Mina
Kang Mina helped build the original eleven-member I.O.I. This page follows the whole career—not only the reunion clip currently eating the timeline.
Early life and the road into entertainment
Mina entered Produce 101 through Jellyfish Entertainment and became known for bright performance energy, clean dance lines, and a personality that translated easily into variety content. She ranked ninth and debuted in I.O.I before also launching with gugudan.
Produce 101 and the original I.O.I chapter
I.O.I formed through the first season of Produce 101 and debuted on May 4, 2016. The contract was temporary by design, which meant the group learned to perform, promote, split into a seven-member unit, return as eleven, and say goodbye while the countdown clock remained visible.
Mina belongs to the full eleven-member lineup: Lim Nayoung, Chungha, Kim Sejeong, Jung Chaeyeon, Zhou Jieqiong, Kim Sohye, Yoo Yeonjung, Choi Yoojung, Kang Mina, Kim Doyeon, and Jeon Somi. A promotion lineup can change. The historical membership does not.
After I.O.I: the career did not freeze in 2017
Following I.O.I and gugudan, Mina established herself as an actress across television projects. She could not participate in the 2026 LOOP recording and promotions because of prior commitments. Her voice still appears on the archival 2016 recording “Goodbye With A Smile,” which closes the album.
2026: I.O.I : LOOP and “Suddenly”
I.O.I returned for its tenth anniversary with the six-track mini album I.O.I : LOOP and the title song “Suddenly.” Nine members participated in the new recording and promotions. Mina and Jieqiong were unable to join because of prior commitments; neither was announced as having left the group.
The project matters because the members returned with adult careers, different companies, and creative credits of their own. Somi co-wrote “Suddenly,” while other members contributed elsewhere on the album. This is not eleven rookies waiting for a label to tell them who they are anymore.
Performance identity
Missing one reunion schedule does not delete ten years of membership. Mina belongs in the member list, the history, and the emotional math of the final track.
RaeRae take: Reunion coverage gets lazy when it treats every member as a before-and-after photo. The interesting story is what each woman learned elsewhere—and what becomes visible when they stand together again.
Fandom notes without rewriting history
- Fandom: U&I.
- Full membership: Eleven. Always distinguish membership from a specific promotional lineup.
- 2026 promotion: Nine members recorded and promoted most of LOOP.
- Archive track: “Goodbye With A Smile,” recorded in 2016, preserves all eleven voices.
