Before ASTRO
Kim Myung-jun trained under Fantagio after earlier auditions and nearly debuted in other configurations before ASTRO. He appeared in the pre-debut web drama To Be Continued, where the members learned the strange idol skill of playing themselves while still being introduced as characters. Being the oldest did not make him the stern one. MJ became the member most likely to turn waiting-room oxygen into a variety segment.
Music, performance and work
MJ is a main vocalist with a bright, ringing tone that keeps ASTRO’s choruses buoyant. His work extends into musical theater, where projection, timing and character have somewhere larger to live. He debuted solo with the trot-influenced “Get Set Yo,” a choice that made sense for someone whose performance energy has always included an entertainer’s direct relationship with the audience. He completed mandatory military service from 2022 to 2023 and returned to group and individual schedules without treating the hiatus as personality deletion.
