Evangelion Rebuild Continuity

Four films restart familiar images, change relationships and institutions, and eventually build an ending that cannot be reduced to a polished replay of the television series.

The four-film route

Watch the Rebuild films in release order. Each review examines what the film changes, what it withholds, and how adaptation becomes part of the story rather than a continuity error.

The branch keeps its own character designs, performance context, politics, and ending. Compare it with the original continuity after each work has been allowed to finish its own argument.

Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone rebuilds the opening six episodes into a cinematic argument about coercion, isolation, national labor, and a continuity already changing beneath Shinji.
Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance breaks the remake route through Asuka, Mari, Rei, Eva-03, Zeruel, Near Third Impact, and Shinji’s dangerous belief that love can overpower a system.
Evangelion 3.0 wakes Shinji fourteen years late and turns WILLE, Kaworu, the spears, and Fourth Impact into a brutal argument about shame, secrecy, and the fantasy of undoing harm.
Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time closes the Rebuild continuity through Village Three, Gendo’s confession, the Anti-Universe, and Shinji’s final choice.

Rebuild begins with recognizable material but changes pacing, design, relationships, institutional power, and eventually the meaning of departure. The four reviews stay separate so later revelations do not flatten the experience of each release.

Watch in release order. Compare to the original continuity afterward, when both branches have been allowed to establish what they think healing, adulthood, and ending a cycle require.

Each film keeps its own canonical image, review, and release-order position.

Branch labels remain visible throughout the hub.
