Early life and training

Ryujin was scouted by JYP Entertainment at a GOT7 fan meeting and trained for several years. Before ITZY, she appeared in BTS’s Love Yourself highlight reel and competed on YG Entertainment’s survival show MIXNINE, finishing first among the female contestants.

MIXNINE made her a known trainee and confirmed something the later ITZY years would repeat: she can carry attention without overfilling the frame. Other agencies reportedly showed interest, but she remained with JYP for the group that became ITZY.

Road to ITZY

Ryujin debuted as a central rapper and dancer. “DALLA DALLA” introduced the attitude; “WANNABE” made her globally recognizable through the shoulder dance. The moment became so famous that it can obscure the performer underneath, but it worked because her isolation control and expression made a strange movement look inevitable.
