, distribution, visual production and promotion across several agencies. The seven-member announcement becomes credible because the anniversary project includes a new song, tour plans and a working information hub rather than stopping at a group selfie.
That difference also shapes how the site files coverage. The award-show return belongs to the reunion timeline. The official seven-member project governs the current roster. Yan An and Yuto’s earlier recordings stay in the catalog, while new images and cards show only the members who participated. Dawn’s history remains attached to the debut and early self-production story without turning every current article into a referendum on 2018.
PENTAGON have spent years proving that affection survived. The 2026 project has to prove that affection can operate: decisions made, files delivered, stages rehearsed and music released. That is less romantic than “family forever,” and much more useful.
