Early life and the road into entertainment
Sohye entered Produce 101 as an acting trainee with almost no idol training. Her storyline could have become a cheap “bad dancer learns confidence” montage, but her persistence and the members’ visible investment in her turned improvement itself into part of I.O.I’s emotional identity.
Produce 101 and the original I.O.I chapter
I.O.I formed through the first season of Produce 101 and debuted on May 4, 2016. The contract was temporary by design, which meant the group learned to perform, promote, split into a seven-member unit, return as eleven, and say goodbye while the countdown clock remained visible.
Sohye belongs to the full eleven-member lineup: Lim Nayoung, Chungha, Kim Sejeong, Jung Chaeyeon, Zhou Jieqiong, Kim Sohye, Yoo Yeonjung, Choi Yoojung, Kang Mina, Kim Doyeon, and Jeon Somi. A promotion lineup can change. The historical membership does not.
After I.O.I: the career did not freeze in 2017
She returned to acting after I.O.I, taking roles across television, web dramas, and film. That path makes the reunion especially satisfying: she did not have to pretend the idol route was always her permanent destination in order for I.O.I to remain part of her life.
2026: I.O.I : LOOP and “Suddenly”
I.O.I returned for its tenth anniversary with the six-track mini album I.O.I : LOOP and the title song “Suddenly.” Nine members participated in the new recording and promotions. Mina and Jieqiong were unable to join because of prior commitments; neither was announced as having left the group.
The project matters because the members returned with adult careers, different companies, and creative credits of their own. Somi co-wrote “Suddenly,” while other members contributed elsewhere on the album. This is not eleven rookies waiting for a label to tell them who they are anymore.
Performance identity
Sohye is proof that fandom memory is not built only from who hit the hardest note. Sometimes the person learning in public becomes the emotional measuring stick for the whole group.
