Bottom line

Boruto Episode 64 finally puts father and son in the same place with no office door, birthday cake, Chūnin Exam, or crowd between them. Naruto is tied to a God Tree while Momoshiki drains Kurama's chakra. Boruto arrives with Sasuke and the four visiting Kage, helps free his father, and gets the honest conversation both Uzumaki boys have avoided all arc.

“Rescuing Naruto!” also remembers that the Kage came to fight. Chōjūrō and Kurotsuchi trap Kinshiki through a brutal coordinated gamble. Gaara creates footing in midair. Darui chases Momoshiki hard enough to make an alien god retreat. Boruto contributes the warning about Momoshiki's absorption, but the adults carry the battle. Then Momoshiki turns Kinshiki into a chakra fruit and eats him. Family reconciliation lasts about five minutes before generational trauma becomes literal cannibalism.

Quick reaction

The father-son conversation is simple, awkward, and exactly right. Naruto admits he failed to understand Boruto. Boruto admits he was not trying to understand Naruto either. Neither gives a perfect speech. These are two emotionally constipated blondes sitting beneath an alien tree after one of them cheated on live television.

The fight around them is a strong appetizer for Episode 65. The other Kage look capable, Sasuke looks prepared, and Momoshiki's arrogance keeps cracking whenever shinobi cooperate without feeding him ninjutsu.

Mitsuki wakes up without his team

Mitsuki regains consciousness in the hospital after Urashiki attacked him and stole his chakra. He remembers wanting to protect Boruto but being physically unable to join the fight.

Sarada explains what happened after he went down. That scene gives the rescue mission a cost outside the flashy dimension. Team 7 is split. Boruto left with Sasuke. Mitsuki is injured. Sarada is carrying information while waiting for everybody to return.

Mitsuki nearly revealed Sage Mode during the exams for Boruto. Now Boruto is facing another Ōtsutsuki without him. The quiet frustration on Mitsuki's side matters even if the episode cannot stay there long.

Momoshiki is draining Naruto like a battery

In the Ōtsutsuki dimension, Naruto hangs restrained against the God Tree while Momoshiki extracts Kurama's chakra. The process is slow because Naruto contains an absurd amount of power.

Momoshiki treats him as raw material. He does not care about Naruto as Hokage, father, or person. Kurama is energy to harvest, package, and consume.

Naruto has spent his life fighting people who saw jinchūriki that way. Akatsuki hunted tailed beasts. Villages treated hosts as weapons. Becoming Hokage did not end the threat of being reduced to what lives inside him.

Killer B's chakra built the tree

Kinshiki explains that the God Tree grew from chakra taken from another tailed-beast host. Naruto realizes they mean Killer B.

The detail connects this rescue to Momoshiki's earlier attack in Kumogakure. B's apparent fate hangs over the scene, and Naruto understands that he may be next in a chain of harvested jinchūriki.

We later learn B survived through a tentacle substitution because Killer B remains impossible to eliminate with ordinary narrative logic. Episode 64 does not offer that comfort yet.

Naruto finally thinks from Boruto's side

While trapped, Naruto reflects on his son. He recognizes that Boruto's anger was not simple disrespect. Naruto demanded understanding of the Hokage's burden without giving Boruto enough time, honesty, or presence to understand the father carrying that burden.

That realization does not make the cheating acceptable. Naruto can condemn the choice and still admit that the family conditions around the choice were partly his responsibility.

The scene matters because Naruto stops treating Boruto's behavior as a problem to correct from above. He becomes curious about the need underneath.

Shikadai waits in Konoha and worries

Back home, Shikadai asks whether reinforcements should be sent. His concern is not abstract. Boruto went into another dimension with the Kage shortly after their friendship was damaged by the cheating reveal.

Shikamaru recognizes the feeling. He has spent his life worrying about Naruto rushing toward danger, and now his son is doing the same thing for Boruto.

The shogi comparison connects generations without forcing Shikadai to become a copy of his father. Both Nara boys complain. Both show up. Both care much more than their tone admits.

Sasuke opens the road to Naruto

Sasuke leads Boruto, Gaara, Darui, Chōjūrō, and Kurotsuchi through his space-time portal. The rescue team crosses dimensions with one goal: bring the Seventh Hokage home.

Boruto wears Sasuke's old headband. The scratched Leaf symbol once represented Sasuke severing ties. On Boruto, the same object represents a promise to act like a shinobi after disgrace.

