1. Before the idol machinery
Bang Yedam entered Korean television before most people his age had figured out what haircut they wanted. He competed on SBS’s K-pop Star 2 in 2012 and 2013, finishing as runner-up at eleven years old. That matters because his public identity was built around his voice long before he had a group position, official color, or light stick.
YG Entertainment signed him in June 2013. Then came the long trainee stretch. He became the company trainee everybody knew without technically being a debuted artist, which is a glamorous way of saying a child spent years being evaluated in public and private while strangers waited for the company to decide what to do with him.
2. YG Treasure Box and TREASURE
Yedam appeared on YG Treasure Box in 2018 and 2019 and earned a place in the debut lineup. Before the group formally debuted, he released the solo single “Wayo” on June 5, 2020. The song showed why YG had held onto him for so long: his voice already carried the bruised, slightly grainy R&B tone that usually takes singers years to stop imitating and actually own.
TREASURE debuted on August 7, 2020. Yedam served as one of the group’s central vocal colors while also writing and composing. His credits include work on “Darari,” the sleeper hit that escaped the fandom, ran wild on TikTok, and reminded everybody that one good melodic idea can outperform an entire marketing meeting.
In May 2022, YG announced that Yedam would pause group activities to study music and strengthen his producing ability. On November 8, 2022, the company announced that he and Mashiho had ended their contracts and left TREASURE. The official explanation centered on his desire to pursue production. Fans argued, mourned, blamed the company, blamed him, and then kept listening for his voice anyway.
Why he left
When he finally discussed the decision during his solo debut era, Yedam did not pretend leaving was painless. He said he had been scared of separating from YG and TREASURE, but his desire to create his own music had grown. That answer is less dramatic than the theories and more believable. Some idols want a larger share of the song, not only a larger share of the camera.
The move also came with risk. TREASURE had an established fandom and YG’s machinery behind it. A solo singer-songwriter at a smaller company has more control and far fewer automatic headlines. Yedam chose the harder lane because it was his lane.
3. Solo career
Yedam signed with GF Entertainment in August 2023 as both a solo artist and producer. His first mini album, Only One, arrived on November 23, 2023 after the pre-release “Miss You.” He wrote and produced across the record, making the debut feel like an answer to the question hanging over his departure: yes, he actually wanted to build the music.
The 2024 EP GOOD ViBES broadened that sound with “O-HE,” “Lovey,” “We Good,” “T.M.B,” “Unlovable,” and “Fallin’.” “We Good” is especially revealing. It is loose, flirtatious R&B made by somebody more interested in the pocket than proving he can hit a high note. The later special video gave the sleeper track its own little coastal movie.
He also collaborated with Winter of aespa on “Officially Cool,” a clean pop duet about people acting relaxed after a breakup while obviously monitoring each other. His catalog has continued to stretch through OSTs, collaborations, and the DIMO REX persona. By 2026, he had released the seven-track album Intoxicated, adding another chapter to a career that refuses to stay inside the neat former-idol box.
4. DIMO REX
DIMO REX is not a secret identity with a convincing disguise. It is a separate creative name Yedam began using in 2025 for material that leans further into production and experimentation. The split gives him room to release music without forcing every idea through the polished Bang Yedam soloist brand.
That is the interesting part of his career now. He is not trying to erase the idol years. He is building enough rooms that they stop being the whole house.
Voice and musical identity
Yedam’s strength is not simply range. His voice has a soft rasp and emotional pressure that makes even a smooth line sound slightly unfinished. He can belt, but he is usually better when he lets the note fray around the edge. His production follows the same instinct. He likes R&B grooves, conversational melodies, and hooks that sound casual until they refuse to leave.
He is also a practical songwriter. “Darari” worked because the melody was immediate. “Wayo” worked because the vocal ache arrived before the listener needed context. “We Good” works because the rhythm understands flirting better than a paragraph does.

Fandom notes
- BY:D is the official fandom name.
- Longtime fans may have followed him through K-pop Star 2, YG trainee clips, Treasure Box, TREASURE, and his solo career. That is several fandom lifetimes before age twenty-five.
- His former-member status is part of his history, not a permanent subtitle. He is a solo artist and producer now.
- The recurring fan debate is predictable: some miss his TREASURE vocals, some prefer the creative freedom, and many quietly do both.
