Pursuers
Naruto’s friends divide the risk by choice and with full knowledge, exposing the difference between comradeship and Danzō’s manipulation.
Bottom line
“Pursuers” exposes two operations built on controlling what grieving people believe. Danzō’s Root operatives delay Naruto’s group so Sasuke can reach Orochimaru without hearing another choice. Years earlier, Deidara destroyed a village, and Sasori planted a Flying Thunder God kunai to frame Minato and Konoha for Yahiko’s death. Nagato turned Yahiko’s body into the Deva Path and vowed to make Konoha feel his pain. Naruto, Shikamaru, Neji, Lee, and Tenten now fight through another manufactured story. They do not yet know every architect, but Shikamaru correctly reads Root’s purpose: delay matters more than victory. Lee and Tenten stay behind one by one so the others can continue. Their sacrifice is chosen, informed, and meant to preserve a friend’s agency. That distinction separates comradeship from manipulation. Both may ask someone to suffer. Only one tells the person why.
The episode puts informed sacrifice beside engineered sacrifice
Lee and Tenten remain behind because they understand the mission, the danger, and what their choice gives the people moving forward. Nagato transforms Yahiko’s body after receiving evidence designed to produce one conclusion. Sasuke walks toward Orochimaru while Root prevents him from hearing competing information.
All three stories involve pain and commitment. Only the first distributes enough truth for consent. The episode is blunt about that difference even when the action tries to distract us with gates, masks, explosions, and bodies.
Lee’s choice belongs to Lee
Naruto does not order him to become disposable. Lee sees the delay tactic and volunteers to interrupt it. His teammates understand why he stays, and the forward group uses the time rather than pretending his risk is meaningless.
That does not make self-harm automatically noble. The Fifth Gate still damages him. Agency lets us respect the choice while asking why young shinobi keep needing to spend their bodies because powerful adults built the emergency.
Tenten’s quieter stand deserves equal narrative weight
Lee receives the visual spectacle, but Tenten makes the same essential decision without a giant performance wrapped around it. She identifies the next threat, assesses what the team needs, and claims the line herself.
Support does not become more valuable because animation gives it louder effects. Tenten keeps the pursuit alive through judgment, courage, and trust that Neji will continue instead of wasting her decision by turning back.
Neji moves forward without treating teammates as tools
Leaving Lee and Tenten behind could resemble the cold calculations used by Root. The difference lives in relationship and consent. They speak, choose, and share the purpose. Neji carries the emotional cost rather than denying that cost exists.
Root agents obey hidden command while Danzō withholds the real transaction. Team Guy separates through mutual understanding. Similar battlefield shapes can hold completely different ethics.
Anko’s mask shows how institutions recycle harm
Her history with Orochimaru should position her to protect another young person from his attention. Root instead converts that history into useful proximity to the same machinery. Trauma does not automatically produce solidarity when an institution rewards obedience and seals dissent.
Naruto removing the mask matters because recognition breaks abstraction. He is not fighting a faceless obstacle. He is confronting a Leaf adult helping isolate Sasuke for the man who once marked her.
Nagato’s grief is valid even when his evidence is false
Sasori’s planted kunai does not manufacture love for Yahiko or the devastation of apparent loss. It manufactures the culprit. That distinction is why correcting disinformation requires more than sneering that somebody was fooled.
A person can reason intelligently from a corrupted evidence set and still reach a disastrous conclusion. Accountability belongs to the person who acts and to the architects who deliberately narrowed what action seemed possible.
Yahiko’s face becomes a message he never approved
Nagato preserves his friend through the Deva Path, but the preserved image now delivers a politics of imposed pain. Yahiko cannot consent to having his body turned into the emblem of revenge built on a planted story.
Love can become possessive when memory is used to authorize whatever the survivor wants. Honoring Yahiko would require protecting his values, not only keeping his face at the center of power.
Shikamaru fights the clock instead of the nearest enemy
His best move is recognizing that Root does not need victory. It needs minutes. Once he names that objective, the team stops treating each attacker like the mission and starts treating every confrontation as a cost imposed on the actual pursuit.
That is leadership. Shikamaru does not need to defeat everybody personally. He needs the right people to reach Sasuke before a manipulated decision becomes a controlled transfer.
