Bottom line

Boruto Episode 13 finally names Sumire as the Ghost Incident culprit, and the reveal hurts because the series spent twelve episodes making Class Rep feel like part of the room. Mitsuki tells Boruto the truth with the calm of someone reporting a solved equation. Sai finds the girl behind the attacks. Kakashi confirms that the Gozu Tennō was embedded in her body. Then Sumire summons Nue, and the quiet school mystery becomes a kaiju emergency in the middle of Konoha. The episode gives Kakashi a spectacular return through Purple Electricity, lets Sai confront another wound left by Root, and wisely stops Naruto from feeding Kurama's enormous chakra reserve to a beast designed to absorb power. My favorite tension still belongs to Boruto and Mitsuki. Mitsuki receives an order to eliminate Sumire because the mission reduces her to the hand controlling the bomb. Boruto wants to hear the truth from his friend because he refuses to believe every Class Rep moment was empty. Neither boy fully understands what waits inside Nue's dimension. They only know that Sumire is moving toward an ending chosen by her father, and Boruto will physically fight Mitsuki before allowing that ending to arrive without one more question.

Mitsuki says the name Boruto does not want to hear

Mitsuki explains that the Ghost incidents collected chakra from every possessed victim. The pattern, the sudden pause in attacks, and the remaining clues point to Sumire.

Boruto rejects the answer on instinct. Class Rep worried over their classmates, got hurt during the postal robbery, visited people in the hospital, and looked frightened by the same incidents she created. The contradiction feels impossible because Boruto still thinks one version must cancel the other.

Mitsuki has already accepted that a friendly face can belong to a mission. His own life makes that concept much less shocking.

Senju Park becomes the center of the final attack

A rumble near Senju Park pulls Konoha's attention toward the place where Sumire plans to finish the Gozu Tennō. The park is not a military facility or hidden Root laboratory. Ordinary public space becomes the launch point for a weapon built from years of stolen chakra.

That location fits Sumire's approach. She moved through schools, hospitals, workplaces, and neighborhoods without announcing a battlefield. The Ghost Incident turned daily frustration into fuel until the accumulated danger could no longer hide.

Once the ground shakes, secrecy has reached the end of its usefulness.

Kakashi confirms the weapon is inside Sumire

Naruto, Shikamaru, and Kakashi discuss the investigation and the decisions that allowed the situation to grow. Kakashi reveals that the Gozu Tennō was placed in Sumire's body.

The discovery changes the image of a culprit carrying a tool. Sumire is not standing beside Root's final weapon. Root made her body part of the system.

The revelation also explains why a straightforward arrest cannot end the danger. Restraining Sumire leaves the seal, stored chakra, and Nue connection active. Konoha has to contain a threat whose controls were built into a child.

Sai refuses to let Root hide behind another child

Sai tracks Sumire while thinking about Root's legacy. Nobody in the scene needs to explain why he takes the case personally. Danzō's organization stripped Sai of his name, trained him to suppress emotion, and sent him on missions before he understood friendship outside obedience.

Sumire's father survived Root and carried the ideology into his family. Sai survived Root and chose a different life. Their parallel gives the investigation more weight than a generic security operation.

He resolves not to let the blame fall vaguely on everyone with a Root connection. Specific people made specific choices, and Sumire should not become a convenient curtain pulled over the adults who built her mission.

Sumire hears her father's revenge one more time

Before the attack, Sumire remembers Tanuki Shigaraki's command to avenge Danzō and Root. Her father's voice has occupied the future so completely that destroying Konoha sounds like the only ending with meaning.

The memory does not make Sumire innocent. She selected targets, watched Boruto's movements, and continued gathering chakra after classmates were hurt. The memory explains why she interprets death and obedience as proof of love.

Her father lost his place after the war and made his daughter carry the punishment he wanted to inflict on everyone else.

Sai catches Sumire before the plan can begin quietly

Sai and the Konoha shinobi reach Sumire and try to restrain her. For one moment, the village appears to have stopped the crisis before the weapon arrives.

Sumire activates the Gozu Tennō anyway. The seal opens, the air tears, and Nue enters Konoha at full scale.

The reveal works because the series showed smaller traces first. Viewers saw the shadow around victims, the strange creature during the class summoning exercise, and chakra flowing away after each attack. Episode 13 puts the complete shape above the village.

