Volume 8 opens Maria’s Orphanage. Lai, Fina and Ruu know Syr as family, disciplinarian and dependable adult. The planned Education District outing, the Daedalus tunnel and the wounded barbarian show danger brushing against that life. Allen removes the threat before it reaches the children, tying Syr’s ordinary routine to the Fromel sibling history and Anya’s unexplained fracture.