Danzō and Sasori build choices by removing alternatives
Danzō isolates Sasuke from friends who might challenge Orochimaru’s offer. Sasori places Minato’s kunai where grief will make it persuasive. Neither villain needs total mind control. They arrange information, timing, and emotional pressure until the desired answer feels self-authored.
That is why Naruto’s pursuit matters even if Sasuke says he chose to leave. A choice deserves scrutiny when somebody attacks every route through which the chooser could receive fuller truth.
RaeRae’s verdict
“Pursuers” is packed with moving parts, but its spine is simple: truth changes the meaning of sacrifice. Lee and Tenten know why they stay. Naruto, Shikamaru, and Neji know what their friends are buying with that time. Nagato never knows Deidara caused the explosion or Sasori planted Konoha’s signature weapon. Sasuke never sees how many friends are fighting through Root to reach him. The villains do not merely cause pain. They curate what wounded people are allowed to understand about it.
Heroism does not belong only to whoever reaches the destination. Lee’s speed, Tenten’s judgment, Neji’s trust, and Shikamaru’s strategic reading all matter. Naruto can keep running because other people choose roles that will not receive the final speech. That is comradeship: shared truth, voluntary risk, and credit that does not disappear when somebody leaves the frame. Danzō offers the opposite. He hides the employer, hides the motive, hides the rescuers, and calls the remaining road Sasuke’s freedom.
Episode 445 continues Jiraiya’s alternate manuscript
Episode 445 belongs to the anime-original “Jiraiya Shinobi Handbook” story inside Tsunade’s Infinite Tsukuyomi dream. The Japanese title is “Otte,” meaning “Pursuers.” The episode aired in Japan on January 21, 2016.
The episode moves between Sasuke’s pursuit, Root’s blockade, and the hidden history that turned Nagato toward revenge.
Suna shinobi lose their target
A group from the Hidden Sand searches for someone they can no longer track. Their mission already appears compromised before an attacker reveals himself.
The lost trail sends them in the wrong direction.
Deidara attacks from above
Deidara flies overhead on a clay dragon and sends an explosive creation toward the Suna group. His altitude gives him control over timing and visibility.
The shinobi understand the threat only when escape has nearly disappeared.
The explosion kills the search team
Deidara eliminates them rather than merely stopping their pursuit. Bodies become operational debris.
His impatience will later clash with allies who see value in intact corpses.
Zetsu watches from a distance
Zetsu observes the attack and debates Deidara’s behavior between its two halves. Surveillance follows violence without mourning the dead.
Akatsuki treats the field as information and inventory.
Hidan objects to Deidara’s excess
Hidan berates Deidara for destroying too much. The objection does not come from compassion for Suna.
He is annoyed by waste and by a partner whose dramatic habits complicate shared work.
Kakuzu salvages a usable body
Kakuzu recovers one corpse that remains sufficiently intact. Death enters Akatsuki’s economy as material with future value.
The scene establishes a network willing to turn every casualty into another resource.
The Akatsuki move as an unstable coalition
Deidara, Hidan, Kakuzu, and Zetsu travel together despite incompatible tempers and motives. Shared goals hold them more firmly than personal loyalty.
Their coordination foreshadows how several plots can intersect without a single sincere bond.
Naruto fights a masked Root operative
Back on the pursuit route, Naruto battles one of the ANBU-like shinobi blocking access to Sasuke. The mask claims institutional authority while concealing personal identity.
Naruto cannot know whether he is resisting Minato’s order or Danzō’s private force until the behavior gives clues.
Naruto removes the mask
He exposes Anko beneath the Root disguise. Recognition makes the attack more disturbing.
Konoha has not sent anonymous strangers. A known Leaf shinobi is helping deliver Sasuke to Orochimaru.
Anko’s involvement carries a cruel history
Anko’s own past with Orochimaru should make her understand the cost of his attention. This alternate role places that experience inside Danzō’s chain of command.
Root can train a person to reproduce the machinery that once harmed her.
Shikamaru reads the real objective
He notices that the attackers are focused on holding them rather than resolving an official violation. Their tactics make sense only if time is the prize.
Root wants Sasuke to reach Orochimaru before his friends reach him.