Sasuke is not bringing Boruto because the child equals the Kage. He is bringing the one person whose presence may reach Naruto and whose Vanishing Rasengan offers an unexpected tactical option.

The arrival interrupts Momoshiki's extraction

The rescue team lands before Momoshiki can finish draining Naruto. Sasuke and Boruto move toward the restraints while the Kage engage the Ōtsutsuki pair.

That division is smart. Boruto's priority is not proving himself in combat. He came for his father. The strongest available leaders create the space.

The scene also reverses the arena. Naruto previously stood between Momoshiki's attack and Boruto. Now Boruto crosses dimensions to stand in front of Naruto. The relationship becomes reciprocal without pretending their abilities are equal.

Sasuke calls Boruto a shinobi

Naruto notices Boruto wearing Sasuke's headband and jacket. Sasuke tells him that many things happened, but Boruto has become a shinobi.

That statement carries more weight than any exam promotion. Boruto was disqualified publicly. Sasuke still recognizes the courage, honesty, and choice that followed.

Being a shinobi is not a rank handed back because Boruto joined a rescue. Sasuke is naming a direction. Boruto finally chose to enter danger without a hidden tool promising applause.

Naruto and Boruto apologize without competing

Naruto admits he should have tried harder to understand Boruto. Boruto admits he should have tried to understand Naruto. The conversation does not decide who suffered more.

Naruto's work matters. Boruto's loneliness matters. Naruto saved the village during the arena attack. He also missed birthdays and used a shadow clone at home. Boruto cheated. He also spent years wanting an actual father instead of a monument.

Their apologies work because both truths remain visible. Reconciliation is not a courtroom verdict. The point is that they finally stop arguing with imaginary versions of each other.

Boruto asks about Naruto's past

Boruto wants to know the person Naruto was before becoming Hokage. He has lived under the finished legend without understanding the lonely child, terrible student, loud prankster, and stubborn genin underneath.

Naruto tells him they can talk after they return. That promise is small and enormous. Boruto is no longer asking why the Hokage disappoints him. He is asking who his father is.

Naruto has spent the entire franchise begging people to see him. His son is finally ready to look.

Chōjūrō lets Kinshiki hit him

Sasuke engages Kinshiki, but the Mizukage and Tsuchikage create the capture. Chōjūrō deliberately accepts a hit so Kurotsuchi can attack from concealment.

The gamble is vicious. Chōjūrō uses his own body to control Kinshiki's position, trusting Kurotsuchi to convert the opening. She launches Kinshiki into Sasuke's path, and the three fighters keep pressure stacked.

This is why I refuse to call the other Kage useless. They are fighting an Ōtsutsuki with tactics, timing, and ugly commitment. Chōjūrō looks soft until he decides getting impaled is part of the plan.

Kurotsuchi and Chōjūrō seal Kinshiki

Once Kinshiki is off balance, Kurotsuchi uses Lava Release Quicklime Congealing Technique. Chōjūrō adds Water Release, hardening the material around him.

The combination traps a physical powerhouse through chemistry rather than a bigger explosion. Earth and water turn into restraint. Sasuke's pressure keeps Kinshiki from breaking the setup early.

Their success creates the crisis that ends the episode. Momoshiki sees his guardian captured and decides Kinshiki's remaining value is consumable.

Gaara gives everyone a road through the sky

Momoshiki stays airborne to maintain distance. Gaara sends sand platforms beneath the pursuing Kage, creating footing where none exists.

The support looks less glamorous than a finishing blow, but every attack depends on Gaara's platform. He controls terrain in a dimension that offers the shinobi no familiar advantage.

That is Kage-level teamwork. He does not need to own the strike. He makes sure Darui can reach the target.

Darui makes Momoshiki run

Darui pursues Momoshiki across Gaara's sand and keeps him under physical pressure. The Raikage avoids feeding ninjutsu into the absorbing palms.

Momoshiki came to Konoha treating shinobi as inferior beings addicted to borrowed power. Now one Kage is chasing him while another builds the road.

Darui's offense is direct, fast, and disciplined. The sequence gives him a better showing than the exam ceremony suggested he would receive.

Boruto warns Naruto about absorption

Boruto tells Naruto that Momoshiki can absorb ninjutsu and return the attack with amplified force. The warning is useful because Boruto watched the ability destroy the arena.

