It does explain why fans no longer experience the hiatus as a small pause between schedules.

Star News Korea published the Korean report on February 21, while Korea JoongAng Daily reported that the group would continue its scheduled activities.
April 3 · The Instagram bio becomes a headline. Maeil Business Newspaper’s Star Today reported that “KATSEYE” had disappeared from Manon’s Instagram profile. The article treated it as the trigger for renewed exit rumors,not proof that an exit had occurred,and noted her statement that she was having positive conversations with the company.
April 10 · “PINKY UP” begins the public five-member era. Korea JoongAng Daily reported the release and explicitly noted that Manon would not join the group at Coachella because of the hiatus.
April 11-12 · Coachella makes five impossible to ignore. Star News Korea described the festival performance as a five-member stage. Korea JoongAng Daily did the same while still calling KATSEYE a six-member group and identifying Manon as on hiatus. That contradiction is basically the entire story in miniature.
July 25 · Where the receipts stop. The official notice remains a temporary-hiatus notice. The performance reality remains five. Korean reporting has documented the gap between those two facts, but the sources cited here do not provide a permanent-departure announcement.
My actual read on it
I do not think fans are being dramatic for feeling that something has changed. Pop groups communicate through formation as much as they communicate through statements. If five people record the song, shoot the video, walk the carpet, rehearse the camera blocking, and perform the major festival slot, the audience is going to start reading five as a sentence. That is not conspiracy brain. That is literally watching the product placed in front of us.
But I also refuse to jump from this feels permanent to I know what happened behind closed doors. Removing a group name from a bio is meaningful because artists know fans will notice it. It can signal distance, frustration, a personal reset, negotiation, or nothing we have correctly guessed yet. The Korean reports were useful because they did not magically turn that clue into a signed resignation letter. They documented the clue, documented the official wording, and left the gap visible.
The part that bothers me is how companies love soft language when hard uncertainty would be more honest. “When the time is right” sounds comforting, but it gives fans no idea whether the conversation is about recovery, a future return, changing terms, or an ending nobody is ready to announce. Then the group keeps moving, the choreography gets rebuilt, and everyone is expected to pretend the shape of KATSEYE has not changed because the noun hiatus is still technically sitting in the press release.
So my verdict is irritatingly in the middle: KATSEYE is officially six and operationally five. Manon’s permanent departure is not confirmed. The possibility that this has become more complicated than a straightforward health break is reasonable to discuss, especially after the bio change and months of five-member activity. What is not reasonable is assigning villains, diagnoses, or secret motives to six women because the company left a vacuum and fandom immediately furnished it with a sectional sofa.