Delay is enough for Danzō to win
The masked group does not need to defeat every pursuer. Each minute widens Sasuke’s lead and strengthens Orochimaru’s control over the meeting.
Shikamaru changes the plan once he understands that asymmetry.
The group stops trying to win every fight
Naruto’s team breaks from direct engagement and continues the chase. Pride cannot dictate that every enemy must fall before they move.
Mission success means reaching Sasuke, not proving superiority over Root.
Lee volunteers to hold the line
Rock Lee remains behind against one of the operatives. His choice creates time for Naruto, Shikamaru, Neji, and Tenten.
He understands the purpose and chooses the risk with friends present.
Chosen sacrifice requires information
Hizashi’s old grievance involved systems deciding who would be sacrificed. Lee makes his own decision after hearing the plan.
The danger may be similar. The agency is not.
Lee removes his weights
Dropping the training weights signals that restraint is over. He needs enough speed to prevent Root from slipping past him.
Years of disciplined repetition become immediate protection for teammates.
The Fifth Gate turns endurance into force
Lee opens the fifth of the Eight Gates. The technique grants extraordinary power while damaging the body that produces that power.
His strength has a visible price, unlike Danzō’s schemes that push costs onto other people.
Lee fights so others do not have to stop
His goal is not personal victory over the masked operative. Every second he holds the enemy keeps the forward team moving.
Support becomes strongest when the supporter releases the need to share the final scene.
The pursuit begins shedding teammates
The larger group narrows as people remain behind. Root designed the road to isolate Naruto before the meeting with Sasuke.
The friends answer by turning separation into coordinated resistance.
Kakuzu delivers the recovered bodies
Elsewhere, Kakuzu transports what the Akatsuki salvaged. The organization’s work continues through logistics as much as combat.
Bodies, intelligence, and planted evidence move between members with deliberate purpose.
Sasori halts an argument
When Deidara and Hidan clash, Sasori intervenes. His authority comes from knowledge of the group’s origins and prior operations.
The dispute opens the episode’s deeper account of the Hizashi incident.
Hidan accuses Sasori of favoring Deidara
Hidan reads Sasori’s intervention as taking sides. Sasori answers by reminding him that Deidara’s earlier work helped create the Akatsuki they now inhabit.
The organization’s foundation includes a lie built through Deidara’s explosives.
Deidara caused the village explosion
The blast that destroyed the evacuated settlement and apparently killed Yahiko did not come from Minato. Deidara carried out the attack.
Nagato’s grief was real. The assigned culprit was manufactured.
Sasori planted Konoha evidence
Sasori presented Nagato and Konan with a Flying Thunder God kunai after the destruction. The distinctive weapon pointed toward Minato and Konoha.
One recognizable object turned suspicion into certainty.
Familiar symbols can make strong lies
The kunai did not need to prove who launched the attack. The weapon only needed to match what the survivors already knew about Minato.
Effective disinformation gives grief a target before questions can catch up.
Nagato believed Yahiko died
The destroyed village and damaged teddy bear led Nagato to conclude that his friend was gone. Sasori’s planted evidence supplied the enemy.
Love, shock, and visible clues combined into a belief designed by strangers.
Yahiko’s body becomes the Deva Path
Nagato uses Yahiko’s body as the central face of his new power. The friend who pursued peace becomes the image through which pain will be delivered.
Grief preserves Yahiko’s face while abandoning his method.
Nagato vows to make Konoha understand pain
He resolves to return suffering to the village blamed for his loss. Revenge feels like communication when no honest explanation remains available.
The tragedy lies in how thoroughly the message serves the people who created the original suffering.
Konan shares the false conclusion
Konan stands beside Nagato with access to the same planted evidence and same loss. Neither receives a reason to doubt the story.
Manipulation works through an information boundary, not a lack of intelligence.
Akatsuki grows from engineered grief
Sasori’s account reveals that the organization’s current form may depend on Deidara’s attack and Konoha’s false blame. A single operation redirects years of rage.
The architects gain fighters by choosing what survivors believe about their dead.
Danzō and Sasori use the same method
Danzō keeps Sasuke from hearing his friends. Sasori keeps Nagato from learning who destroyed the village.
Both plots isolate a wounded person, control evidence, and present vengeance as self-directed choice.
