Ruyi Jingu Bang (如意金箍棒)
Ruyi Jingu Bang is the divine weapon that knew it was destined for greatness long before Sun Wu Kong ever set foot in the Dragon Palace. The staff began its life as a cosmic stabilizer used to measure the oceans and keep the tides under control, which is the kind of responsible job description that would bore Wu Kong half to death. Fate had other plans. The moment the Monkey King arrived, the staff saw its chance to switch careers from underwater civil engineering to full time chaos entertainment.
Wu Kong did not get this weapon on his first try. Before discovering Ruyi Jingu Bang, he picked up every weapon the Dragon Palace had to offer. He swung halberds, spears, swords, axes, tridents, and at least one oversized ceremonial shovel. None of them survived the encounter. Every weapon bent or snapped or flew out of his hands because they were simply not prepared for the level of nonsense he brings to a battlefield. The Dragon Kings watched in horror as their armory turned into scrap metal while Wu Kong kept asking if they had anything heavier.
Then someone remembered the enormous iron staff sitting in the corner like a bored security guard. When Wu Kong laid his hands on Ruyi Jingu Bang, the staff shrank to match his size, settled into his grip, and practically said, You. Yes you. We are doing this now. It was not chosen by accident. It was chosen by destiny, by attitude, and probably by the universal need for entertainment. From that moment on, they were inseparable.
In its full size, the staff can grow tall enough to poke the sky and heavy enough to flatten mountains. Classical legend lists its weight as 13,500 jin, which is 14,880 pounds or 6,750 kilograms. To everyone except Wu Kong, that number is terrifying. To him, it is Tuesday. He lifts it with one hand while lecturing people about manners. Most immortals cannot move the weapon even an inch. Mortals who try usually end up praying for a chiropractor they have never met.
Then comes the needle form. When Ruyi Jingu Bang shrinks down to the size of a sewing needle, Wu Kong tucks it behind his ear as if it is nothing more than a stylish hair accessory. The staff still weighs 14,880 pounds in that state, which means the only reason his ear does not detach is probably because physics gave up on him long ago. Wu Kong will smile sweetly while pretending to be unarmed, and every guard in Heaven will look away because pretending nothing is happening is sometimes the safest option.
The staff never behaves normally. It has only two moods. Giant and overwhelming or tiny and still overwhelmingly dangerous. There is no middle ground. There is no gentle setting. Ruyi Jingu Bang is loyal to Wu Kong, deeply offended by everyone else, and fully committed to dramatic flair.
RaeRae Remark: This weapon did not just choose Wu Kong. It took one look at his personality, his energy, and his questionable decision making skills and decided that partnering with him would make existence significantly more interesting.
