BIGBANG · solo artist
DAESUNG
Kang Dae-sung · 강대성 / 대성
Vocalist, performer, solo artist, and one-third of BIGBANG’s current 20th-anniversary lineup.

Before debut
Kang Dae-sung joined YG Entertainment as a trainee and debuted with BIGBANG in 2006 despite facing early criticism about not matching the era’s narrow idol-visual expectations. That history matters because his career became a long answer to it: one of the group’s strongest live voices, a beloved variety personality, and a major solo touring artist in Japan.
BIGBANG career
2006–2008 · Debut and breakthrough
DAESUNG debuted in the original five-member BIGBANG lineup. “Lies,” “Last Farewell,” and “Haru Haru” turned the group into a national force and established an unusual balance: individually recognizable members inside songs shaped heavily by G-DRAGON’s writing.
2009–2012 · Individual identity and ALIVE
Solo activity did not weaken the group; it taught audiences what each voice contributed. ALIVE and “Fantastic Baby” pushed BIGBANG into a global touring phase years before K-pop stadium language became routine.
2015–2016 · MADE
“Loser,” “Bae Bae,” “Bang Bang Bang,” “If You,” “Sober,” and “Let’s Not Fall in Love” made the MADE rollout a late-career peak. DAESUNG’s work helped keep the group’s emotional and live-performance center from being swallowed by its image.
2022–2026 · Still Life and the current trio
“Still Life” reflected on separation without promising an ordinary comeback. By 2026, the official performing lineup was G-DRAGON, TAEYANG, and DAESUNG. Coachella led into the XX : COSMOS 20th-anniversary world tour.
Voice and performance
DAESUNG’s voice is large, rough-edged, and immediately human. He can push rock material, open into bright pop, or sing trot without treating the genre like a joke costume. In BIGBANG, his choruses often turn G-DRAGON’s written emotion into something built for arenas. Live, he is the member most likely to make a difficult note sound like an audience invitation instead of an exam.
BIGBANG’s current trio works because the colors are not substitutes: G-DRAGON supplies the unstable written character, TAEYANG brings R&B control, and DAESUNG supplies rock-sized emotional force. Remove one and the arrangement has to change, not merely redistribute seconds.
Solo career
He began Korean solo work with the trot song “Look at Me, Gwisoon,” then built a substantial Japanese career as D-LITE through D’scover, D’slove, Delight, and major tours. Later releases include “Falling Slowly” and the D’s WAVE era. His YouTube interview-variety channel ZIP DAESUNG became a second career engine, reconnecting veteran idols and letting his humor work without a five-person group schedule.
A solo discography is not a side quest here. BIGBANG was built around members developing public musical identities strong enough to survive outside the group. That model influenced later agencies, sometimes usefully and sometimes by turning every member into a rushed brand before the music existed.
Current era
BIGBANG: the 2026–2027 XX : COSMOS tour celebrates twenty years with three current members.
New music: Korean reports say the trio prepared a new song and MV in 2026. Until an official title and release exist, this page does not invent one.
Solo management: D-Lable handles DAESUNG’s solo work; YG is supporting the group anniversary project.
Tea and context
DAESUNG left YG for solo management but remained part of BIGBANG. Health concerns involving his voice and throat affected some early-2026 solo scheduling, so current live-performance discussion should distinguish a documented medical problem from lazy claims that he “cannot sing anymore.” His return at Coachella and the anniversary project made stamina and vocal condition a real conversation, not fandom betrayal.
The current-lineup rule is simple: T.O.P is a former member pursuing a separate career, and Seungri is not part of the group. Supporting historical music does not require pretending the 2026 lineup has five people.
RaeRae’s take
DAESUNG has the voice of a man trying to hug the back row and the laugh of somebody who just found the worst possible joke. BIGBANG needs his sincerity. Without it, the group could drown in its own coolness.
The reason this profile exists beside the group hub is not to repeat birthdays. It is to make the next BIGBANG song easier to hear: which voice carries the ache, which one breaks the rhythm, and why the trio cannot be reduced to “G-DRAGON plus two members.”
