Why the GIRLSET chapter feels different
The most important change is not the name. It is where the members sit in the creative conversation. In their July 2026 Forbes interview, the group described a gradual shift from performing decisions made around them to helping build the decisions themselves. Kendall proposed the GIRLSET logo, the members worked in the studio on writing and harmonies, and the final chorus of “CHAT” was reshaped into a four-part vocal stack. They also contributed to choreography arrangement, visual references, fashion ideas and the wider world surrounding the release.
That does not mean every choice is theirs or that a major-label system suddenly became a democracy. The members were more specific than that. They described an ongoing conversation with the companies, with both sides proposing ideas and negotiating what survives. That distinction matters because “creative control” is often used as a shiny slogan when the artist merely picked between two pre-approved outfits. GIRLSET has started naming the actual work: writing sessions, harmony construction, choreography notes, logo design, language versions and visual development.
The singles show the transition in stages. Savanna called “Commas” the bridge out of the VCHA chapter. “Little Miss” pushed more of the quartet’s personality forward. “Tweak” moved into throwback R&B memory while Camila and Savanna helped write its Spanish version. “CHAT” is the loudest statement so far because its subject and production process match: a song about people trying to define the group, altered by the members so it sounds more like the people being discussed.
The quartet is also careful about pacing. Their forthcoming album has been treated as a slow reveal instead of a rushed identity dump. The members have said they want room to explore without losing a recognizable center. An unreleased self-written song performed at a March radio event, commonly called “5 Seconds of Fame,” points toward more personal material about celebrity, relationships and how quickly public attention changes. CVM Sekai is not treating that song as an official release until the group does, but it is useful evidence of where their writing interests are moving.
The friendship is not decorative here either. All four lived through the same stalled VCHA period, but they did not experience it from the outside in exactly the same way. In interviews they describe one another as the people who understand the parts their families cannot fully share. That common history helps explain why the reset feels coordinated rather than four solo brands temporarily standing in the same frame. GIRLSET is still a label project, but it is increasingly a project with the members inside the control room.

History: two names, one very public growing-up period
A2K and VCHA
JYP Entertainment and Republic Records created the group through the 2023 competition series A2K (“America2Korea”). The original six-member VCHA lineup was Lexi, Camila, Kendall, Savanna, KG, and Kaylee. Their pre-debut EP SeVit (New Light) arrived September 22, 2023 with “Y.O.Universe,” followed by official debut single “Girls of the Year” on January 26, 2024. They also opened selected dates on TWICE’s Ready to Be tour—an enormous room to learn in before the group had even settled into itself.
The long pause and the reset
Kaylee began a health hiatus in March 2024 and later left the group and company through a mutual contract termination announced in July 2025. KG said she decided to leave in May 2024 and filed a lawsuit against JYP USA in December 2024 alleging mistreatment, abuse, and violations involving young performers. JYP disputed her claims, calling them false or exaggerated. The dispute was settled in August 2025, and KG separated from the company. Those are allegations and responses—not permission for fandom telephone to turn either side into invented fact.
The remaining four members were introduced as GIRLSET on August 7, 2025. The name is meant to signal a group setting its own path without a fixed boundary. “Commas” followed on August 29, and it sounded like a transition on purpose: less glossy introduction, more insistence that the next sentence belonged to them.

LOCKETS: the fandom file
LOCKETS is the official fandom name. The idea is access and closeness: fans are the ones trusted with the key to the members’ hearts, while the locket itself keeps something meaningful close. Kendall designed the fandom logo, which is exactly the kind of member-made detail this era needs more of. It turns “fandom branding” into something one of the girls actually touched.
The complicated part, without turning it into sport
The VCHA-to-GIRLSET history is real context, not decorative “tea.” Two original members left under very different circumstances; one departure involved a public lawsuit and disputed claims. The cleanest way to follow it is by dates, direct statements, and court reporting—not edited clips that announce a villain before the source has finished loading.
What is fair to say: the four current members returned with more visible creative involvement and a more self-aware image. “CHAT” does not erase what happened. It shows a group that understands the audience is watching the recovery as closely as the comeback.

The four current members
What the rebrand actually changed
GIRLSET launched publicly on August 7, 2025 with the four continuing VCHA members: Lexi, Camila, Kendall and Savanna. “Commas” arrived August 29. The name change did not erase A2K, the VCHA catalog, KG’s lawsuit and departure, Kaylee’s hiatus and departure, or the long stretch when the remaining members could not explain the project’s future. It created a current identity after those facts.
The strongest evidence of change is not typography. It is the quartet’s more visible role in harmonies, choreography ideas, writing rooms and visual development. Kendall’s GIRLSET logo and LOCKETS fandom mark are named contributions. Camila and Savanna’s Spanish-language work and the group’s discussion of reshaping the “CHAT” chorus make the current chapter more specific than a generic “creative freedom” press line.
The sound in four steps
“Commas” is the hard reset: compact, percussive and determined to break from VCHA’s brighter introduction. “Little Miss” makes the four personalities easier to hear. “Tweak” flips the emotional memory of SWV’s “Weak” into a boundary-setting record. “CHAT” turns the public conversation around the group into hyperpop staging and asks who controls the frame.
The shared weakness is duration. GIRLSET frequently reaches the point where a bridge, member exchange or instrumental change could complicate the idea, then the streaming clock closes the door. Concision gives the hooks replay value. It also makes a four-member group feel as if it received four introductions and no final conversation.
VCHA belongs in the archive
The original six-member lineup formed through A2K and released SeVit (New Light), “Ready for the World,” “Girls of the Year,” “Only One” and “Favorite Girl.” GIRLSET’s four members participated in that work, so those credits remain part of their profiles. The departures of KG and Kaylee must be stated with dates and sources, not flattened into a fandom morality play or erased to make the rebrand cleaner.
A responsible page can hold two thoughts: the current quartet deserves an identity that is not permanently reduced to the dispute, and the dispute remains relevant to how JYP USA managed young performers. GIRLSET should be allowed to build forward without requiring readers to develop amnesia.