Nue turns a mystery arc into a kaiju battle

Nue is huge, armored, fast, and covered in features borrowed from several animals. The beast looks less like a natural summon than a nightmare assembled around appetite.

Konoha responds with barriers, earth walls, sealing teams, ink creatures, and veteran shinobi. The scale makes the Academy investigation feel almost ridiculous in retrospect. Boruto and his friends were following clues connected to something that can flatten buildings and drain an army.

The monster is impressive, but the episode never lets spectacle erase the girl who released the beast.

Naruto cannot solve this problem with more chakra

Naruto wants to enter the battle, which makes sense because a giant creature is attacking his village and his son is somewhere near the crisis. Kakashi and Sai recognize the trap.

Nue absorbs chakra. Sending Naruto's immense reserve into direct contact could feed the weapon more power than Sumire gathered through every Ghost victim combined.

The restriction is smart writing. The Seventh Hokage is present, concerned, and physically capable, but the strongest person cannot always use the strongest attack. Boruto's generation has room to act because Naruto's power is exactly what the enemy was designed to exploit.

Kakashi returns with Purple Electricity

Kakashi arrives and cuts through part of Nue's snake-like tail using Purple Electricity. The moment is pure fan service, and I mean that as a compliment.

Losing the Sharingan changed the jutsu Kakashi could safely use. Purple Electricity shows that retirement did not turn him into a museum guide for Naruto's childhood. He adapted, developed another lightning technique, and still reads a battlefield faster than most active shinobi.

The attack also proves Nue can be damaged. Konoha is not helpless. The difficulty lies in hurting the creature without letting the creature absorb enough chakra to complete its purpose.

Sai's ink bird creates the opening

Sai uses an ink bird to distract Nue while Kakashi and the other shinobi raise walls around the beast. The teamwork belongs to people who understand containment, not children improvising alone.

Sai's role stays personal and tactical at once. He pursued Sumire, recognizes Root's fingerprints, and still has to help keep Nue away from the village center.

The ink creature facing a manufactured chimera also creates a lovely visual contrast. One comes from art and controlled chakra. The other comes from stolen chakra and a program that forgot a living creature might develop its own attachments.

Mitsuki receives the order to eliminate Sumire

A white snake delivers Mitsuki's instruction: kill Sumire. The order arrives after Nue appears, so the logic feels brutally simple. Remove the controller and stop the weapon.

Mitsuki does not celebrate the assignment or perform villainous excitement. He accepts the mission because obedience remains one of the clearest structures in his life.

Boruto hears a friend's name. Mitsuki hears an active threat. Their disagreement has been building since Mitsuki first admitted that someone might need to die.

Boruto wants the truth from Sumire herself

Seeing Nue from a distance confirms that the Ghost Incident has reached the point of open disaster. Boruto still decides to find Sumire and ask why.

That choice can look naive. Sumire has already summoned the monster and escaped Sai's restraint. A conversation cannot repair damaged buildings or return stolen chakra.

Boruto is not trying to replace the battle with a gentle chat. He is refusing to let the battle answer every question before Sumire speaks as herself.

Mitsuki leaves a clone to stop Boruto

Mitsuki anticipates Boruto's interference and uses a clone to hold him back. The move shows how well he already understands Boruto.

The clone is not only a tactical obstacle. Mitsuki is separating friendship from mission. One version continues toward Sumire while another manages the classmate who will not accept the order.

Boruto fights through because he has spent the entire arc refusing the role of spectator. He followed the chakra when adults dismissed his eye, organized classmates when formal investigators lacked the pattern, and will not wait now that the culprit has a familiar face.

Sumire drops the Class Rep voice

When Mitsuki reaches Sumire, she no longer sounds like the apologetic girl trying to manage a chaotic classroom. Her posture, voice, and Water Release reveal training she kept hidden.

The change is unsettling because the old performance was convincing. Boruto has to decide whether the hidden fighter proves every earlier interaction was false.

Episode 14 will answer that question more fully, but Episode 13 lets the shock stand. Fans are supposed to feel betrayed alongside him.

