NewJeans

NewJeans changed the temperature of fourth-generation K-pop by making restraint feel enormous. Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein debuted without the usual weeks of explanation, led with “Attention,” and built a catalogue where a clipped drum pattern, a conversational hook or one perfectly timed silence could carry more identity than a wall of expensive noise. This archive keeps that musical achievement visible while documenting the group’s later legal and lineup changes with dates instead of gossip.
RaeRae take
The trick was never that NewJeans sounded “simple.” The trick was how much craft they hid inside music that breathed. Their best records trust rhythm, tone and repetition enough to stop shouting for validation. The visual world does the same thing: familiar clothes, strange little narrative turns and choreography that feels social before it feels ceremonial.
Current status snapshot
Public group presentation in July 2026: Minji, Hanni, Haerin and Hyein appeared together in official fourth-anniversary video and photo material. ADOR had confirmed the returns of Hanni, Haerin and Hyein; reporting at the time said Minji’s agency status had not yet been formally resolved. Danielle’s ADOR contract was terminated on December 29, 2025, and she is identified here as a former member. This snapshot is dated because the situation can change.

The surprise debut
ADOR released the “Attention” music video on July 22, 2022 before giving the public a conventional member-by-member promotional runway. “Hype Boy,” “Hurt” and “Cookie” followed as a connected opening statement rather than one single carrying three anonymous album tracks.
RaeRae note: That rollout worked because the songs were strong enough to make curiosity do the advertising.
Attention
“Attention” opens the catalogue with elastic bass, light percussion and vocals that sound close enough to touch. Its hook repeats without becoming blunt, while the video lets friendship, movement and observation replace an overexplained fantasy universe.
RaeRae note: A debut this quiet has to be confident; hesitation would have made it disappear.
Hype Boy
“Hype Boy” splits its visual narrative across member-centered versions while keeping one instantly recognizable song at the center. The arrangement borrows from club music and contemporary R&B without reducing either to a costume.
RaeRae note: The multiple videos invite replay because perspective changes, not because the archive is hiding one complete file behind four clicks.
Cookie and the criticism it required
“Cookie” is musically sleek and rhythmically precise, but its suggestive English wordplay drew justified concern because several members were minors. ADOR disputed that reading; listeners did not imagine the broader cultural associations of the lyric.
RaeRae note: Liking production never requires pretending context vanished. A responsible profile can hold admiration and criticism in the same paragraph.
Hurt
“Hurt” removes most of the debut’s motion and lets close vocal texture lead. The minimal arrangement makes breath, phrasing and small differences between five voices audible.
RaeRae note: It is the song that proves the group concept did not depend on choreography doing emotional labor for the recording.
Ditto
“Ditto” arrived in December 2022 with two film-like videos directed by Shin Woo-seok. Ban Hee-soo’s camera, the school setting and the distance between fan and performer turn nostalgia into something uneasy rather than merely pretty.
RaeRae note: The song feels warm until the images make you notice how memory edits everybody who once stood inside it.
OMG
“OMG” pairs a buoyant R&B-pop record with a self-referential video about identity, performance, interpretation and institutional control. Its humor makes the darker turns land without requiring a lecture in the middle of the chorus.
RaeRae note: NewJeans videos are strongest when the concept changes how the song feels instead of decorating what listeners already understood.
Zero and commercial pop
The Coca-Cola collaboration “Zero” is openly advertising, complete with a brand-name refrain. Its drum-and-bass motion and sticky structure still make it part of the musical catalogue worth documenting.
RaeRae note: Corporate purpose is metadata, not an automatic verdict. The ear can recognize a jingle and a sharp pop construction at the same time.
Get Up as a compact system
The 2023 EP “Get Up” is brief enough to feel almost rude, but its six tracks form a tightly sequenced system: “New Jeans,” “Super Shy,” “ETA,” “Cool With You,” the title interlude and “ASAP.”
RaeRae note: The runtime invites repeat listening while also raising a fair question about when efficiency becomes underfeeding the audience.
Super Shy
Jersey club rhythm gives “Super Shy” its restless feet while the melody stays light and direct. Mass choreography in public spaces expands the group’s social energy without turning every dancer into anonymous scenery.
RaeRae note: The record is shy only in its lyric; the production walks into the street with a speaker.
ETA
“ETA” pushes harder through chopped horns and fast club percussion. The Apple-shot video follows a relationship warning through phones, roads and partial information, making the camera itself part of how panic travels.
RaeRae note: Its urgency comes from friends trying to reach somebody before certainty does.
Cool With You
“Cool With You” uses UK garage-inflected rhythm, restrained vocals and a two-part visual starring Jung Ho-yeon and Tony Leung. The mythic love story makes observation, desire and consequence feel larger without overwhelming the song.