Pain remains real when the story is false
Discovering manipulation would not make Yahiko’s apparent death less devastating or erase Sasuke’s humiliation. The emotions do not become fake because someone exploited them.
Accountability must include both the wound and the person who redirected the wound.
Tenten detects the next pursuer
Root operatives continue closing the distance after Lee remains behind. The blockade is layered so one sacrifice cannot free the entire group.
Tenten recognizes that another stand is necessary.
Tenten stays behind
She separates from Naruto, Neji, and Shikamaru to stall the new attacker. Her action deserves the same weight as Lee’s dramatic Fifth Gate.
Holding a line with weapons and judgment is not lesser support.
Team Guy trusts each other’s decisions
Lee and Tenten do not demand that every teammate remain together for emotional comfort. They distribute danger according to what the pursuit requires.
Trust allows separation without turning separation into abandonment.
Neji continues forward
Neji leaves his teammates fighting behind because reaching Sasuke remains the central mission. Moving on can feel cruel even when staying would waste their choice.
Honoring a sacrifice means using the time that sacrifice creates.
Orochimaru waits rather than pursues
Sasuke’s intended teacher remains at the destination while Danzō and Root clear the path. Orochimaru receives a vulnerable student through other people’s labor.
Stillness reveals who holds the advantage.
Sasuke approaches without the full truth
He does not see Lee open the Gates, Tenten hold a pursuer, or Naruto unmask Anko. His belief that Konoha has nothing left to offer goes unchallenged by evidence of care.
Danzō protects the choice by hiding its consequences.
Naruto keeps running toward a harder conversation
Every fighter left behind raises the cost of reaching Sasuke. Naruto cannot waste that cost on a speech centered only on rivalry.
He must explain why Orochimaru’s offer destroys the freedom Sasuke thinks he is claiming.
Shikamaru preserves the mission’s logic
Shikamaru repeatedly identifies when combat has become a distraction. His intelligence keeps urgency from collapsing into reaction.
The pursuit survives because someone keeps asking what the enemy actually needs.
Neji understands hidden factions
Rumors of Root help Neji explain why these attackers do not answer to Minato. Konoha contains competing authorities beneath a single symbol.
His insight turns confusion about uniforms into a political diagnosis.
The pursuers are also being pursued
Naruto’s team chases Sasuke while Root chases them. Suna chased Akatsuki before Deidara erased them. Akatsuki hunts bodies, power, and grievance.
The title refuses to assign pursuit to one heroic side.
Every chase reveals what the pursuer values
Naruto pursues a friend’s survival. Root pursues Danzō’s contract. Kakuzu pursues useful remains. Nagato pursues repayment for pain.
Movement alone carries no moral value. Purpose and method decide what the chase becomes.
The episode keeps returning to the question of informed choice. Naruto’s group knows why each friend remains behind and what delay may cost. Root hides its employer, its agreement, and its real objective. One pursuit distributes truth with the danger. The other protects power by withholding both.
Episode 445 leaves three friends moving forward
Naruto, Shikamaru, and Neji continue toward the tower while two Root operatives remain behind them. Orochimaru waits, and Sasuke’s lead is nearly gone.
Episode 446, “Collision,” must bring the competing paths together before Danzō’s controlled delivery becomes irreversible.
RaeRae’s call
Lee and Tenten choose their stands with the mission explained and friends beside them. Nagato and Sasuke act inside stories other people deliberately narrowed. That does not erase responsibility, but it changes where accountability must travel. Danzō, Sasori, and Deidara manufacture isolation, evidence, and delay. Naruto’s side answers by sharing knowledge and distributing risk. The real pursuit is not only a race toward Sasuke. It is a fight over whether he reaches Orochimaru believing nobody tried to offer another road.

What I am carrying forward
Root delayed Naruto’s pursuit while Sasuke continued toward Orochimaru. Lee and Tenten stayed behind in separate fights so Naruto, Shikamaru, and Neji could keep moving. Shikamaru identified time, not victory, as Danzō’s objective.
The Akatsuki history revealed Deidara caused the explosion blamed on Konoha and Sasori planted a Flying Thunder God kunai. Nagato turned Yahiko’s body into the Deva Path under that false conclusion. Episode 446, “Collision,” brings Naruto’s narrowing team closer to Sasuke and the people arranging his arrival.