This is a genuine contribution built from experience. Boruto is not the strongest person present. He knows something the rescued fighter needs immediately.

Naruto listens. That detail matters as much as the information. Father and son have spent the arc talking past one another. On the battlefield, Naruto accepts Boruto's read without dismissing him as a child.

Momoshiki insults Naruto's inheritance

Momoshiki examines Boruto with the Byakugan and mocks Naruto for failing to pass his power to his son. He assumes inheritance means direct transfer, consumption, and immediate possession.

Naruto's real legacy is already present. Boruto learned shadow clones, created a Vanishing Rasengan, inherited stubbornness, and chose to rescue him. None of that requires swallowing Naruto's chakra like a pill.

Momoshiki cannot recognize growth because his clan skips growth. They harvest the result.

Kinshiki accepts becoming fruit

With Kinshiki restrained, Momoshiki transforms him into a chakra fruit. Kinshiki voices willingness, invoking the way their clan passes power forward.

Consent inside a hierarchy built on consumption is complicated, but the emotional horror remains clear. Kinshiki disappears as a person. Momoshiki eats the concentrated result.

The act is a dark mirror of every parent-child inheritance story in Naruto. No teaching. No relationship after transfer. The older generation becomes fuel and vanishes.

Momoshiki's transformation ends the reunion

Sasuke tries to strike before Momoshiki can finish, but the fruit is consumed. Momoshiki emerges transformed with a third Rinnegan and tells Naruto he is next.

The rescue succeeded. Naruto is free. Father and son finally understand one another. Then the enemy grows stronger by consuming his own companion.

Episode 64 closes by placing two models of family and legacy opposite each other. Naruto and Boruto repair through conversation. Momoshiki and Kinshiki reproduce power through erasure.

The episode gives the other Kage their flowers

Episode 65 belongs to Naruto and Sasuke. Episode 64 makes sure the four visiting Kage earn the transition. Gaara, Darui, Chōjūrō, and Kurotsuchi function as a team across village lines.

Their alliance is the adult version of what the Chūnin Exams were supposed to celebrate. The tournament collapsed. The relationships behind the ceremony hold.

Seeing Kage cooperate also teaches Boruto something the exam could not: leadership is less about standing above everyone and more about trusting people with different strengths.

Replay notes

Watch Naruto before the rescue party arrives. His reflections on Boruto begin while he believes he may die, which strips away the defensive posture he carried at home.

Watch Sasuke during the father-son conversation. He gives them space while remaining alert. His mentorship includes knowing when not to speak.

Watch the Kage battle as a chain rather than separate attacks. Gaara creates movement, Darui applies pressure, Chōjūrō accepts damage, Kurotsuchi controls Kinshiki, and Sasuke closes gaps.

Finally, watch Momoshiki's face when cooperation works. He understands consumption. Mutual reliance keeps offending him.

What worked

The Naruto and Boruto apology lands because neither person receives total absolution. Their promise to discuss Naruto's past gives the relationship somewhere to go after the crisis.

The Kage action is tactical and character-specific. Chōjūrō and Kurotsuchi trapping Kinshiki is especially satisfying. Boruto's absorption warning gives him a credible role without pretending he belongs on the front line.

Kinshiki's consumption provides a sharp thematic cliffhanger. Episode 65 begins with the physical consequence, but Episode 64 establishes the emotional contrast.

What did not work

Mitsuki and Sarada disappear after the hospital opening even though Team 7 has just fractured during the biggest crisis of their lives. Their perspective deserves more space.

Boruto joining a cross-dimensional mission remains a wild adult decision. Sasuke has tactical reasons, but a recently disqualified genin traveling to fight Ōtsutsuki enemies should receive more than one determined look as approval.

The father-son repair arrives quickly after years of resentment. The scene works because both boys are sincere, but the real test must happen at home where no alien invasion forces honesty.

Naruto and Boruto finally stop arguing with imagined versions of each other

Boruto has spent years fighting the Hokage rather than speaking to Naruto. In his mind, the office swallowed his father and left a shadow clone at the dinner table. Naruto has spent the same years seeing a talented son who cannot understand why the village needs him. Both descriptions contain truth. Neither description contains the whole person.

The rescue strips away their usual defenses. Naruto cannot hide inside work because Momoshiki has chained him to a divine tree. Boruto cannot perform indifference because he crossed dimensions to bring his father home. No desk, birthday cake, exam crowd, or press camera stands between them.