Mitsuki and Sumire recognize each other too quickly

Their brief clash carries the speed of two children who were prepared for dangerous work long before the Academy. Mitsuki uses techniques his classmates have barely seen. Sumire responds without hesitation.

Neither person belongs comfortably inside the ordinary student roles surrounding them. The difference is that Mitsuki has started building a life around Boruto, while Sumire believes her school life must be sacrificed to her father's command.

Their fight becomes a contest between two versions of what a created purpose can demand.

Boruto interrupts before either child finishes the mission

Boruto reaches them and places himself inside the conflict. He does not arrive with enough information or strength to dominate the fight. He arrives with refusal.

Mitsuki cannot kill Sumire without going through him. Sumire cannot pretend the Academy meant nothing while Boruto is standing there demanding an answer.

That stubborn interruption is Boruto's contribution before the mysterious eye activates. He creates time for another outcome by making the clean mission answer messy.

Boruto's eye reacts to the dimensional opening

Energy gathers around Boruto's right eye as Nue's space-time connection opens above them. The portal pulls Sumire and Nue away from Konoha, and Boruto follows rather than letting the distance end the confrontation.

The scene deliberately keeps the eye mysterious. Boruto can perceive the opening and becomes entangled with the transition, but Nue's dimensional ability remains central. The episode does not hand Boruto a neat technique name or an instruction manual.

He sees a path nobody else can see and takes that path before knowing where the other side leads.

Mitsuki follows Boruto instead of completing the easy order

Mitsuki enters the dimensional crisis too. He could remain in Konoha and report that Sumire escaped. Instead, Boruto's movement pulls him toward the harder problem.

Their friendship has changed Mitsuki before he can name the change. He still carries the elimination order, yet he follows the boy demanding another answer.

That tension makes Mitsuki more interesting than a loyal sidekick. Boruto does not control him. Mitsuki is choosing which voice deserves attention when mission and attachment collide.

The adults contain the monster while the children chase the cause

Kakashi, Sai, Naruto, and Konoha's shinobi handle the visible disaster. Boruto and Mitsuki pursue Sumire into the hidden space behind the attack.

The split respects both generations. The veterans are not made incompetent so the children can look important. Without their walls, diversions, and analysis, Nue would consume far more chakra and destroy more of the village.

The children matter because the final decision belongs to relationships formed at the Academy, beyond the reach of an official containment team.

Sumire's reveal improves the earlier episodes

Knowing Sumire watched Boruto's ability changes her glances during the Ghost Incident. Her injury, hospital stay, and persistent concern acquire another layer. She was gathering information and also becoming attached to the people her mission required her to use.

Good mystery reveals do more than surprise. They make earlier scenes richer without demanding that every expression was a clue shouted at the camera.

Sumire worked because she seemed genuinely kind. The painful truth is that genuine kindness and terrible choices lived in the same person.

The reveal works because Class Rep became real while Sumire was performing her

Sumire entered the Academy with a role designed to create access, reduce suspicion, and place her near emotionally vulnerable classmates. The pleasant voice, helpful habits, and shy concern served the mission. Repetition created experiences her father never planned.

She worried about Namida and Wasabi. She watched Boruto interfere in other people's pain. She became embarrassed, laughed, and learned the rhythms of a classroom that expected her to return the next day. Those moments do not become false merely because the original purpose was deception.

The contradiction makes the reveal painful instead of clever. Sumire has harmed people and endangered the village. She has also formed genuine attachments capable of challenging the revenge identity. Boruto sees that conflict before he can explain the mechanism.

Sai recognizes Root's method because Root once tried to remove his personhood

Sai finds Sumire as an adult shinobi and as somebody who understands what happens when an organization turns a child into a mission. Root trained him to suppress emotion, accept expendability, and treat orders as identity. Sumire's father carried similar logic into her upbringing.

His intervention can therefore hold accountability and recognition together. Sai does not deny the threat or allow the attack to proceed. He also refuses to let Root disappear behind the child carrying the seal.

The episode uses him as more than historical fan service. Sai is living evidence that training designed to erase choice does not always succeed. His current family, art, friendships, and service exist beyond the role Danzō assigned.