RaeRae note: Celebrity casting works here because the actors serve the emotional architecture rather than arriving as expensive punctuation.
ASAP
“ASAP” is small, circular and dreamlike, closing the EP without delivering a traditional climax. Ticking sounds and repeated phrases make waiting feel like the subject and the structure.
RaeRae note: Not every ending needs fireworks. Sometimes the unresolved notification is the point.
GODS
Riot Games’ “GODS” places all five 2023 members inside a scale far larger and darker than their early catalogue. The Worlds anthem follows Deft’s esports career while NewJeans carries an arena-sized chorus.
RaeRae note: It belongs on this hub and on the separate GODS project hub because collaboration should create more routes, not erase one side’s authorship.
How Sweet
The 2024 single “How Sweet” leans into Miami bass and clean rhythmic space. It keeps the group’s preference for repetition but gives the low end a heavier physical role.
RaeRae note: The sweetness is in the glide; the drums are doing the actual boundary-setting.
Bubble Gum
“Bubble Gum” floats through soft pop, city-pop color and an easy seasonal video. Its apparent effortlessness depends on arrangement discipline: nothing barges in merely to prove the budget exists.
RaeRae note: A breeze is still engineered. You can hear the decisions in what the producers leave alone.
Supernatural
The Japanese debut “Supernatural” draws from new jack swing and an interpolation of Manami’s “Back of My Mind.” Korean, Japanese and English circulate without making the track feel like three market versions stitched together.
RaeRae note: The groove gives the language changes one shared body.
Right Now
“Right Now” pairs a light rhythmic track with a playful animated visual world and a collaboration with Takashi Murakami. It extends the Japanese debut without simply repainting the Korean-era branding.
RaeRae note: The cute surface works because the percussion keeps moving underneath it.
Five voices, not one preset
Minji’s grounded color, Hanni’s precision, Danielle’s brightness, Haerin’s cool texture and Hyein’s lift created a blend based on proximity rather than theatrical contrast. Line distribution changed from track to track, but the records rarely treated one singer as the only possible center.
RaeRae note: Subtle differences become identities when the mix lets listeners get close enough to hear them.
Choreography as social language
NewJeans choreography often borrows the loose geometry of friends moving together: changing clusters, exchanged glances, running patterns and gestures that remain readable outside a stage. The difficulty hides inside timing and formation changes.
RaeRae note: Natural-looking movement is not the absence of technique. It is technique refusing to announce every invoice.
Styling and the Y2K label
The group’s early styling revived loose denim, fitted tees, sportswear, school-age accessories and late-1990s or early-2000s graphic language. Calling everything “Y2K” is convenient but incomplete; the visual team also drew from contemporary streetwear and specific youth subcultures.
RaeRae note: A mood board is not history. Credit gets clearer when references are named more precisely than “nostalgia.”
The bunny identity
The rabbit logo and Bunnies fandom gave the project an adaptable symbol that could become plush, illustration, merchandise or web graphic without requiring the members’ faces on everything.
RaeRae note: A good pop symbol creates recognition at postage-stamp size and room for artists to keep mutating it.
Official video tracker: music videos as primary files
NewJeans releases often use multiple official videos, performance versions or narrative sides. This archive treats every exact YouTube upload as its own file rather than merging views and criticism under a song title.
RaeRae note: A song can remain the same recording while a different edit changes what viewers are being asked to notice.
Release dates and React dates
CVM Sekai Reacts are dated one to three days after the exact official video release. The date belongs to that upload, not the album generally and not the day an editor later finished database work.
RaeRae note: Correct dates keep the newest-song order honest and stop a restoration project from looking like a robot published forty opinions at breakfast.
ADOR and creative authorship
ADOR developed and managed NewJeans, while producers, songwriters, directors, choreographers, stylists and designers built individual files. Min Hee-jin’s executive and creative role was significant, but no catalogue this detailed is the work of one person.
RaeRae note: Auteur shorthand is useful until it starts making everybody else disappear.
The 2024 dispute begins
Conflict between HYBE and then-ADOR chief executive Min Hee-jin escalated publicly in 2024. Corporate accusations, press conferences, management changes and member statements quickly became inseparable from coverage of the music.
RaeRae note: A group profile should explain the timeline without turning allegations into personality astrology.
The members announce termination
In November 2024, the five members said they considered their exclusive contracts terminated, arguing that ADOR had failed its obligations. ADOR maintained the contracts remained valid and sought court confirmation.
RaeRae note: “They announced” and “a court later agreed” are different statements; only the first was true at that moment.
NJZ and independent activity
During the dispute, the members used the name NJZ for planned independent activity. That name records a real chapter, but it did not retroactively replace NewJeans across the earlier catalogue.