Naruto apologizes first. That choice matters. Adults love demanding that children understand adult burdens while treating a child’s pain as evidence of immaturity. Naruto finally admits that Boruto had a right to need him. The village’s safety explains missed time. The explanation does not erase the missed birthdays, broken promises, or humiliation of discovering another shadow clone.

Boruto apologizes without pretending the cheating came from nowhere. He wanted Naruto’s attention, but wanting attention never made deception fair. The Scientific Ninja Tool let him manufacture a version of himself impressive enough to force his father to look. Naruto looked, then had to remove the headband in front of everybody. Both actions hurt because their relationship had already become a public argument.

Sasuke makes the conversation possible by treating Boruto as capable of hearing the truth. He brings the boy into danger, explains Naruto’s past, and refuses to reduce Boruto to the cheating scandal. Calling Boruto a shinobi does not excuse what happened. Sasuke recognizes the choice Boruto makes after failure.

Boruto asking about Naruto’s childhood signals a deeper change than any apology. He has known the legend while barely knowing the lonely boy underneath. Naruto grew up without parents, chased acknowledgment from a village that feared him, and learned to turn rejection into connection. Boruto grew up loved, then experienced his father’s absence as the village claimed more of Naruto’s time. Their pain is different. The difference does not make either child imaginary.

Naruto also begins listening to Boruto as a shinobi. When Boruto warns him about Momoshiki’s absorption, Naruto accepts the information. That small tactical exchange repairs something important. Boruto wanted recognition of his ability. Naruto gives recognition through trust rather than applause.

The Five Kage fight like leadership is a team assignment

The rescue gives every Kage a purpose. Gaara creates movement through the air and keeps the battlefield connected. Darui drives Momoshiki backward with relentless pressure. Chōjūrō accepts a brutal hit to create Kinshiki’s opening. Kurotsuchi turns that opening into restraint. Naruto and Sasuke handle the impossible center without making everybody else decorative.

That balance matters after a franchise history dominated by Konoha. The other villages arrive because Naruto built relationships across old hatred. Their cooperation is not a favor to one famous Hokage. Momoshiki threatens the entire world, so leaders share risk instead of waiting for the Leaf to solve everything.

Boruto watches leadership in motion. No speech announces the lesson. The Kage communicate, cover gaps, and trust specialists. Naruto’s strength matters, but strength becomes useful through coordination. Boruto has spent the Exams chasing individual proof. The rescue shows him a victory assembled from multiple people doing different jobs.

Momoshiki offers the opposite model. He sees Kinshiki as stored power waiting for consumption. Kinshiki accepts that role because their hierarchy has trained him to treat erasure as duty. The transformation may produce greater force, but the partnership ends with one person literally absorbed.

Naruto’s inheritance works differently. Jiraiya, Minato, Kushina, Iruka, Kakashi, Sasuke, and countless others shaped him. Their influence remains visible. Naruto does not become strong by deleting the people who helped him. He carries their lessons while allowing each bond to keep a name.

Boruto begins learning that difference during the rescue. Accepting Sasuke’s help does not make him less capable. Listening to Naruto’s history does not make his own pain disappear. Joining a battle led by adults does not reduce him to cargo when he contributes knowledge nobody else has.

The episode ends by placing both inheritances beside each other. Naruto and Boruto choose apology, curiosity, and shared action. Momoshiki chooses consumption. One relationship grows because father and son remain separate enough to hear each other. The other becomes stronger by ensuring only one voice survives.

RaeRae verdict

“Rescuing Naruto!” gives Boruto what he wanted long before the Chūnin Exams: a real conversation with his father. Naruto apologizes. Boruto apologizes. Neither one hides behind the Hokage title or the cheating scandal. They finally meet as two stubborn people who love each other and have been terrible at showing that love.

The rescue battle makes that emotional turn stronger. Boruto sees leadership through the Five Kage working together. Naruto listens when his son warns him about Momoshiki. Sasuke trusts Boruto enough to bring him and protects the space where father and son reconnect.

Then Momoshiki eats Kinshiki, because Boruto never lets a family moment stay uncomplicated. The episode ends with Naruto and Boruto choosing understanding while the Ōtsutsuki choose consumption. One kind of inheritance keeps both people visible. The other leaves only power behind. Guess which family I am rooting for.