Kakashi identifies the Gozu Tennō because old leadership failures remain active

Kakashi understands enough about Root and forbidden systems to recognize the seal embedded in Sumire. The knowledge connects Konoha's present emergency to choices made under earlier administrations. Peace did not automatically neutralize every experiment, operative, or family shaped by secret policy.

His return through Purple Electricity is exciting because Kakashi remains capable without the Sharingan. The larger leadership moment comes when he evaluates the weapon and prevents the response from making Nue stronger.

The village cannot solve inherited institutional harm through spectacle alone. Kakashi's experience helps contain the consequence. Sai's experience helps understand the child. Both are needed because the threat is technical and human.

Naruto has overwhelming power and still needs restraint

Nue absorbs chakra, which turns Naruto's greatest visible advantage into potential fuel. The Hokage has to lead while holding back the instinct to flood the battlefield with enough power to end the threat quickly.

That limitation is useful for the series. Naruto remains extraordinarily strong, but strength does not replace diagnosis. He protects civilians, coordinates adults, and trusts specialized knowledge instead of treating every emergency like a larger Rasengan problem.

The situation also leaves space for the children closest to Sumire to affect the emotional outcome. Adult power contains Nue. Boruto and Mitsuki pursue the person who controls the mission.

Mitsuki receives an efficient order that ignores the possibility of change

Eliminating Sumire may prevent detonation if the controller and weapon remain linked. The order treats her as a switch inside a security emergency. From a narrow operational frame, speed and certainty appear merciful compared with a village-wide explosion.

Mitsuki can follow that logic because he was trained to value clear objectives. Boruto disrupts the frame by insisting Sumire is still a classmate whose choices may not be complete. The disagreement places thousands of lives beside one child's remaining agency, which makes both positions serious.

The episode avoids resolving the ethics immediately. Mitsuki creates a clone to stop Boruto and advances toward the target. Boruto fights through the obstacle because he believes a question must come before an irreversible answer.

Sumire dropping the Class Rep voice does not reveal a single true self underneath

Her colder voice and direct mission language expose the identity built around revenge. The shift can look like the mask finally falling. The earlier warmth was not only a mask by the time the reveal arrived.

Sumire contains the child trained by her father, the operative controlling Nue, the student who formed friendships, and the frightened person approaching a fatal conclusion. No single tone owns the complete truth.

That complexity keeps redemption from becoming a claim that the villain personality was fake. Sumire made choices as the attacker. She also developed reasons to choose differently. The climax must bring those parts into conflict rather than delete one.

Boruto's eye follows the dimensional opening because the power responds to hidden connection

The strange eye activates around chakra pathways, possession, and spaces ordinary sight cannot interpret. Nue's portal gives Boruto another glimpse of a system larger than the current Academy mystery.

He follows without understanding the destination because Sumire and Mitsuki have already crossed the threshold. The decision is reckless and emotionally consistent. Boruto would rather enter unknown danger than accept an ending decided beyond his reach.

The eye provides access, not mastery. He cannot control the dimension or guarantee a return. His most reliable ability remains the refusal to abandon somebody once he recognizes their pain.

The adults and children divide the crisis according to what each can reach

Naruto, Kakashi, Sai, and the village forces contain the enormous body threatening Konoha. Boruto and Mitsuki enter the space where Sumire's decision is still active. The split does not suggest children should handle every emotional crisis alone. The portal makes adult pursuit impossible in the moment.

The structure gives both generations necessary work. Adults bring experience, scale, evacuation, and technical understanding. Children bring proximity to the classmate whose daily self emerged among them.

The climax becomes new-generation storytelling without disrespecting the old generation. Nobody is made foolish so Boruto can matter. Different relationships create access to different parts of the problem.

Why The Demon Beast Appears works

Episode 13 pays off the Ghost Incident mystery with action, betrayal, and enough unanswered emotion to carry the climax forward. Nue looks terrifying. Kakashi's Purple Electricity deserves every excited fan reaction. Sai's involvement connects the new crisis to a man who survived Root. Naruto has to lead without simply overpowering the enemy.

Boruto and Mitsuki give the episode its heart. One boy believes the mission demands Sumire's death. The other believes the friend behind Class Rep still exists. Both follow her into another dimension to discover which future she will choose.

The monster finally appears, but the episode never forgets that the most dangerous weapon is a grieving child carrying an adult's revenge inside her body.