RaeRae note: Archive labels should preserve chronology instead of letting the newest headline rename three years of files.
The injunction
A Seoul court granted an injunction restricting independent entertainment activity while the contract case continued. The group performed at ComplexCon Hong Kong in March 2025 and announced a pause.
RaeRae note: Legal constraint is not creative failure, and a performance is not proof that a contract question has resolved itself.
The October 2025 ruling
On October 30, 2025, the Seoul Central District Court ruled that the exclusive contracts with ADOR were valid. Reporting said the court rejected the argument that Min Hee-jin’s removal itself established a contractual breach sufficient for termination.
RaeRae note: The ruling belongs in the status file. It should not be rewritten as a moral verdict on every person involved.
Returns and a changed outcome
Haerin and Hyein were first confirmed to return. Later reporting covered Hanni’s decision to remain with ADOR. The process did not produce one clean five-person reset.
RaeRae note: “The group returned” is too blunt when individual outcomes and confirmation dates were different.
Danielle becomes a former member
ADOR notified Danielle on December 29, 2025 that it had terminated her contract and said continuing together would be difficult. Subsequent litigation remains a separate developing matter.
RaeRae note: Former-member status changes the current roster; it does not remove her voice, image or labor from recordings made with five members.
Minji and the July 2026 material
Minji appeared beside Hanni, Haerin and Hyein in official fourth-anniversary content released in July 2026. Contemporary reporting described the appearance as a sign of progress while noting that her formal status had not yet been publicly confirmed.
RaeRae note: A photograph can prove presence. It cannot by itself supply the missing contract announcement.
What current lineup means here
This page uses “current public presentation” for the four women shown together in July 2026 and separately lists which returns ADOR had confirmed. That wording may feel fussy, but it prevents a live dispute from being flattened into a tidy database field.
RaeRae note: Precision is not hedging when the facts genuinely occupy different columns.
Historical credits stay historical
Every 2022–2024 master and official video keeps the five participants documented at release. Current lineup changes apply forward and to current profile labels.
RaeRae note: An archive that edits a former member out of old credits stops being an archive and becomes public-relations software.
Minors and adult responsibility
Several members debuted as minors, making lyrical choices, schedules, styling, privacy and protection adult responsibilities around them. Criticism should point upward toward decision-makers rather than treating young performers as the architects of every controversy.
RaeRae note: “They agreed” is not a magic phrase that dissolves unequal power.
The catalogue’s influence
After NewJeans broke through, lighter percussion, UK garage references, conversational vocal mixes and Y2K styling became much louder across K-pop marketing. Influence does not mean every later similarity is plagiarism.
RaeRae note: A trend can spread because an idea opened a door; not everyone walking through stole the hinges.
Why the songs travel
Short runtimes, direct hooks and detailed rhythm help the music cross language and platform boundaries, but the records are not merely algorithm bait. Their best moments reward headphones with tiny harmonies and percussive decisions that a short clip cannot explain.
RaeRae note: Virality may introduce the song. Texture is what survives after the challenge stops appearing.
Performance versions matter
Dance practices, performance videos, award stages and festival recordings reveal formations, live arrangement choices and camera differences hidden by narrative MVs. They receive separate Reacts when the exact upload is in scope.
RaeRae note: A fixed rehearsal camera can teach more choreography than twelve drones having an anxiety attack.
Credits before mythology
Producers including 250 and FRNK, songwriter and creative collaborators, video directors and large performance teams shaped the catalogue. Individual track credits belong on their React release files.
RaeRae note: The “NewJeans sound” is a useful phrase only if it leads readers toward the people who built each version of it.
A living archive rule
New official music, lineup announcements and court outcomes must be added with source dates. Older paragraphs should not be silently rewritten to imply people knew the ending while events were unfolding.
RaeRae note: Versioned truth is less glamorous than a hot take and far more useful six months later.
Where GODS routes
“GODS” routes to NewJeans, all five 2023 vocalists and the GODS project group. Riot Games and the Worlds context remain visible rather than being reduced to a parenthetical feature credit.
RaeRae note: One collaboration can belong in several truthful places without being duplicated into several fake songs.
What comes next
Future NewJeans releases will be filed under the credited lineup and exact official upload available at release. Solo work receives artist-profile routing without converting a member’s entire group history into a solo catalogue.
RaeRae note: The database follows credits. It does not guess a comeback, reunion or departure for dramatic symmetry.
RaeRae archive verdict
NewJeans deserves more than a trend summary and more than a legal timeline. The group’s musical grammar changed what mainstream K-pop thought could command attention, and five young performers made that grammar feel human.
RaeRae note: Document the conflict accurately, then press play again. The drums still have their own argument.