VCHA: the original six-member chapter
Before GIRLSET, the project was VCHA: Lexi, Camila, Kendall, Savanna, KG and Kaylee. JYP Entertainment and Republic Records formed the lineup through A2K in September 2023. That name and six-person credit remain attached to the recordings released before the 2025 transition.
This hub keeps VCHA and GIRLSET together because four continuing members did not become four unrelated people when the branding changed. It also refuses the opposite error: current GIRLSET work is not silently credited to KG or Kaylee merely because both former members helped establish the earlier catalog.
Y.O.Universe and the end of ranking
“Y.O.Universe” arrived with the A2K finale as a pre-debut release. Its message treats difference as a source of value, giving six trainees a first public group identity after weeks of evaluation language. The exact playlist MV includes all six and now has a full Iconic-by-Mistake React.
Pre-debut does not mean disposable. This video is the point where the public archive changes from contestants to VCHA members, so its cards route to Lexi, Camila, Kendall, Savanna, KG Crown and Kaylee.
Girls of the Year: formal debut
VCHA formally debuted January 26, 2024 with “Girls of the Year.” The MV connects stage arrival to the younger selves who first imagined it, turning a giant title into a reflection on distance traveled. All six members appear.
The release remains a VCHA artifact even though the official artist channel was later converted to GIRLSET. Channel ownership, catalog distribution and group credit are related but not identical facts. Exact IDs prevent a current label from rewriting the name printed on the work.
Only One and the hiatus boundary
“Only One” was released March 15, 2024 with a six-member performance video filmed before Kaylee’s health-related hiatus altered live schedules. Kaylee appears in the playlist file. Later stages proceeded with five and reportedly preserved space in the formation with a possible return in mind.
Those are two legitimate versions with different participant maps. This archive credits six on the MV and does not use its footage to claim Kaylee performed on the later five-member schedules.
KG’s departure and dispute record
In December 2024, KG publicly announced that she was leaving and had filed to end her contract, making allegations about treatment and working conditions. JYP USA disputed parts of her account. The hub attributes both positions instead of converting a contested employment dispute into anonymous “personal reasons.”
In August 2025, JYP America announced a mutual agreement ending KG Crown’s VCHA contract. The resolution language does not reveal private settlement terms or create a court finding. Her VCHA contributions and current former-member status both remain visible on one canonical profile.
Kaylee’s departure
Kaylee’s March 2024 pause was announced as health-related. No diagnosis belongs in this hub. In July 2025, she and JYP America announced that they had mutually agreed to part ways as she concluded her VCHA journey.
Her message thanked the company and fans and referred to exploring new creative paths. That supports an open future, not an invented solo-debut date. The archive watches for confirmed work without turning a former minor idol’s privacy into a content gap that rumors may fill.
Why GIRLSET begins with four
JYP introduced GIRLSET in August 2025 with Lexi, Camila, Kendall and Savanna. The company described the new name as setting their own path and targeting the global market without restrictions. “Commas” opened the rebrand’s release chapter, followed by later work including “Little Miss.”
The current lineup is four. This page uses that current fact in its opening and member directory while preserving six-member VCHA cards in the historical shelves below. Current status and historical credit do not compete when every statement carries a date.
Exact-video archive rules
Each VCHA playlist upload has its own React, official player, local source frame, metadata and static card. “Y.O.Universe,” “Girls of the Year” and “Only One” cannot share one generic review because pre-debut narrative, formal-debut cinema and performance-video evidence answer different questions.

International discovery without revisionism
Fans arriving through GIRLSET should be able to find VCHA work without being told the group appeared from nowhere in August 2025. Fans arriving through VCHA should be able to see the current four-member name without assuming an unchanged six-person lineup.
The route is intentionally two-way: current profiles point backward to exact six-member videos; the archive points forward to GIRLSET releases; KG and Kaylee pages preserve former-member work without receiving new four-member cards.

The rebrand makes the most sense when treated as an honest structural break, not a cosmetic search-and-replace. Four members needed a current identity after a difficult silence, while two former members still deserved accurate credit for the work audiences already watched.
A good archive does not choose between continuity and rupture. It identifies exactly what continued—four artists, training history and some infrastructure—and exactly what changed: the name, lineup, public tone and release chapter.
